When I was at the 1986 World Cup, we went to the 3rd place game also and saw France play, but Platini didn't want to play in a useless game, so he didn't even suit up. When we saw him walk onto the field in street clothes, we were like Shi t, what a load of crap, but we understood.
I'm not his biggest fan either, but the guy was the best player I've ever seen play so far in my life......There I go again
it always bothers me when Argentina doesn't wear their classic jersey's. The Greeks are determined to bore the planet to death today.
Most Distinctive uniforms on earth: Argentina National Team Oakland Raiders Celtic FC Newcastle United Los Angeles Lakers New York Yankees
i dont know who that team in the dark blue is. i really like our dark blues though. i cant believe some of the crap we used to wear
NIGERIA! finally..an african nation gets a little luck. terrible ball finds it's way to the back of the net.
THIS is a match...I am off the Argentina/Greece borefest and watching this one. SO. Korea and Nigeria are going for it today.
You could make a pretty decent argument that the French midfield that won the European Championship in 1984 and who were knocked out in the Mexico '86 semis was the best ever: Platini, who was my boyhood hero. I even kept a scrapbook; Jean Tigana, Alain Giresse and Luis Fernandez. Brilliant. Platini was a magician. I think in Euro 84 he scored 10 goals in the tournament. From midfield. Only player to win back to back to back European Footballer of the Year awards. Genius.
They won the European Championships that England should have won in 2004. Biggest shock ever. They got to the final by not scoring in the semis and won it by not scoring till late in extra time in the final. Was so dull.
so who does the US start tomorrow since we have a suspension and need to find a way to attack and score more? edu? mostly likely. maybe buddle again?
Edu is rumored to start next to Bradley and Buddle will start next to Altidore. Don't quote me...but it has been the logical change Bradley has always done.
i really didnt think buddle did much of anything. i really wouldnt mind seeing gomez. even if he doesnt score, the kid has no fear and is active. doubt bradley does it though there comes a point where you need to stop trying to be italy and realize what you have. relying on a defense that is unreliable doesnt make a lot of sense to me.
He's lucky he made the penalty after missing the open net just before.....Never ever seen a miss that bad
Nigeria is minutes away from being the latest african failure in this world cup. better bring out the Serbian voodoo dolls.
Stick with me here but if England go through as winners and they play Ghana/Serbia on Saturday, if they win that, don't they get the winners of South Korea/Uruguay in the quarters? Same rule applies for you guys as well.
Well Africa sucks, but Europe is not too far behind...France and Greece gone today South America is on fire during this World Cup
Nigeria had at least 2 unimpeded shots on net, just shooter and net minder, and they were not even close, including a time where the goalie had fallen down and the shooter was just outside the 6 yd box. That will keep some players up late at night.
You guys dumped your black and white bars for PINK UNIFORMS in the 90's. So you lost claim to those uniforms.
And Mexico can't win in Ohio. Big F'n Deal. WE OWN YOU. Don't be embarrassed. Just get better at Futbol'. The domination is going on 21 years. Maybe in another 20 you might turn the series tide. 13-8-9. SCOREBOARD. Sorry, I have the facts on my side. Yes.."delusional".
Just think of it...if it weren't for Azteca Stadium, The record would be 13-8-3 That would be 3 mexican wins in 21 matches. Yep. American Domination.
Anyway, good luck to Mexico vs. Argentina..it will be a good match. Maybe if you can throw bags of urine, while booing the Argentinian national anthem while cheering Osama Bin Laden...(all of those things happened in a "friendly" is Azteca) then you might have a chance.
I really was hoping to see Platini play, but I do understand why he didn't. I did get to see Diego Maradona play twice in the 86 cup. Little guy was awesome to watch. IMO, he was the best player in the world at that time. Platini was very smooth, but I think he was at the end of his best days.
God that is robbery for the winner of your group. Not even fair when you think about it. Avoiding Brazil/Spain/Argentina/Germany before the semi's?
adds some difficulty when every time we take a corner kick the mexican fans throw cups full of piss at donovan. play every game in a neutral venue and mexico would rarely if ever win.
