well if latin american countries are judged by their steaks then yes all other latin american countries are inferior
Problem is, you're NOT going to attract young foreign talent. If Manchester City decided to sell Carlos Tevez, then it would be seen as a joke if one of the MLS teams said they were trying to buy him. America's best bet is to produce a team the majority of which plays for big European teams. The impact will be negative for the MLS and a fanbase because the best players will be playing abroad. But if you want to get a foothold on the world stage and get the country envigorated the way it has been then it's the way forward.
ahhh...... Bull****. I have had just as good beef in Costa Rica than Argentina. AHHHHH International Football....feeding our hatred for other peoples... Gotta love it.
I don't envision the MLS bringing over pricey foreign talent any time soon. The key for them is to develop the best of the huge US playing base for the coming years. They should strive to be at the level of the Agentine, Brazilian and Dutch leagues where they develop great talent and then sell to the EPL, La Liga and Serie A. This would prove to be a huge financial boost for the league and provide an excellent cost/benefit ratio for the developmental costs. Once this is achieved, maybe in another lifetime, they can strive to be among the best leagues in the world.
They have already started moving in that direction. But, its a matter of rival group and at the moment they send their talent overseas as its the superior group. I think the main problem with the mls, at the moment, is it doesn't have a big strong local fan base, like you would see in europe. Which is why europe has all the good players. Which is why I am saying bring over the big ones even if they are aging and the average soccer fan will have heard of them. Its of course something you can not build on in the future and keep doing if you want to be as successful. Which is why I said to a point I think its a good idea.
He's talked about that Boom. ESPN did a homecoming special with Landon and he spoke about how he loves Los Angeles and how the community has taken to him and that his wife basically asked him to stay. He disclosed that when he signed his last contract with the Galaxy for 3 million a year, he turned down an offer for 3 times the money from a "known club" that asked to not be disclosed. He said the club was insulted. Some people are like that. Donovan also makes tons in endorsements here and it supplements his income. But I agree...He would help US soccer by playing Euro Championship Football. (Qualifying team)
Agree 100% and it was your original post earlier on that I mentioned. I think in a generation's time, you will have developed sufficient home grown talent to be performing with the best teams in the 3 best leagues.
Thing is Lu, it really ISN'T moving in that direction because you have no-ne close to breaking in to the big European teams.
I don't disagree with that . I'm not saying the us is close just that I understand........ I personally would like to see it happen as I am a soccer fan and I think its a great sport. I can tell you this though boom, if you saw how the US was, in terms of fandom, from when I started watching the world cup till now, you will notice a huuuuuuuuuge difference. Its really great to see.
I've been following the websites and the newspapers closely Lu and I can see the change. That can only be a good thing.
People forget...the sport is really 20 years old (in earnest) in the US. I say...right on schedule. In about 20 years...it will be where we want it to be...guaranteed. the money is starting to flow.
Here's a little fun football quiz for you. In the very sectarian Scottish League - and without Googling it - who was the first black player in Scottish football history?
we've been playing some form of it since the time we were still an english colony. There was a time professional soccer drew more fans than football. we finished third in a world cup early in its history. america just invented sports that the average american found more interesting namely basketball, football and baseball
BTW...at 5 pm guys eastern... Philadelphia opens their new stadium vs. Seattle (MLS) The stadium has phases to take it up to 35k seats...starting at 18.5k for today's match.
uruguay, brazil and costa rica you guys are nuts. argentina breeds fantastic cattle. some of the best in the world if not the best. i havent tried uruguay or costa rica but argentinian steaks are better than brazilian from my experience and argentina's reputation in cattle is superior to that of uruguay and costa rica as far as i know
Andrew Watson...but I only know that because of black history month. he was one of the guys that was featured in the Miami Heat Black History month tribute.
No to both. Gil Scott Heron's father. Made qa documentary on it a few years back. He went on to be a referee in the days of Pele playing in NY.
On the youth develop front, the Vancouver Whitecaps are the first MLS team to possess a fully-funded, residency based youth academy. If this proves successful and Vancouver is able to sell quality players to Europe, the remainder of the league will follow suit.
I was starting to question my memory. I was beginning to think I was too drunk during that game. Which I probably was.
Yes. I was beginning to think...OMG, I need to quit drinking..I now have black history month tourrettes..just blurting out random black person's names..
Another thing US Soccer has to do is lobby harder to ensure the Guiseppe Rossi's and Neven Subotic's commit to the US rather than the countries of their heritage. There is a whole crop of players coming up, some with star potential, who have the option of playing for the US or the likes of Mexico, El Salvador an Honduras. We have to get these players into the fold.
Is it becoming common for MLS teams to get their own stadium ? I dotn really follow it that much but to me an indicator that the MLS will be here to stay is teams building infrastructure. And since this is the WC thread HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA GIRUY England (yeah I know we didnt qualify thats coz we are **** and have accepted that , as soon as the Englsh accept they are marginally above **** then they will enjoy the game a lot more but im still LOL at today )
http://www.baltimoresun.com/sports/world-cup/bal-sp-donovan-0627,0,1551178.story They seem interested at least sending scouts...
yeah they showed some life in the 2nd half, but there was only one team that got dominated today and that was not germany
Agreed. They can still have some good players who aren't in the Euro leagues but the majority need to be playing over there against that higher level of competition. However, I do think that the U.S. youth soccer programs are developing talent and the sheer numbers are going to be a factor. The irony is, that a kid has a much better chance of making a living for 10 years from age 20-30 playing soccer than he does playing pro basketball - because of the number of leagues. If soccer can begin to attract some of the American inner-city youth, it can really enhance its status.
You hardly had the ball in our half before the 3rd goal. You won and won well but let's not start changing history.
Yeah, you did get jobbed. No question - that was a clear goal. But I think we were the better team by a mile. Sure, if you score the 2:2, we have a totally different ball game but Germany was hands down the better side.
The Paucity of Morality and Integrity in FIFA is appalling. I have to go easy thinking about it or I become apoplectic. I don't think it's just money. Fowler's response on ESPN was solid: "I'll tell you why - because the referee is not in a position to judge that and someone watching on a camera is in a better position to judge that." It's about getting the call right not just a referee who often gets it wrong! Lalas on Blatter - "He believes that controversy is good for the game - publicity - more people talking about the game than they would other wise." Fowler again: "So if injustice creates more of a fuss than integrity you prefer injustice?" Exactly, it shows that FIFA and Blatter are in fact both lacking in integrity and a moral standard as well as simply full of stupidity. I would trust Blatter with a dollar, let alone the head of an international federation. I have nearly zero respect for him as a human being if this is his stance. Either he's as smart as a 7 year old or he's evil. He can choose; but there's no other alternative.
