That's definatley true. I think Klose had three and Podolski two goals during the last regular season (which has 34 games!!). So they were pathetic and most of us couldn't understand that Löw invited them to the national team. But he certainly did the right thing :)

Thanks for the Nazi jokes btw. Our sad and horrible past will probably always be the first thing people think of when it comes to Germany.

this is the world cup IMO. Germany and Spain are the two best teams left and whoever wins should win it all. The young German team has played beautiful disciplined team soccer. I think Spain is more dangerous but Germany has played better team ball

They have a history of complicating superior opponents but they had to go a playoff system to even qualify for the world cup .They were the 5th ranked team of the South American qualifiers.

They have won two world cups already, not bad for a country that has a population of 3 1/2 million people .

They are dangerous when opposing teams minimize or overlook them .

Holland is another small country which has surprised too .

I would love to see one of those underdogs win it all but I am guessing Germany will be the champ .Spain has been underwhelming but could be saving the best for last.

i think spain has looked underwhelming because they faced the two best defensive teams in the world cup the last two games; portugal and paraguay who had given up a mcombined one goal prior to playing spain (paraguay's being their first game in rd 1) spain is actually going to have an easier time against germany's defense and should score at least two goals. meanwhile germany was able to get the go ahead goal early and with their lethal counter attack were able too pile it on. germany is not as good as it has looked and spain is better than it has looked. still, its going to come down to who gets the first goal since that usually determines the winner

Certainly, given the way a football game can go, any of the four could win it all. That said, I think the German-Spain semi-final could be the final. If the semis were seeded - I'd have Spain V Uruguay / Ned V Germany.

It would be shocking if the undermanned Uruguayans got past the Dutch. But, as CrunchTime noted - getting to the semis (and having two WC titles) for a nation of 3.5 million (vast majority of them in one city - Montevideo) is incredible. Imagine trying to field a team solely from the state of Connecticut to compete against the rest of the world? Even if soccer is the only sport the Uruguayans care about, that is an amazing result!

Holland hasn't sparkled ....yet ... they have been extremely effecient though and have not lost or drawn . 24 wins in a row , that is not done with smoke and mirrors :)

Oranje! Go Netherlands, they've never won the world cup before so you gotta cheer for them. Plus they have those bad*ss bright orange jerseys that remind me of the Dolphins undefeated orange jerseys. Oh and I picked them to win before the cup started.

Not so much, if anything I also think of those huge Steins of Beer, Brats, Goethe etc.

Uruguay is holding their own so far even without Suarez.

For starters, it's lacking Bastian Schweinsteiger who, so far, has been the best player in this tournament. And I'm not saying this because he's German. It's actually not even close.

You said for starters....what else is wrong with the team?

I thought about him as well...best player in this tournament? He was terrible versus England. He had issues versus Ghana. he has been good..but best player in the tournament?
