Per Tim Graham's AFCE Blog. According to Joyner, Revis is not worth the huge contract, and if does receive a huge contract Joyner further argues that his play will decline.
IMO CBs shouldn't command those elite dollars anymore. It's just too simple to game plan around any one CB. I see Ss as much more impactful. IMO a much better financial strategy is to have have good (not elite) CBs who are reliable tacklers. I I would spend my elite dollars at QB, LT, #1 WR and pressure players. I also think NTs, Ss and Cs have greater impact but you don't always have to spend the top tier money for those positions. This would be my tier two. I would place CBs along with RBs, ILBs and Gs in that next tier as far as impact goes (but money wise they may command tier two money). Now I do think that you can make an exception for elite players at most any position, but that is always tempered how much more impact the elite player will have over the typical good player. IMO it's very debatable whether Revis' impact will equal the impact of the three other players you could sign for the same total.
This is a beast that Rex Ryan created, when Revis didn't get DPOY award he should have keep his fat mouth shut instead of spouting how Revis is the best defensive player in the league, now of course Revis wants to be paid accordingly to this praise. This couldn't happen to better people.
Your actions will always catch up to you. I've felt like Rex has made a lot of comments that a head coach shouldn't make.
No cornerback is worth $15 million a year. Thanks, Al "zombie" Davis. That being said, if worst comes to worst, the Jets are going to have to dish out that type of money if they want to retain Revis. You simply can't let a player like him walk away. You just can't. Ideally, he'd "settle" [] for 12mil/year and be happy about it.
I honestly dont think anything the raiders do should be considered when talking about contracts, they HAVE to overpay to keep any decent talent there but it shouldnt set the market value. If Revis really wants 16 mill a year then if I were the Jets I wouldnt give it to him either, but I think something in the 10-12 million per year range is fair.
I think the Jets should make an example of him to the rest of the team looking for big paychecks and just cut him.
Pay for the whole island the funds will then run short for the team as a whole. I like the thought of that.
That's pretty darn hard to determine. I would say he's top 5 I hope he holds out and it sets the tone for the other 20 or so Jest players that are going to be FA's at the seasons end.
At least ted ginn is out of the AFCE so no more embarrassing burnt toast episodes like last year! Problem with cornerbacks are that you need 3 of them. The strong one is, the weaker the other ones look.
No, he's not. Nnamdi Asomugha is better. Revis gets so much safety help that he might as well be a siamese twin. Revis Island is a myth. It doesn't exist.
I loved watching Randy Moss catch a short slant against Revis at the goal line and make him look inept. It was great.
thats your opinion, i respect it, I disagree.. His instincts, athletic ability to mimmick, and range off the receiver, does the same for his defense, as Marshall will do for our offense. I'am not about the myth or the safety siamese twin thing, I just know he is the best i've seen.
