well it is exciting but i'm against the shootout. i would prefer giving teams additional substitutions in overtime. seems like a cheap way to advance

Its not only exciting...far more then the less then exciting actual play....best part is that no REFS can screw it up with crap calls and cards......its kicker vs. goalie.

Goat vs Hero...best way to find a winner.

true but it sucks in hockey and i feel it sucks here. it seems it has more to do with luck than skill

Love it every time to bring an end to a game. Love it.

Luck? Meaning the inability to hit the back of the net vs the crossbar?? shame for Japan and Komano...oh well...needed more luck then.

Yes.....although when it comes to football NFL or NCAA I wish they would simply play regular style (kickoff, full downs, etc) and only end it once both teams possess the ball (via turnover or whatever) and then let the following score win (or stop following your score, etc).

But ultimately, yes, I like shootouts, sudden death, in these time based sports especially with limited action. Basketball with quick scoring back and forth is ok with simple shorter period continuation, etc.

The best sport is Baseball as no clock dictates action or finite limit, etc.

well i hate it in hockey and since soccer is basically hockey on land without sticks, i am opposed to it in soccer also. there is nothing more exciting than playoff hockey in the third overtime when both teams are exhausted. shootouts dont even come close

Yes they do....it was very exciting to witness the goat! every sport is ultimately decided by it (hero vs goat....the hockey and soccer shootouts produce it quicker. heck, at least in soccer it brings it to a faster end with nothing but drama and action; (soccer is slower with bigger playing area then speed of Hockey and rink, etc) at least the shootout brought the scoreless game to its ultimate desire..a proper end with a victor and a loser. next!:pointlol:

from the limited moments I've seen of him at this world cup, he has been rather ordinary. When you go back and look at the history of Holland and the forwards they've had up top, Bergkamp and van Nistelrooy, I don't think Persie has been in that top echelon. Again, just speaking about his world cup thus far. Perhaps coming back from the injury has had something to do with that Alen. You should know Mr Arsenal... :wink2:

Sad to see Japan lose to be honest. I liked their style of play. Honda is incredible, the Japanese Ronaldo. Shame to go to PK's and see neither goalie make a save. Had a feeling that little Japanese player was going to miss. Paraguay will get throttled vs either Spain or Portugal. Hope that game sees a few goals (i bet the over).

I am on alot of Contact lists for sports teams..and Newcastle United is one of them for some reason (I bought a jersey...that seems to be how it happened)

But they sent me a Season ticket price list...

They have really reasonable prices...unbelievable really.

Oh absolutely. He's found out at international level. Can't play in a regular 4-4-2 because he never crosses his own half way line at Chelsea. Plays at the top of the diamond and so scores more goals. He's a London media darling. Good player but nowhere close to what people think.

Alen...Richards is a good player but needs a change of scenery and something og a career resurrection.

Prices are cheap because of location. Newcastle is very poor working class area, former mining country. Hence cheap prices.

So If I took a "Football vacation" to England to watch EPL football, St. James park would not be on a list of places to visit?

    No good pubs and ambiance?

Refs can still **** up. Goalies going forward, balls on the line, etc.

Its cool when you're a neutral or when you win, but when you lose and deserved to win throughout the whole match, then its unfair

On the contrary, it'd be on the must visit list. 52,000 screaming Geordies is a sight to behold and St James's is a terrific stadium.

Cristiano Ronaldo is such a pompous and condescending jackass.

If that guy tried to help me up after fouling me and getting away with it...I would punch him in the junk.

Portugal got what they deserved. Again a team gets 11 behind the ball and says to Spain 'beat us'. And they did.

Portugal had their chances in the first half. None really in the 2nd though.

Spain played well and deserved it.

A lot of playacting (i think that's been the term used by the ESPN/ABC announcers) by the Spanish though.

Who do you have as the top 4 in the Tablet for the EPL this season? Give me a bottom of the tablet team that can surprise.

    Interested in your opinion.

Spain looked dangerous to me. They've improved from rd 1 early games where they looked a bit disorganized. I had them winning it all and they look like they are a final four no problem

In no particular order it will be the two Manchester clubs, Arsenal and Chelsea. A bottom of the table team? Tough because it's so hard to crack that upper echelon. Be interesting to see what Newcastle do.

Thanks Boom...adds a little perspective. Trying to place a informed futures bet.

Liverpool is a favorite on Bodog over Arsenal for Aug. 14, BTW.

BTW...for you MLS junkies...US Open Cup starts tonight..Miami FC gets their brains bashed in by Houston of the MLS tonight.

Nope. But I've been playing goalkeeper for over 20 years and I've saved penalties that are ostensibly impossible to save.

Too bad I'm not English. I'd play in the national team by now and be a millionaire. And I'm only half joking.

My pick earlier today as well. I still got Germany as a darkhorse but I can't really see us advancing past Spain in the semi. Gotta hope for Paraguay.

How about that classless punk Ronaldo spitting at the camera after the game ended? Glad Spain won... would have liked a few more goals :shifty:

I believe I picked 7 of 8 games correctly using my head (not my heart)...

    Ghana vs Brasil
    Argentina vs Spain coming...
