Cam is in a bad spot, the whole team is, if the team doesn't give up on Cam in an obvious manner, that does count for something.

Crowder has been disappointing, as has Matt Roth.

And that is Cam's problem, no one would dare say "Great HC" it the sort of warm milk rehabilitative statement of "He's a good OC" which for a HC is like "Well, she's fat but cute"..A HC has to be able to handle all phases of the game.

Depends HC's are a strange breed, sometimes they see the impossible as a challenge to be overcome, other times they lose interest and go elsewhere like Patrino did.

Vermeil didn't have to go to the Cheifs, heck, his legacy was secured as soon as the Rams won a Super Bowl after he had been retired 17 yrs.

    He just wanted the challenge.

I'd like to go a few years with the same head coach and same quaterback, build the OLine and DLine through the draft. Then in a couple of years after some stability we will be able to make a decison on the current head coach and QB.

Despite the record, poor time keeping, odd play calling. I stick with Cam (and Beck and draft linemen)

Im not a huge fan of anyone on this list, Garrett aside, and hes not leaving Dallas. He will be the HC there in a year or two.

Cowher sounds nice, but I say this alot, we need to make sure hes really in it to turn us around. I dont want to end up with another Jimmy Johnson situation with an unenthused coach going at it.
Marty might be OK. But again his age is a little scary. And hes not a long term choice at all. Big NOs on Mora and Gaily.
Rivera doesnt impress me to much. I have some Chicago fan relatives and they all said Rivera was overhyped, that the D was more a product of Lovie than Ron.

Singletary interests me, at least he might get guys playing.

I think Mora Jr is under rated. Mora did take a crappy team to the NFC Championship game. Sometimes these guys come back as better coaches the next time around. Marty might be too old maybe if he really wanted to come back to coaching I'd be OK with it. I don't think Cowher will be ready to come back to football for a couple years. Jason Garrett is an interesting choice, I would be happy with that hire too.

Cowher would be a good choice. Though I am just as wary as others of him coming down when his heart isn't in it. We've already been through that with JJ and Dick Saban.
But he is a proven winner (when he has a QB) and was consistent and competitive in Pittsburgh. A little too loyal to Kordell Stewart. But he is still one of the top 5 coaches over the last decade.

My personal choice is for Marty. Ever since he was with the Chiefs and I wanted to see him as the successor to Shula due to their longtime friendship, I've envisioned Marty walking the Miami sidelines. He just always seems to be looking for a job the year before or after Miami has an opening. Missed him by a month last off season.

Look at his career and it is a lot like Shula. With the exception of the 8-8 one and done in Washington, Marty has finished with a winning record every where he has coached. 2 losing seasons in 22 years. 7-9 in his final year in KC, and finished 4-12 in his 2nd year in SD and responded with a 12-4 turnaround the next year. Fields regular playoff contenders, and his teams rebound. Started 0-5 in Washington, then ripped off 5 straight wins.

Marty is going to get another head coaching job somewhere. And I believe he will finally overcome the "can't win the big one" stigma that has haunted him since Ernest Byner's fumble against Denver. It might as well be in Miami.

I F, and thats a big IF, Marty Schottenheimer was willing to train his replacement in 4 yrs, I'd love to see him as HC. I would also really like to see if we could wave enough moolah under Josh McDaniels (?) (Tom Brady's Offensive Coordinator) nose to get him to move to sunny south Fla.
I don't think Cowher goes back to Coaching next year but if he does I guess that would be OK.

Bottom line, unless the players totally revolt this year, I say stick with Cam and see what another draft does for us, his first one was pretty good.

Bill Cower would be the first choice hands down. Brings instant credibility to the organization and complete trust of the season ticket holders. Bryan from Ohio will be extremely pleased. Wayne has to do everything in his power to make this happen. I also really believe we need to package some picks and rescue Brady Quinn from the Browns and bring him home to Miami. The Browns are set with Derek Anderson and would be open to getting back the pick they lost last season. Brady is a perfect fit for Miami, big strong arm and he will sellout the stadium.

Also do not forget we are changing uniforms and logos in April. !!!

Garrett, Cowher, and Schottenheimer would be on my short list. I've seen some impressive and very keen offensive playcalling out of Garrett and since he knows a number of the existing guys here, won't be a stranger. And he's currently the hottest HC candidate according to most. Doesn't have HC experience but doesn't have a bad history either (see Cam's tenure in Indiana). Cowher and Schottenheimer obviously have experience and the credibility we would need after a very horrible season.

I chose "Other" ... because for the poll to be accurate you should have included Cam Cameron. ANd that he who I want to be the head coach.

The premise of the poll was who you'd like to have as coach if Cam is fired. The question of whether or not to fire Cam is therefore not at issue here. You are welcome to choose not to participate, but don't call the poll inaccurate.

Well if that is the premise, I would choose Marty S, simply to protect the credibility of the Miami Dolphins Franchise, if we are going to make a change, then we should divert from the unknown and go with the proven track record.

I mean come on folks, Jason Garret?

Yah I mean who would really want one of the hottest coaches on the market? (Yes that's dripping with sarcasm). A guy who Dallas was ready to give him the HC spot if Miami wouldn't let him go to Dallas this past offseason. A man that Parcells has called a natural.

Jason Garrett would be a great choice, although I think it's slightly odds on that Cam will be back. His'nBeatYour'n has some interesting points about Marty. He knows how to improve bad teams pretty rapidly. Don't know what Brian Schottenheimer's contract looks like with the Jets, but at some point perhaps he could be groomed to take over for Marty. Don't think Cowher will coach here. Most likely Carolina will be his next stop. Bottom line if Garrett is available get him.

    Too funny,

Ahh Van, a little history lesson for you:

When the now "sainted" Bill Parcells was preparing to retire for the first time from the Giants, he delayed his retirement until AFTER the normal time period for other teams to make their Head Coaching decisions, he did this for one specific reason:

Saint Bill decided that he didn't want his Defensive Co-ordinator to have the job, and wanted HIS guy, Ray Handley to get the Giants Head Coaching job.

His DC was..Bill Belicheck, who had to take the crappy Browns job rather then the supposedly "plum" Giants HC position...

I think we know the rest of the story.....:ffic:

    So?

There is nothing on the line for Parcells to say such right now. When Garrett left to go to Dallas there were comments galore to what the league thought of Garrett. You look at the relationship he has with players, how he handles the media. The guy just exudes the feeling that he will be one of those great future coaches.

If Wayne actually does make a coaching change, I think his preference would clearly be for a Schottenheimer type. However, you can't completely discount coordinators. That's typically where your pool of candidates comes from.

Awsi dodger and I both brought up Steve Spagnuolo in another thread. He is the Giants DC and has really done a nice job this year.

Also, are we going to hire a strong VP/General Manager who will be able to hire the coach? If so, they may not want someone who can overshadow them.

Just some things to keep in mind

Everyone seems to be taking the same coachs. No one willing to step out and name different names? Marty is barely acceptable , Parcells would be a good pres or GM but no coach please.

I would take Garett , Mike Martz , Mariucci.I do hope Cam is given another year.

I would also take Mike Shula. Maybe we're getting dorked this year for passing him over last year for Cameron.
