I remembered alot of individuals thinking after last yrs draft maybe he would move on. Now we have another draft and he still seems connected to this team.

So Im asking what is everyones opinion? Is he here to bring us the trophy, is he here to finish out a contract , what your opinions. TY

I kinda think he likes South Florida and may keep this gig.

Well, I see this playing out one of three ways. Way one is we win the Super Bowl in the next 3 years and he retires on top so as no one can question him. Way two is after year 5, this being year 3, if we haven't won the big one he leaves the franchise for greener pastures (it's really easy to win the NFC/AFC West right now.) And the third being that he really enjoys the south fla weather, the beaches, the golf courses, not having to deal with the media, not having to answer to anyone, and of course, no state tax and stays here till he dies lol

I think he stays and finishes his contract out. Then he could look back after we win a couple Super Bowls and say "I did this. I made it happen."

Imho Bill Parcell's next move will be into Ownership and Tampa and Jacksonville are not solid franchises financially and are instate in FL.

He's done everything else, though I also suspect he wants to overcome the Patriots to reach one last SB.

My hunch is this is his last year. Got nothing to base it on, just my gut. IIRC, he has an out clause in his contract, and can walk at any time. A lot will be determined by the success of the team IMO, but I can definitely see a scenario in which he can justify his departure by saying he achieved what he set out for, and left the team in much better shape than when he arrived.

Don't forget, Huizenga hired Parcells, not Ross. Just sayin'.

    JMHO...

If Bill makes the Pro-Bowl this year I think he'll stay for another.

First off, he's had a home in Boca for about 10 years. So he is no newbie to South Fla. I don't think whatever happens to his tenure with the Dolphins that will change. So this gig is VERY convenient for him. He can build a franchise and play golf every day. He loves it. That is a plus in his staying here until the job is done.

2ndly this is very important for his legacy. He has participated in a number of playoff games but hasn't won a Super Bowl since he won with the Giants against the Bills in Tampa (in 1991 ???). He would like nothing better than to end his career master planning the Dolphins rise from 1-15 drechts to Super Bowl Champions. He never got the Patriots, Jets or Cowboys to the promised land - never completed the job. Something always happened and he left before it came to fruition. This is the biggest reason I believe he will stay until the job is done.

Only snag could be Ross. His mouth may drive Parcells out the door sooner rather than later. If Ross turns into a Daniel Snyder, all bets are off and I think Parcells will be out the door, see ya later.

There are way too many false assumptions in this one paragraph alone. I'll make one of my own: that when you say "[Ross'] mouth," you refer to his stated expectation of reaching the Super Bowl.

First, if a team or organization doesn't expect to reach the Super Bowl in a given season, then why bother to play the games? Just cancel training camp and forfeit the schedule. Ross' public expectation of a Super Bowl appears out of line only if you're an idiot reporter looking for a headline during a slow news cycle. Unfortunately, that's the exact makeup of the Dolphins press corps right now.

Second, you assume that Parcells doesn't share Ross' sentiment. Parcells' disdain for the media doesn't constitute disagreement with Ross on the Super Bowl expectation or anything else.

Lastly, if you think Stephen Ross is like Daniel Snyder, then you have no idea why Snyder's name is a pejorative. The two couldn't be any further apart right now.

I never thought Bill would last this long. It's all just an added bonus that he is still hanging around. This year will be pivotal in my opinion because there may be a lot more work to do...

I think he's gone after this year. My gut tells me Ross is becoming a pain to Bill. I think we're going to get stuck with Peterson

If that's the case. The fanbase needs to have a pre-emptive strike against Ross before he screws things up again like the T-pain song. He's shown he's willing to listen to the fans, but I don't think we can allow him to make any decisions and then read and react. So as soon as Parcells retires we need to poll all websites and come up with our guy and then storm the Davie facility protesting our choice before Ross ends up making Jimmy Buffet our next GM or whatever...

I think he makes this his last gig. He's got everything he wants right here. As long as he has control of the football side of the operations and Ross doesn't start interfering with it he's here to stay.

I think his goal is to finish out his contract. But it's also possible that he could be here until he retires. Your goals tend to change as you age. He may have reached the point where he spends most of his time playing golf and a smaller portion watching the team and providing guidance to his protege. He may see no reason to change that arrangement.

Not only that but the position was one uniquely made for Miami. It's a position for very troubled franchises. Once Parcells is out it won't be a position that is replaced. Besides we got Parcells for 3 seasons. I think everyone in the beginning said they would be happy if he stayed that long and he has.

That's just it he has a pretty sweet deal here. Hell I could be wrong, but I just don't see him getting a better deal anywhere else.

I was one of those...he really has no incentive to stay and can pick up his old gig at ESPN and probably be happy. He's never finished out an NFL contract. I suspect he won't this one, but was wrong about it being this offseason...(so far)...

On the other hand, he lives here in SF and that was before the Fins gig. Maybe he stays, but I just don't see it...what's the incentive ??

I believe Parcells designed this to be his last stop in the NFL, and will stay until we win a SB or he turns 70 when his contract runs out, whichever happens first.

If he stays for the full 4 years of his contract, he will be 70 when it is over, if he wins or even just gets us into a SB before he does retire, he absolutely cements himself as: 1. a first ballot HOF'er and 2. one of the greatest coaches/executives ever in the NFL. Took the Giants & won 2 SB, then took the Pats to the SB but lost, then took the Jets to the AFC Championship game, would have made the SB if his players had not fumbled or turned the ball over 6 times in that game. Then he took the Cowboys from perennial cellar dwellers and put together a playoff team. Now he wants to finish off his career with 1 last SB win. Then I think he retires in a blaze of glory.

JMVHO, he loves it here, has his home here, is pushing 70, I do NOT think he goes to another team, he set himself up exactly how he wanted things here, no pressure, no media, doesn't even travel to away games, why leave this gig for another team or before he retires at 70? BP is so calculating I am absolutely convinced he won't work a day past age 70.

This is Bill's last stop, IMO and I thank God for it!

All of this talk about whats his incentive to stay...I think he has no incentive to leave. He has zero demands on his time now. And we should be very competitive this year. A few things go right for this team, and we could be Super Bowl bound. If not this year, probably next. Its just a matter of time until he is further deified...with very little actual work. Hes got the Papa Bear mentality, but in all actuality, Ireland and Sparano are running things. The key decision that BP will have to make, IMO, is Sparano up to the job. Last year, again IMHO, he was not. If TS is, we could become the next Eagles franchise with Lurie, Banner, and Reid...very good for a very long time. If TS can coach, there is no reason for BP to leave.

Very well said. In addition, I think it's a mistake to assume that Ross is anxious to replace Parcells with Crazy Carl simply based on the fact that they're old friends.
We have no way of knowing how well Ross' and Parcells' working relationship is. However we do know that Ross has repeatedly stated that he believes Parcells is the best football mind in the business. If you believe that then why would you not bend over backwards to make sure that "the best football mind in the business" stays? For that matter, before Ross would allow Parcells to leave I could see him offering him part ownership.
Furthermore, I believe Parcells is smart enough to understand that there is an entertainment side to the NFL that has to be nurtured (as you alluded to). So I really do not see it bothering him that Ross is focusing on that aspect of the team; as long as he leaves the football aspect to Parcells to run.
Without knowing for sure, I think Parcells is pretty content here. He has virtual autonomy to run the team, and that's what he's always stated that he wanted. The one thing that's missing for him is a Super Bowl win by the team that Bill built.
So...I think he'll be here for awhile.
