They just did a piece on the NFL Power Rankins as part of NFL Live with Trey Wingo and Golic. They had Miami listed as the 11th best team in the NFL.....I think the Pats were 9th? I believe the Jets are in the top 8, but they haven't shown those teams yet. Wingo asked Golic which team is ranked a little too high, and he said, "The Miami Dolphins at #11, as we don't know if Henne is a top QB yet." Screw him......we don't know if your Weight Watchers is working for you either Golic.

Golic has no love for the fins since shula cut his *** in 95.

Golic is 100% correct. Until henne shows the improvement that we all think he will, there's zero reason to rank us anywhere near #10.

Then Trey Wingo (sounds like something you would order in a sport's bar) has to chime in, "I could make a good argument the Phins are the third best team in their division." REALLY TREY???? I could make the argument we will go 11-5 and win the division like we did two years ago.

There are a lotta good variables {too many to list} going into the grooming and success of Chad Henne, put that together with the best arm in the game?, I like his chances..

By that same logic how can the Jets be so high? Sanchez may be talented, blah blah blah, but who knows if he'll get better.

Yeah they made the AFC Champ. game last year, by virtue of 2 teams mailing in the regular season games and the kickers for Cincy and SD pissin' down their own legs.

I think there are legit questions concerning how good Henne will be. I just think that the increasingly consistent flashes he's shown make it much more likely than not that he'll be at least a good QB.

The media is slurping all over the Jets. I was reading a preseason magazine (can't remember which one) and they had the NY Jets and Dallas Cowboys playing in the Superbowl. The two teams I hate the most. I just am not seeing this. Sanchez hasn't done anything.

I love all the attention given to the Jets, give the Jets the spotlight, get there fans hopes as high as possible, raise your expectations to super bowls and a new dynasty. So come week three when we kick the living $#!+ out of them the fans can fall into a deep depression and all the biased pundits can try to pry a foot out of their mouth's.

If ifs and buts were candy and nuts, we'd all have a merry Christmas indeed. All this stuff means squat, that is why they actually play the games.

But at this point in the dog days of Summer, we'll take any news we can get, good, bad, or indifferent. Thanks!

I agree. The point Golic made is completely valid and Henne truly is an unknown at this time. That doesn't mean he won't have the breakout year that many of us think he will, but what he said makes a lot of sense. If this team is going anywhere this season, it'll be on Henne's shoulders because the D probably won't hold up thruout the playoffs.

In the same breath, it should also apply to the jests. While they are certainly a better D team than ours is, they also are operating under the assumption that Sanchez will play like the Sanchez of the first 10 games, not the Sanchez of the last 9-10 games (including and especially the playoff games).

I love how they say "give to much respect to". the dolphins should be renamed the Miami dangerfields. Even if the fins were to win the Sb the year after on the power rankings we would still be in the teens :headwall:. These guys are not journalists or commentators, they are retired NFL players who are tiring to relive their glory days, biased as can be, and wrong as well. The only thing the fins can do is play and all we can do is rub everyone's face in it when the fins win.

It's extremely simple. The Jets made it to the AFC Championship despite their QB play. If we are to make it to the AFC Championship this season, it's because of our QB play. They have a proven, very good defense that carries that team. Better than ours until we prove otherwise.

as true today as yesterday, be it as it may...

the pundits can predict or say anything they'd like
our detractors can spew forth whatever prediction
but there will be a price for swimming w/the Dolphins in 2010
by the time they figure out that Flipper is a KillerWhale
it will be too late, the brutality of the Orca will prevail

this is much more than just about Chad Henne

Heck i wish they would rank us 32nd. This team loves being the underdog.... we lost games last year becuase even Henne admitted we overlooked a few teams. We have to play with a chip on our shoulder! I loved 08 for that one reason! There were haters then they were all kissing our butts at the end of the season...then ed reed had 4 interceptions. LOL

I'm as big a homer on this site as anyone, but do you really think Golic was that far off in his analysis ?? I don't. I think a #11 ranking (not that these rankings mean much anyways) is a bit generous. What Golic said is very, very true....as Henne goes, so goes the Fins....

The D is in a rebuilding mode since we don't know squat about who our FS, OLBs or one of the ILBs will be. Crowder has obvious weaknesses in pass coverage and will he be healthy enough. A Lis Franc is a tough injury to come back from. Was Dansby an upgrade for Ayodele (which you or I could probably have qualified there) or is he to take Crowder's spot and Crowder moves over ?? We don't know. Who are our OLBs going to be ?? A rookie, who might be very, very good (Misi) but we don't know yet. A seven year journeyman veteran who hasn't been able to wrest a starting role for 3 yrs here in Anderson ?? An ex-Canadian football DE who excels at rushing the passer, but arguably has really only one move and his speed and has no clue in the run stopping or the pass coverage parts of his responsibilities ?? Then who is going to fill in for Fergy ?? A converted DE in Starks or the yet unknown mountain of a man in Soliai ?? Is Merling going to actually progress from last season or remain stagnant ?? This D has issues that have to be resolved and until the bullets fly, we just don't know for sure.

The offense will have to carry the team this coming year. Marshall is a great addition, but who is the speed guy on the outside to counter him ?? Maybe Hartline, but he certainly doesn't have elite speed. Is Fasano going to wake up out of the fog he was in last season ?? Who's the second TE ?? Are Brown and Cobbs going to be as effective as needed coming back from their injuries. Is this years' version of the revamped interior OL going to finally be the one that is right ?? Really, name our guards ??

Golic was spot on...ex-player, journalist or guy off the street....

Hmmmm...bit harsh...he knows more about football than you give him credit for. He likes to think he's 'funny' but he makes good points. Maybe he can't back them up like Jaws and Gruden on film, but he makes a lot of valid points. Whether you like him or not, what he said about the Fins isn't too far off...

I didn't say he was far off, or that he wasn't smart, or that he didn't make valid points, or even that I didn't like him - I said he was a "world-class boob." And that statement I stand behind.

Isn't ranking us 11th the Pats 9th and the Jets in the top 8 already making that argument?

We were 7-9 last year. I thought it was generous. We could be better but not until we at least show it.

It's so slow, I'm more interested to find out how Unga did at his pro day (and a little ashamed to even know that today is his pro day).

I completely agree with this statement. Well said.

As far as the comment about us potentially being the third best team in our division, I also believe it to be a fair comment. Until we prove otherwise, I actually think we are. That's not to say we aren't a strong team, but we are in a tough division. It reminds me a bit of the AL east in baseball. For a good part of the season, the ESPN power rankings had the Yankees, Red Sox and Rays 1,2, and 3. That wasn't just a ranking of the AL East but of all of major league baseball. Face it, we are in a division with some talent. The difference is that I think we realize that the difference between 1 and 3 in our division is much closer then some of the analysts think. I guess we shall see in a couple of months. I can't wait!

He is right, yet the Jets are ranked in the top 8, probably top 5 with an unproven QB as well. Their defense can only take them so far, and if Sanchez doesn't improve or has a "sophomore slump" they aren't going anywhere. They probably won't have the luck of playing two teams in weeks 16 and 17 that didn't come to play since they were locked into playoff spots.

He better be consistent and say the Jets are too high for the same reason.

Why would ESPN hire guys that were known to be biased against certain teams then? Dolphins fans watch ESPN too, it wouldn't be fair to them to have to watch a show that has a guy who holds bitter feelings against the Dolphins.

But then again ESPN hates anything Dolphins, or so I've read over the years.
