It also appears that both the Yankees and Rays play a random series against the Astros this year. That seems completely legitimate.

Its not like those 9 games could be important to the divisional race or anything.

While we draw the Rockies at Colorado. Yeah sounds fair. Also the Sox play SF while neither the Yankees or Rays do. The Rays also play the Marlins, Braves and Padres but not Philly or the Dodgers like the Yankes and Sox do. At least the Yankees play Philly at home. The other thing that annoys me is how the Sox play the Dodgers at home but the Yankees have to play them in LA, likewise the Rays play Houston at Houston while the Yankees play them at home. It's really just not fair to any team. It's just dumb.

I also have big issues with Interleague play...why are the Braves playing the Pirates right now? They need to set up a schedule like the NFL where every team plays another team within a five year period. My Phillies always play the Yankees, Rays and Red Sox.....only once in a rare while they play cupcakes like the Orioles. The Rockies announcer was gushing about how the Rockies are the only NL team since 2000 with a winning record against AL teams...what a shock when they play the Royals and A's in IL play all the time. It's a joke.

Well the problem with the NL is that they have 2 more teams than the AL, so there's always going to be two NL teams playing each other during interleague. But yeah interleague isn't fair to any team.

Yeah I know a couple teams are always gong to be off and not playing IL because there are 2 fewer NL teams, but either every NL team should play every AL team on a scheduled basis or they should just have maybe one four-game series or two three-game series. They should not be playing 10+ IL games.

Old Charlie Manuel always has to give a couple starters off, even though the Phillies don't play Monday. Brooks Robinson Dobbs had a particularly brilliant fielding day today to go along with his .162 batting average. Good that Hoover also replaced Ruiz at Catcher. I think Charlie was told that games against Boston don't count in the real standings because they are an AL team. He is such a bumpkin. Fans at the CBP should have been given a refund for this weekend. What a sad performanace.

Interleague play is stupid and the way they do it creates unfair advantages for some teams over others. I wish they'd scrap it. If somebody wants interleague play they can watch the World Series.

It's a long season, it's a good chance to give some starters rest. Bobby did the same thing today vs. Pittsburgh. He rested about half of the starting lineup. They lost in extras. Sure the sweep would have been nice but a healthy team is nicer.

Thank God we didn't give up Buchholz in a trade last year, he has been the most consistent guy all year, he looks great.

Bob Davidson made up for Dale Scott last night.....over the course of the season it evens out...but both these UMP's blow when it comes to strikezone...and its not even about consistency when its a FOOT or MORE outside. It was a disgrace when it happened to Big Papi and same last night vs. Crawford.

I can't believe what I witnessed last night:

    - David Ortiz cleaned out a high/tight fastball and deposited it into the right field bleachers

    - Adrian Beltre displayed (gasp) power and delivered 6 RBIs

    - They won a game started by Garza and swept the Rays at the Trop (mind-blowing)

Its unbelievable how quickly this team has turned the corner. I left them for dead about a week ago, but it appears they will in fact be playing some meaningful baseball post-memorial day.

I told you guys you shouldnt worry, fact is, Tampa I am not sold on, and Boston was just playing bad.....as I said before they will be there in the end...trust me....championship IDK?? who knows at this point, but for anyone to think THAT team was playing 500 ball for the whole year is outright a fantasy...

I'm shocked at how this team has played in the past week. They might be playing meaningful games this summer after all. Sucks Ellsbury is back on the DL now though.

How come that Ellsbury guy always seems to be banged up with minor injuries and he acts like he has a broken leg or broken ribs? Man up dude!!!!

I know many Sox fans who think he is a little bit on the "fragile" and whimpy side. :shifty: You see other Sox players toughening it out and playing with injuries. :wink2:

Ummm Ellsbury does have broken ribs that's why he was on the DL for a month or so and that's why he's back on the DL because they are still bothering him. I don't think it's remotely fair to question anyone about an injury, especially one that's legit so any Sox fans that actually are questioning him are completely wrong.

It wasn't just some fans. Lou Merloni, and a couple other guys, host a baseball show on NESN every Saturday morning and they seemed to be calling out Ellsbury as well. It does look like the Sox have turned it around. Big Papi is no longer the whipping boy.

I haven't heard that but if Merloni did say that I think he's out of line questioning someone over injuries, especially since Merloni was an ex player himself. Merloni has been known to say things to stir the pot a bit too, just the typical talking media heads.

Guys are finally pitching to their potential. Lester, Beckett, Lackey and Buchholz all have #1 stuff and everyone but Beckett is starting to pitch like it.

OF Ryan Kalish has been promoted to Triple A. You have to wonder if he continues to hit, he might play a role with the Sox later in the year, if nothing else both him and Anderson should get cups of coffee in September.

Looks like we're going to be seeing some roster moves coming in the next few days.

Mike Cameron might be headed back to the DL after his stomach started to bother him after Sunday's game. If he's out you'd think the Sox would look to call up Josh Reddick who is very good with the glove only he's been terrible at the plate this year in Triple A, hitting under .200 and hardily walking. I'm not sure how long I can stand an OF of Hall/Hermida/McDonald since those guys are below average at best out there. And who knows when Ellsbury will be back. It's too bad Reddick hasn't taken the opportunity of MLB playing time, as the kid does have talent, especially with the glove and his arm, but he has no feel for the strike zone and MLB pitchers will eat him up, much like Triple A pitchers are right now. I'm starting to wonder that if Ryan Kalish has a good month in Triple A and both Cameron and Ellsbury are still out of action if he might get the call since he too is a very good defensive OFer.

Boof Bonser's 30 day rehab assignment is up I believe on June 6th so the Sox either have to put him on the 25 man roster or DFA him. I'm guessing they will send down Atichson or Joe Nelson and call up Boof, who has potential to be a pretty good reliever if he stays healthy. I'm somewhat excited for him, he can't be any worse than Aitchson, Nelson or Ramon Ramirez have been this year.

Word is Mike Lowell's days with the Sox are numbered. Seattle, Texas and White Sox are interested. Apparently the Angels aren't nor are the Twins. The Sox would have to pay most if not all of his salary. I have heard the Sox don't want to release him because they figure the Yankees would sign him as their DH and back up 1B/3B.

Gammons has reported the Sox are looking at bench help with someone who can play middle INF as well as a good OF since the players on the Sox bench are pretty bad defensively but they're not finding those players being available or out there right now. Gammons also said he wouldn't be surprised to see Jed Lowrie up as the back up INFer once he started playing and getting in game shape from mono that's killed his year so far.

Buchholz, great again last night, easily our best pitcher this year. The lineup is also coming around, nice to see V-Mart take it up a couple of notches in the last 2 weeks, he is crushing the ball. Sox only 4.5 games out now..

Yeah it's great to see Buchholz finally take the next step this year. Hopefully Lackey starts to heat up soon and when Beckett comes back he gets on a roll as well. I do finally see some weaknesses with New York and Tampa now, although I still don't think the Sox are as good as they are, it might be a fun/interesting/wild summer ahead.

Also I'm really liking Adrian Beltre now. Go figure.

Today is draft day. Hopefully the Sox continue their streak of having good drafts even though there's not a whole lot of impact talent this year. Should be interesting to see who they go after.

Sox had to pretty good first day of the draft, according to people who know about these kids. They drafted 2B/OF Kolbrin Vitek, OF Bryce Brentz and RHP Anthony Ranaudo. Word is the Sox are already close to signing Vitek and he will play 3B in the minors for them. Brentz has a lot of power from the right side of the plate and Ranaudo was one of the better pitching prospects heading into the 2010 season before an injury tanked his season. Scouts think he could be a solid #2 pitcher with mid 90s stuff, his agent is Scott Boras so he might be tough to sign. Let's not forget that we really should thank the Mets for our 3 picks today. I'm sure Theo is going to be sending Omar Minaya a nice fruit basket this week.

Sox have the 7th pick in the next round and then pick 28th in each of the following rounds. Should be interesting to see if they target tomorrow.

EDIT: Word is the Sox have a deal in place for Brentz as well. So both him and Vitek could start playing in A ball shortly since both are college guys.

Couple of beat downs of the Phils is nice, but losing the other day to Masterson was brutal. Bats are really hitting the ball right now and starting pitching is coming around.

I don't know if Manuel is the problem. He can't play the games for them. Reportedly near the end of the Atlanta series he was attempting to light a fire under them.

I was shocked when I saw Atichson starting the game, I turned it on to see him get the last out in the 1st inning and thought we were screwed. It was a very satisfying win. Especially with Daniel Nava hitting a grand slam with the first pitch he saw. What a great moment, usually if you knew his back story and how he worked to get to the MLB. Hopefully the Sox can win again tomorrow.

Yeah the Phillies should call up all of those good minor league players they got for Cliff Lee, like Phillippe Aumont. Oh wait I forgot he got demoted to Single A (and he got bombed in his first appearance there too). I told you they should have kept Lee.

The Phillies have some very good young players like Dom Brown....but NOOOO they are keeping Greg Dobbs in the lineup with his .140 batting average. Aumont isn't a starter...he's a closer....that's how he needs to be used.

Cliff Lee's Mariners are horrible....I doubt he will be around Seattle come trade deadline so the trade didn't hurt us much. Halladay replacing Lee was a wash....we could not have had both Halladay and Lee and still had money to sign other players. The Phillies still have to decide whether to offer Werth a deal.....I am kind of hoping he is dealt away. Lets see what Wakie has today. :wink2:

The main problem is not having Jimmy Rollins at SS and leading off for the Phillies. Victorino is better off hitting in the 2 spot or batting seventh. It has a domino affect on the entre lineup, and Valdez just isn't getting it done as his replacement.

Where is Brown going to play? He's an OFer. Unless you think the Philles should bench Ibanez and play Brown, having Dobbs in the line up has nothing to do with Brown.

Aumont being a reliever makes the Cliff Lee deal worse, which I told you back in December when you argued with me that he was going to be a starter. Why would you trade a top 10 MLB pitcher for a reliever then, especially one with control problems? It was a bad trade in December and an even worse trade now.

The Mariners being bad has nothing to do with the Phillies. Who cares what the Mariners do, the point is you got bad prospects for Lee. Just admit that the Phillies made a bad trade for Lee. They claim they made the trade to get prospects into their system but the prospects they got for Lee just aren't very good. The Phillies should have held onto Lee and go all in this season and then if/when he walks after the season why get 2 draft picks for him (that have the potential to be better than the 3 prospects they received from Seattle).

Again if it was a money thing that the Phillies should have and could have traded Blanton, and kept both Halladay and Lee for a year, and let Lee walk with the two picks. The Phillies did not sign any big FA this off season after the Lee trade (Polanco was signed 2 weeks before the trade), unless you count the 2 year 5.25 deal they gave Baez, which isn't big money by any means, so that's an incorrect statement.

Bottom line is the Phillies crapped the bed on the Lee deal, no matter how you look at it. No matter if it was for money reasons or trying to restock the farm system, it was a bad trade.

The future of the pitching staff is Lester and Buchholz, the Sox would be sunk without these two. The whole staff is coming around, but these two guys are getting it done. Sox only 3 games out now, slowly but surely winning at a steady pace now.

And getting Beckett and Lackey back on track won't hurt either, I'm just going to assume both will be much better in the 2nd half. And even Matsuzaka has thrown pretty well this year.

I do think you'll see the Sox go out and get another OFer if they're worried about the health of Ellsbury and/or Cameron but they definitely need another arm for the pen since Bard won't be able to wipe his butt by September with the rate he's throwing.

    Question of the Day.....2 part..

    1) Do you think Manny pulls up "lame" today against Cinny and sits out this weekends games against the Sox?

    2) If he does play, do the Sox fans cheer him or boo him?

    I say no and yes(cheer).....respectfully....
