My dad was a fan and used to tell me tales of that crazy brand of Canadian Football..no fair catches and back in the day they would play 2 games in the Grey Cup..highest point total took the title IIRC..

Now, after watching a season of poor UFL play, I'll try to catch CFL games online until the NFL season begins..even then..Friday Night CFL games..

Mike Lombardi speculates a CFL future for Russell

Lombardi the ex Raiders player personnel man is normally a bit more logical than this, Jemarcus Russell's CFL rabbi is Mark Trestman of the Alouettes, he has become something of a Qb guru and was seriously considered for the Raiders job this offseason, he also worked with Tim Tebow prior to the draft.

Besides, fat and uninspired works as poorly in the CFL as it does in the NFL.

As it turns out, the Dolphins were interested in Wilfred Laurier's Chima Ihekwoaba:

    http://www.detnews.com/article/2010...-DE-takes-aim-at-rare-jump-from-Canada-to-NFL

Dolphins, Steelers and Lions, to me it is a bit surprising that he choose the Lions over the Dolphins as both teams needed help at DE/OLB.

Mike Lombardi is still on JeMarcus Russel to the CFL:

Russell's CFL rights are retained by the Hamilton TiCats and they are set at Qb, his best bet would be the Allouettes with his ex Qb Coach Mark Trestman as the Head Coach, the problem is if he was unmotivated enough to take his job in the NFL seriously even with Millions on the table, why would he suddenly take a shot in the CFL with 100k on the table if he is lucky?

Dude has UFL written all over him, and even then imho it will be 2 yrs from now, once his money has dwindled down from visiting Las Vegas and putting his boys on "Scholarship".

As the old proverb says "experience is the teacher of fools"

Taylor was a top notch returner in Montreal, of course Jest fans being Troglodytes they have no clue, but with McKnight McYakking, who knows with Taylor?

Question: Why don't more NFL teams sign/work out defensive backs from the CFL? Is the CFL talent tier that much lower?

Well, there are a couple that filter down to the NFL, Joe Hefney is in Detroit this year along with Ihekwoaba.

The CFL has very different coverage schemes as the league is designed to facilitate passing, Wr can run towards the LoS before the snap, the wider field calls for smaller, faster Cb's who maybe couldn't stand up to the NFL pounding.

The CFL is also more about Zone coverages with as many as 6 Wr's going out in patterns and the Db's are more there to prevent long plays than to be shut down Cb's.

BC leos signed ex Hurricane Anthony Reddick

Argos signed ex Cane Ken Dorsey

BC has Abraham Wright from our 07 draft and the DC is talking him up a bit.

Personally I like Wawke, but Abe apparently has a good shot at making the club.

Yep 6 wide, in the CFL they play 4 man rush Dlines all of the time which spotlights the DE's ability to get after the passer as CFL Left Tackles are not NFL caliber for the most part, not bagging on them, but the CFL game is more about DE speed vs Qb getting the ball out quickly with the LT more of a speed bump, a good CFL LT makes large money for the league, maybe 300k.

You seriously can see a 4-8 defense in the CFL.

Wanny would not last 3 seconds on a CFL staff, play base 4-3-5 and you will get killed.

The CFL is also big on 'bandit' or "rover' style safety/Lb's, now they could make the jump the NFL as they have to both tackle well and cover and are expected to create turnovers..they go maybe 6'1 210 or so, maybe lighter.

Preseason kicks off this weekend with several Qb slots open around the CFL from Winnipeg to Hamilton.

A good Brent Johnson interview about the state of the Leos defense:

http://bclions.com/uploads/assets/B...iday - Brent Johnson with Rick and Giulio.mp3

He doesn't think Chris Simpson/Cam Wake/Ricky Foley signings by the NFL has reached prospects passed over by the NFL talent acquisition system.

Which is a misread imho, Domini Pittman and Stanley Wakwe both signed in the CFL just based on Wake signing in Miami.

CFL preseason is officially over, now all that is left is cut down day, and then Opening Day on 7/1.

BC shockingly still needs a KR.

Nice, I have not yet found a reliable streaming source for CFL games as the preseason is not typically televised, but I have been playing around with PC Show Buzz which purports to offer streaming channels of CFL games.

And I suspect MyP2P will have them.

My Leos are opening the season with 5 Olinemen with 4 CFL starts between them, the Blue Bombers are recycling Buck Pearce at Qb...dude is a china doll in terms of toughness.

Sask added Shomari Williams (whom I do not like) to replace either Chick or Baggs, the Alous will be without McPherson who is out with a ACL and Hamilton appears to be on the rise.

Stamps lost every player from their Oline, from Tsoumpas to Newman so Huffnagel's run of luck with his NI Oline appears to have run out, Esks added Kelly Campbell..sooner or later..and the Argos are in limbo..I suspect they will be a very poor team this year.

For casual CFL fans, the Saskatchewan Rough Riders are the Jets of the CFL, in 100 yrs of CFL football..not a single Grey Cup...but their fans are obnoxious.

    Top NFL prospects:

Manny Arceneaux, Adarius Bowman, Phil Hunt.

And Mark Trestman, Head Coach of the Montreal Alouettes, the man is phenom in the CFL and is bound for the NFL as a Head Coach sooner or later, he is a sort of Bill Walsh of the CF in that his offense is simply that advanced which is why JaMarcus Russel and Tim Tebow sought him out as a Qb Coach.

Not true. Saskatchewan had won 3 Grey Cups. 1966, 1989 and 2007.
You are right about Trestman's CFL coaching prowess, remember when he was with the Dolphins......

Also Padre, I'm pretty sure you can watch all regular season games live on TSN.ca. At least you can in Canada. Not sure if you will be able to stream them down there.
I assume TSN is not part of any cable packages in the U.S.? Every single CFL game is on TSN.

Yeah, that is correct, but I'd thought I'd read they hadn't won one in like 90 yrs?

Yeah the dude is good at his job, and the NFL or maybe UFL will offer him more than the Alous really can to be a HC, though he is said to really like the situation in Montreal.

I think they changed that for this year, you can watch the replay of the game right after the game?

I do know being a BC fan that is impossible as their games do not finish until 12pm or later ECT, so I'll have to dig around for a stream.

I like Winnipeg as well, but it's an 8 team league..come on man..:D

Please note: Live streaming of games is not available in Canada. However, all games are available ON DEMAND at TSN.ca shortly following the conclusion of the game. Please note that our 2010 webcast schedule will be available soon.

    Alou's lose to the Leos...:D

Edmonton has quietly gotten very good under Rich Hall, they are my darkhorse to unseat Montreal.

I think Calgary falls off, they rely on their Oline so heavily to open holes for Reynolds that losing the whole unit will hurt them.

My Leos...I honestly do not know, new Oline, new Lb Corps, which Casey Printers shows up?

Bro, I'm just happy there will be actual...live game football..to watch and that I'm invested in as a fan..and I don't have to wait until August to watch it.

Hard to tell with Hamilton, Otis Floyd is ancient by CFL standards.

Yeah I can't wait for Thursday. It's so fun being a CFL fan. It really bridges the gap until the NFL get going.
I hear ya about Floyd, but I have a gut feeling about Hamilton. I could be way wrong. That's why they are only my darkhorse.

So far the Montreal v Sask game is quite good, and I suspect #1 overall Shomari Williams is learning that playing in the CFL talent is a bit different than he thought it would be...he he he..:D
