Mankins prepping to holdout entire season

Apparently teams can reduce the tender amount, albeit not a very "goodwillish" gesture, but can be done. I fully expected the Pats to be the ones to do it to one of the best guards in the league.....must be saving their pennies for Brady...

Lastly watch yet again how the Pats fleece some unsuspecting team for a 1st rounder....just watch....below courtsey of rotoword...

The Boston Globe's Albert Breer reports that the Patriots have already dropped unsigned restricted free agent LG Logan Mankins' tender offer from $3.268 million to $1.54 million.

The league apparently began allowing teams to drop RFA tender offers at 4PM ET Monday, and the Patriots wasted no time. This will only serve to increase the chances that Mankins stages a holdout into the regular season. At this point, it's difficult to imagine him in the starting lineup for Week 1.

The Cheapriots do not wish to pay anyone and that will come back to bite them.

well thats the thing Pads, when they were the clear cut favorities to contend for the super bowl every year, people bought into the system, and took discounts to go there, also there was a different class of people there, Bruschi, Johnson, troy brown....etc....

Now that they arent clear cut anymore, and going IMO in the wrong direction, people dont want to hear it anymore..

Well, when they were contenders consistently they also had drone type players, guys who they would plug into the Belicheck Way and they performed at a high level. Back then they didn't really have any stars aside from Tom Brady, and they had typically few pro bowlers to deal with signing.

Fast forward to now, they have lost that sort of "Belicheck Drone" feel to their squad and they want to be paid, but the cheapriots don't pay their players they tend to trade them rather than pay them.

agreed they have lived off of trading them away, and drafting well.....BB hasnt drafted well since Pioli went to KC IMO....even this years draft I didnt think was all that great...

you think that is more of BB or Krafts philosophy, not to pay...

Tom Dimitroff heading to Atlanta also was a serious blow.

Both of them, BB, imho, still thinks it is 2002 and he can simply find scrap heap players who can play at a SB Champion level, Kraft doesn't mind pocketing the dollars that BB philosophy leaves as surplus.

Cheapriots have only signed one big dollar FA, Adalius Thomas, since then they stick with the circa 2002 philosophy, or worse for them, the 2007 pass happy philosophy that they are supposedly trying to move away from.

Exactly, if they are going to be a power running team, one would think they would have a power running back, or several of them, they have Green-Ellis..that's it.

So chances are good 34yrs old Brady will have to drop back and spray the ball around again, but even then, the quality of the Wr corps has dropped.

BGE...ehhh...not at all scary...to me anyway, and Pads what do u think is going to happen to Moss this year, does he pack it in??

Part of me says no....new agent, paying for his last contract, wants money

but also part of me says yes he does, he always does, he will fatten up against the lesser teams, and Miami of course.....

Who knows FY? Moss is very much the front runner player, when things roll good, he rolls along, things start going wobbly, Moss checks out his alligator arms and doesn't fight for balls in the air.

Back to that power running stuff, it reminds me of the Bills drafting a running back, while ignoring their needs at both offensive tackles, how are you going to run the ball when your tackles are more likely backups or not on roster on any other team in the NFL?

In that light, how are the Patriots going to switch to a power running game when they do not have a power running back? In the BB glory days, one of those backs in DC, Johnson, Parker or Portis would be in New England ala Corey Dillion.

very true...BB's moves have been puzzling to say the least recently, 2 TE's drafted this year?? There were decent power backs, in the draft this year, and still remain out there....as we know if you OL is good, as the Pats is good enough, they could move the rock on the power game, have Maroney as the outside guy, Faulk the all world 3rd down guy....he still wants to ride Bradys arms for 37-50 times a game at the age of 34, and off a major knee surgery....he will be a dolcile target back there, and dropping back that many times at his age, cna t be that great....

And Pads also noteworth, their WR corp isnt world beaters either...Moss fine, Edleman is good, Welker who knows what you get from him...? They would probably bring in TO, if they didnt have Moss already....

The Pats could be either the same as last year or go backwards a bit....

Leave it up to the Pats to find/exploit these little loopholes. I swear, sometimes it's like they have a team of attorneys raiding the books year-round.

The Patriots are done. Belichick doesn't even know how to draft anymore.

That is true, but I really think it falls apart this year. I say they go 9-7 at best and do not win the division.

FWIW, I think Miami will go 10-6 and earn a wild card berth.

I simply think years of bad drafting catches them this year.

Well, they have won 21 games the last two seasons so they aren't d-o-n-e, however the gap between the Cheapriots and the Rest of the AFCE is miniscule now.

And you are right, the more Brady drops back to throw, the better the chance of another injury happening to him at his age, 34 is right around the time those dings and knicks start to add up for a Qb, recall that Warner was crappy in NY due to his thumb, it took him several years to get completely healthy.

Here is where things grow even odder, they used high draft picks on:

The NCAA kick return yardage leader who appears to have a chronically bad knee. (Brandon Tate)

Taylor Price from tiny Ohio University, it takes time for the vast majority of small college Wr to learn the NFL route tree and just how to to get open.

Meanwhile they will have to make do with Edelman, career ST Wr Sam Aiken, and the truculent Randy Moss..once again, how is that going to work exactly?

Pats still have nice pieces at 4 of the Big 5 building blocks, Qb/LT/Wr/Cb/ but they are missing a passrusher and Leigh Boden is only okay, he is not a shut down type of Cb.

So this should be a great yr of football in the AFCE, like the old NFCE in the mid 80's with Tuna/Gibbs/Ryan running herd.

Spiller making me cry? Sure. Good luck with NO OFFENSIVE LINE.

Waaa lucky. There's a new one.

Rumor has it, Mankins was offered 5 years, 7 milllion per. If this is true, patriots were not the cheapriots. Mankins just think he's better than top 5.

We have no clue how the contract was structured or the guaranteed money involved. They could still be cheap.

    2010: 4 Mill
    2011: 5 Mill
    2012: 6 Mill
    2013: 6 Mill
    2014: 14 Mill

That's 5 years at an average of 7 Mill per season. But of course he'd never get paid that 14 Mill in 2014.

I mean there are plenty of ways to make 5 years at 7/yr look good, but on football contracts it's rarely that cut and dry.

Friends of Patriots LG Logan Mankins say he doesn't need the money and would have no problem holding out for the entire 2010 season.

Some believe that Mankins will eventually sign his tender and report to camp, but those that know him well describe him as frugal and someone that can afford to hold out. Mankins, who has said the Patriots lied about how much money they were going to offer him, is hoping that with a new league CBA, he’ll become a free agent.
