dolphins football cards

Seriously, i would like to collect some old Dolphin Cards myself. I dont need the big pricey ones just a way to pick up my old friends that i grew up on.

 

I have all of Marino's cards up until around 1997. That's when there seemed to be 1000 different companies making cards. I gave up. I did pick up a couple of his jerseys cards on eBay. They have little pieces of a jersey he wore during a game. They are pretty cool.

 

They are all over Ebay gapper.

 

Hit the link and take your pick. There has to be card shops around where you live, they are all over. Stop in one, it will amaze you what these guys have. Best place though is Ebay now. Tons of regular guys on there that deal daily in cards of any sport. Most are reputable. Try a local card shop first so you can see whats around or available but you will probably pay a premium.

Make sure you shop around....... the card market is total crap and there's no reason to buy anything at a premium price.

And.... if you're going to collect some, do it because you want to keep the collection for your own pleasure. Not as an investment thinking that you're going to cash in one day and make money. Those days are long gone...

 

Depends JS, as a general rule absolutely, unless one is talking about a T-203, however the remaining market, such as it is, revolves around high quality, professionally graded cards, and even then I wouldn't touch anything under a BCGS 9.6 or higher.

The upside is, if one is into collecting autographs, there has never been a better time to be a sports fan, previously most Auto's were unobtainable or highly dubious in provenance, now the card companies are nice enough to have the players sign for you and include those signatures in the market.

Anything that is limited is going to be expensive to purchase, even by the pack or case.... that kinda kills the whole buy it and wait for it to go up in value idea.

I was heavy into cards about 20 years ago and altho I ended up with a decent collection, in hindsight I pretty much blew a great chance to end up with a great collection.

I wouldn't let go of anything..... collected stacks of every decent prospect there was. What I should have done is traded those stacks for stuff like Mickey Mantle cards or Marino rookies..... of which I have 3...

I will absolutely never spend another dime on cards.... it's just too addicting

 

I have a pretty big size binder of just Dolphins football cards that I wouldn't mind getting rid of. I just actually moved them into a storage unit. I believe they are from various years, probably 1983-92. I have a boatload of Marino cards, except for his rookie card (which my punk brother stole while I was in the army, along with a Marino autograph)

Depends, quality over quantity now though.

Pretty much, there was a "bubble' in sports cards 25-20 yrs ago.

WEll, when you can buy a BCGS 10 autographed Brandon Marshal rook for 25.00 sometimes it is too difficult to pass up.

That and Ebay has really changed things, in the past one would have to truck down to the local card shop and hope you could get what you could from a dealer who also had to make their profit, now you can just directly sell to the public.

 

I used to be a big collector and have thousands of cards. I have a lot of good ones, but also a lot of bad ones. You should see how many Chris Chambers cards I have. I wasted a lot of money investing in that guy. I also bought some Ted Ginn cards.

I started a long long time ago and have every Topps Miami Dolphins team set going back to 1966. I organized them in binders with a cover page for each year that includes all the games and team leaders. It reads like a great history book. I agree with Mbs3009 that the cards got out of hand in the 90's. Now I just pick up the Topps team set for about $2 on eBay each year. I also pick up one jersey card for each player I like. The coolest part of my collection is the 1997 Upper Deck Legends Autograph set. I have just the Dolphins set but it includes all the legends (minus Marino) and all of them are autographed right on the card, not the sticker they seem to put on all of them now. Thankfully I picked these up in 1997 because they are way too expensive now, especially Csonka. Thankfully my 7 year old son is a huge Dolphin fan so it will be passed down to someone who will continue the collection and keep it like a family album.
