That's what it sounded like to me. The commentator said the names above are world class players and he kept saying no.
"Gerard, Rooney, Terry, Lampard; these guys are not world class?" Lalas - "Nope, nope." I just rewinded it.
He was making the same argument he has made all along. He has been saying since before the group stage that England had a bad mix and an uneven collection of players to play a "together" enough game to win this tournament. he said they would win one game in the group stage and would lose in the round of 16. Yes..he seems to have a grudge against England for some reason....but his predictions in this tournament have been spot on. he has been nothing short of physic. He may be a douche..but he has been a rather prescient douche.
Yeah but any argument that says Rooney and especially Gerrard aren't world class is douchery of the highest order.
He has a grudge against Capello I believe. But he definitely has a grudge. But he did say that England's starting squad minus Green in the opening match vs. the US were all in the top 100 footballers in the world. he called them the third most talented team in the Tournament. he said that he thought Lennon was key, and that Capello was throwing darts and did not have the pulse of that team. That is basically it. But yes...you can tell he has a grudge. and yes, he is a douche.
Boom I would never say that, I respect greatness when I see it....however I question not that if Rooney is a good player, because he is, but is he as good as others make him out to be....I'm not sure...I mean of course they are all world class players....however I just didnt see elite world class with Rooney, was he injured Boom, not fit?? I dont think so, I honestly think the pressure is getting to him, the pressure he must be under to produce results in a top 5 club in the world on this stage is staggering...Results are nothing short of goals...It seems like Rooney dove alot when he got flat out depossessed, some balls when he had the advantage, he fought though...it seemed like when the situation was right for Wayne, he does okay, when he was at a disadvantage, he gave up or dove...I expected more for Rooney....European Footballer of the Year aside, this isnt Europe, this is the world stage, and maybe the world stage is too big for him to handle right now, mentality wise...in another 4 years maybe he will overcome.. Gerrard is salty, and I love him, same with Lampard...God Lampard is so good...impressed with Milner as well...Defoe as well....he grinds it.. And Boom lol, before you call me a gump, looney, blook, and ask if I watched the games, I did, everyone....for one to truely "make it" I guess is the word, he must produce on the biggest stages....even look at a kid like Podolski, he disappears for 4 years, NOTHING, comes into these Finals and shines yet again, and all is right.....doesnt make sense, although I do admire his left foot greatly....he freaking megged the keeper yeaterday classic...
Absolutely delighted! But then again I was delighted when Diego came and he never came close to expectations. I can't lie though, I haven't seen much of Dzeko. Most of what I've seen has been from Youtube and highlights here and there. But with how highly some tout him and with the interest many of the big clubs have in him, I'm very happy Juventus is trying to right the ship and they're showing interest.
Yes, Robben. He's got the one money move (going inside, getting the ball to his left foot, then shoot) and it's a brilliant move but it's all he's got. Just watch the CL finale where Inter double teamed him on the inside and made him go down the sideline. Defend that one move and you've defended Robben.
I agree on Gerrard and Rooney (though Rooney was clearly exhausted by too many games). Terry, on the other hand, hasn't been world class in years and probably never was. I actually feel bad for Gerrard. His one gaffe was being born in the same generation Lampart was.
I got my last two wisdom teeth pulled today, when I got back I heard Lalas say this and amazingly the pain went away for about 5 minutes as all my hatred was focused on this clown. He needs to follow Eric Wynalda (went to my high school) off the air.
I think that's the beauty of Robben, if he indeed has that one money move (which I don't believe) the defender has to know it's coming and yet they still can't defend it. The Dutch will give Brazil something to think about. It'll be interesting. I'd almost put Kuyt up top, with Elia (sp? he looks fantastic every time he comes on as a sub), Snejder and Robben. I'm not that high on Van Persie as a striker up top.
I wouldn't be surprised to see Rooney go but it would sure make RM loaded at forward. SAF tried to lure Benzema last year but to no avail so I wouldn't be surprised to see some kind of swap. What is beyond fact is the Glazer's have destroyed United's finances and they're using United's earning potential to off-set the losses they are encurring on their countless malls. I wouldn't be surprised to see United one day go the route of Leeds.
arent they too big of a brand to do that? i bet they will sell the bucs before that or their financial situation is being overblown
anyone happen to catch espn's sportscience segment on penalty kicks a couple of days ago? they showed that based on reaction time, distance and ball speed, it is physically impossible for a keeper to react to the direction of the ball as it is kicked. physically, it is little more than having to commit early and then if the ball is kicked to where you guess, reacting to the ball in the air it was compared to hitting a baseball and the hitter being able to read the ball whereas the keeper has to essentially swing before the ball is pitched
Oh, I agree. It's like Groundhog Day. But just go ahead and take a look at the games where the opponent actually made a tactical effort to defend that money move - the CL final or the Bundesliga game against Eintracht Frankfurt, for instance - and you'll see how easy it is to take Robben out of a match. I'm not saying that Robben is a bad player, by the way. He isn't. But if you take away the one move, you've defended him. He's simply not particularly good when he has to go down the sideline and cross the ball. Inter allowed him to do just that all match long and he was utterly inefficient.
I think Robben's a really goo player when fit. He's been magic at times this past season for Bayern. And yep, you defend that one thing but defenders CAN'T do it.
Lampard is awful. One of the most overrated players in the modern game. Listen, I could give two ****s about Wayne Rooney - he plays for the Mancs and I'm a Liverpool fan. But would you say that because of a bad tournament, Frank Ribery isn't world class? Or because he's done nothing, Kaka isn't world class? Or because he's got 4 goals and played well, Slovakia's Robert Vittek MUST be world class. The fact that he didn't score a goal in 10 qualifying games for Slovakia means nothing, right? By your argument, Lukas Podolski is world class, even though he disappears for 4 years between tournaments? You know what good managers say? NEVER buy a player off of their form at a World Cup. And they're right.
And the same can be said for Messi to he didnt score, however the "little man" (btw why do they call him that, kinda negative) is all over the field, doing what he does best, impressive Messi has been.......I hear ya....Boom they are all world class, every single player, even Song hahaha.....then there is just a different level of world class, that has the likes of Fabiano, Messi, Tevez, Klose etc etc etc...dudes that just turn it up, and know how to turn it up in the grandest of stages.....for whatever reason Rooney hasnt done that...which to me is a disappointment cuz he is a bad *** dude.... To counter you point, can a guy really be considered elite class if he tears it up on the club level, then does nothing on the nat'l world level?? At that point I liken it to a guy like A-Rod(before last year) in baseball who fattens up on the avg pitching all season long for amazing stats, and then when the playoffs start and the big boys start pitching, he lays a goose egg, and does nothing...A-Rod, Boom was a best hitter in baseball for a considerable amount of time, but got the label as not being clutch, cuz he didnt do it in the playoffs, and world series....ditto about Manning too, before his SB win... Lastly I'd take Lampard bro in the US team anyday...
The reasons are pretty simple: He's played way too many games and he got little to no support from his squad. Rooney needs some space up front; alas, there's quite simply no one around to create that space. I don't think I have seen a slower team in this World Cup. Couple that with the fact that Rooney himself has been slowed down by nagging injuries and exhaustion and you've got a problem. Unfortunately for England, Beckenbauer has been perfectly right. They're miles away from what a modern football team ought to look like with the Lampards and Ashley Coles. And Rooney pays the price.
Arsenal closing in on Laurent Koscielny. I'm rather pleased, though I think we need one more. Let's sign a midfielder and a goal keeper now. Blaise Matuidi or Moussa Sissoko in the midfleld now and I'll be happy.
I actually think Messi has been solid. He doesn't have to score for Brazil to be good; even before yesterday's great set up he has been a threat and part of the movement forward for them. The Dutch and Brazil - what a game. Should probably be a Semi rather than a Quarter but I think it will be a great match up though I'd favor Brazil b/c the Dutch D looked shaky. However, in one game, anything can happen. Same thing with Germany-Argentina (I would favor the Argentines but in one game, anything goes). I'm over-the-top excited about the Spain-Portugal match up and the possibility of one (hopefully Spain) eventually meeting Argentina. Doesn't look great for Spain's Xabi Alonso, however, and he is a key cog in their offensive development. You never know how one player can turn the tide - and injuries have had a big impact on this World Cup.
have to say this japan/ paraguay game is highly entertaining. not the greatest skill but end to end hustle. i am really enjoying the japanese hustle and grit
You really believe that Boom? I know there's a little rivalry in England amongst the Chelsea and Liverpool fan on who is better between Lampard and Gerrard. And granted, I think Gerrard is clearly the better player, but NO WAY is Lampard terrible! Slightly overrated, maybe, but terrible, heck no. You don't go deep into the CL and win 3 EPL titles when your best player, the staple of their offense for the past 5 years being overrated.
“We want to keep football as a game of the people with a human face, so we don’t want technology on the field of play because we want to maintain the spontaneity of football — played, administered and controlled by human beings,” - Sepp Blatter
I saw this as well. They measured the time it takes to kick the ball across the line (of course, a soft kick is different) and the goalie has to guess. If he waits to see where the ball is going the time it takes for the brain to process everything in the brain and react to a ball kicked to one side or another would make it impossible to save if the goalie waits to react and the ball is kicked to one side or another - at a speed of an average professional penalty kick. A favorite move I like to see but often isn't used (from the kicker's perspective) is to kick it straight at the goalie - down the middle and high (try to hit the back cross bar). Beckham has done this a couple of times in key moments.
You are confusing players... Messi is the midget that plays for the Malbec drinking churrasco eaters in Argentina.
Why are they giving all the cards to Japan? Two unintentional handballs get yellow cards, but not handballs by paraguay. A clear elbow to the head gets nothing though. Fifa refs in general are shady and confusing.
