i have a problem, its been happening not often, but it has before. Ill put in a bluray and it will switch between preview or something and it will show "no signal" on my tv and never go back to the blu ray movie.

so ill turn it off and turn it back on and it will usually work.

now here is the main issue. now i have no bluray/game/dvd or anything in the ps3, its empty....and i turn it on via controller and the ps3 screen doesnt show up. its just a black screen. and no matter what i do (turn it off in the back, hold it down till it beeps twice) anything....it doesnt work. when its happened before i wont touch it over the night.......the next day if i wanna play ill turn it on, and its fine.....so i dunno wtf it is and what it means.

if anyone knows, please help! Thanks!

Have you checked to make sure the hdmi cable, hdmi port on the TV, or the HDMI port on the PS3 are all working correctly? It seems like a video problem.

If you aren't using an hdmi connection just do the same with whatever you are using.

Well sometimes HDMI cables and ports get all screwy. For instance my 360 didn't work with HDMI on my old TV but does my new one...so go figure.

Alright so you've used two separate HDMI cables on the PS3 it seems. Have you tried plugging the PS3 into a different HDMI port? For instance say the PS3 is hooked up to HDMI port 2 have you ever tried it in HDMI port 1, 3, 4, etc.? You've already eliminated the HDMI cable from being the likely problem so now check the ports and if that's not it then you'll know it's the PS3.

Maybe someone else has had this problem and it isn't the HDMI at all but this is my two cents. :D

yup ive tried that. i unplugged the directv hdmi from the reciver and plugged it into the ps3 (directv hdmi is plugged into a different port) so thats not the issue. it sucks!

Seems like the PS3 is the problem. To make sure it's the PS3's HDMI port have you tried hooking the PS3 up via A/V cables, YPbPr, etc.? If it's just the HDMI port then you can look for help from there. I'll be happy to keep assisting with that too if someone else doesn't already know the fix. Yes I'm that nerdy.

Oh and other devices work correctly on the port your PS3 is currently on? For example plug the directv's hdmi cable in the port you usally use your PS3 on and see if the directv works. I'm sure you've already tried this but still I thought I'd throw it out there.

Could be a problem with the HDMI handshake. Basically, when an HDMI connection is made between two devices, they verify each other and agree that the connection seems legitimate and that there isn't anything weird or unexpected going on. That's called the handshake. It's basically an anti-piracy measure and it's part of the "HDCP" in "HDMI-HDCP."

Shut the PS3 off (indicated by a single red light on the front of the console) and turn the TV on, setting it to whatever input the PS3 is connected to. Hold the power button on the PS3 until it beeps twice, which usually takes about five seconds. This should reset everything on the PS3's end and it'll boot up with default video settings. You can then reconfigure everything to your liking.

If that doesn't work, don't know what to tell you. Give Sony a call, I suppose.

maybe it is no longer set to HDMI, try hooking it up with the Red yellow and white plugs as well as the hdmi and flip through the different inputs on your tv to see if it atleast has a video output some way.

Yea, definitely sounds like a handshake issue to me. Could be the HDMI board on the tv/AVR could be going bad. My Onkyo 876 had to be sent back in for warranty work because the board with the HDMI connections went bad (had serious handshake issues before it just went out completely), but I've had 0 problems since getting it back.

I've been having issues with random blurays not playing. Can't figure it out, majority play just fine, but a get a random one that will not play, goes to load up but then doesn' play. Anyone heard of that happening. Called sony but they said I should ship it to them, don't want to pay 150 to get it fixed when it plays the majority of blurays I rent or buy.

Sounds like a blu-ray problem. I can give you some things to check and see if they work but it will be a bit lengthy lol. I'll gladly help you out though.

I had a similar problem last year and fixed it...but I had to replace the laser.

it works now and when the screen came up it had the "we found a new set up (1080) would you like to connect? if you dont choose in 40 seconds it will go back to previous settings"

so iam assuming it was the handshake thing for the hdmi

    PS2 didn't use HDMI-HDCP.

If you can use the composite cables (red/white/yellow) but not HDMI then it's a handshake issue, same as before. Try connecting both the composite cables and the HDMI cable at the same time, and booting up the PS3. It should default to the composite cables. Then go into the display options and re-enable the HD resolutions. It should switch over to the HDMI cable.

This generally happens when the HDMI cable is shifted around in the slot on either the device output end or the TV end, and the devices think the connection has been tampered with. Yeah, it's a pain in the ***: blame the movie studios' paranoid fear of piracy.
