http://mixedmartialartvideos.com/fedor-emelianenko-vs-fabricio-werdum-video-strikeforce/ Match Spoilers Spoiler Fabricio wins by Triangle Choke. My thoughts Spoiler Match reminded me alot of Lesnar vs Mir when they first fought. If they fight again Fedor wins.
i am glad the "unbeatable" aura around Fedor is gone... now if Fedor wants anyone to believe he is, or ever was the best, he has to fight current top fighters.
i dont know about that. he rocked the guy with a nice punch and just got sloppy when he went to the ground
He had a triangle and an armbar, though triangle is what did it. What shocked me last night was just how quickly the fight was over. Fedor indeed got sloppy. He got out of the first triangle/armbar and just dove right back into the danger zone. Had blinders on and just went for GNP, and ended up getting caught in the same submission seconds later. If you didn't know it was Fedor, it looked like something an inexperienced brawler does.
wow, i didnt even know the fight was on! well Fedor WAS the best. now its blown wide open. no champion in fight sports stay on top forever. it was just a matter of time. he dominated for what, 5 6, 7 years? it was a great run.
he didn't rock him at all. Werdum clearly pulled guard, which is and was the only real chance he had to win. The punch did clip him, but didn't land flush. As to the when fedor rushed in, fedor has done that several times recently, I think he really had started to believe himself as unbeatable.
You could kind of see it coming. Maybe not this fight. But the last few fights, Fedor had become predominantly a striker. For a guy who won nearly all of his fights by submission (or decision), he started knocking guys out (Tim Sylvia got knocked down quick and then gave up his back). He's always been a good striker with great GNP. Maybe it's a result of fighting much bigger guys lately (Choi, Sylvia, Rogers) who are naturally more difficult to just take down (Fedor weighed in at 229 for this fight). But I think he'd fallen too much in love with his striking lately. I think it started with Tim Sylvia. I think this loss will make Fedor better. He'll go back to basics and get those blinders off. Go back to being the guy who can do everything well. OT: Everyone had been visualizing him with Brock and such. But I've been thinking about Fedor and Cain Velasquez. I think Fedor is still a more multi-dimensional fighter, but he and Cain are very similar right now. Very sudden, devastating hands, brutal ground and pound. And they're both 'smaller' heavyweights.
Oh, and how far ahead of the game is Cris Santos? She's the Usain Bolt of women's MMA. Perhaps even more so. Nobody is in her zipcode. She supposedly has a good ground game to boot. I'd love to see it. Give credit to her opponent. She took a horrible beating and somehow kept on ticking. Finally done in by a knee to the solar plexus. Damn good card last night BTW. Good job Strikeforce/Showtime.
Personally, I can see him call it quits and do the political thing he's been wanting to do for the last couple years. The past 3 months with the retirement rumors, the show he put on last night and the fact he wants to run for office I wouldn't be shocked if he bounced.
This only cements the fact that Fedor is never coming to the UFC. That is a bummer. At the same time, I am enjoying the Schadenfreude. Ever since PRIDE folded, instead of proving himself against the top guys in the world, Fedor has fought bums and UFC cast-offs in second-rate promotions. Now the Fedor nut-huggers can't say that Fedor is the best in the world. For that, I'm happy he lost. Because in MY mind, he hasn't been the best in the world since he left PRIDE.
