Now on the NFL website there is a poll in the bottom right hand side, to which of these three Qb's is most poised for a breakout year? Now I didn't pay much attention to flacco and Ryan last year so I can't really pick, oh wait yes I can, Henne. Jk But really I know Flacco has a good arm and now anquan boldin and matt ryan has tony gonzales and is nick named matty ice. But to me this is simple, it has to be Henne and not just because of my terminal Homer-i-tus. Henne did not really play his first year, but he was mentored by Chad p. This past year, his "second" year but his first year of starting we got a glimpse of a diamond in the rough. But this diamond only had a little dirt on it and needed some polishing. Yes he threw some ugly ints and threw rockets from 3 yrds away, but he is a hard worker and I'm sure he can hone his skills over training camp. He has an improved line, ronnie back even though there are some questions there, oh and BRANDON MARSHALL. I really do not need to go into B-Marsh, because if he can make Kyle Orton look good, I'm waiting to see how Henne to Marshall works out. Now I know Joe Flacco and Matt Ryan are great Qb's but they are already proven, or atleast more than chad, some I have to go with him because to me he has more room to grow.

I know that was long, but I'm bored and there really is nothing out there. So let me hear your opinions.

Obviously I think Chad Henne is going to have a breakout year. Sure the others will probably play well but I believe Henne is the one to shine out from the rest of them.

Good idea for a thread, there is more history on Flacco and Ryan, they started their rookie seasons, so both are ahead of Henne in NFL experience. Thus as far as breakout seasons, seems to me Ryan really had his in his rookie season, Had Gonzales last season and still regressed. Flacco has shown strong abilities but really this could be a breakout year for him as well. Henne SHOULD have his breakout season with the experience, being the starter day one in TC and with Air Marshall.

In some ways this reminds me of the draft class of 1983 when Marino, Elway and Jim Kelly were all 3 in the same draft class. Wouldn't it be incredible if Ryan, Flacco and Henne measured up even close to those three of '83? Only this time the Dolphins put the right team around Henne and win some Super Bowls a la Elway! Flacco could lose four like Kelly and Ryan could be the Marino-esque QB who makes the HOF but never wins the big game.

I could live with that scenario!

As long as Chad Henne wins a few Super Bowls and goes in the HOF then I don't care about the others. Good post.

These guys are all talented, could be the next Marino/Kelly/Elway trifecta of QBs.

So far Flacco has looked the best to me,still want to se what Henne can do with more weapons and thanks for not bringing Sanchez into the mix.

The difference between these three is simple. The Falcons and Ravens have better teams surrounding their QBs, particularly defensive teams. The respective D's and decent running games have protected Flacco and Ryan. Henne's D let him down last season, no doubt. One other subtle difference between the guys is that the other two have had two full seasons as the unquestioned starters. The respective offense's were built around them (yes, I know Flacco technically didn't have full rookie season, but the offense, nonetheless was built for him even tho he wasn't the projected starter at the beginning of the season). Henne took over for Penny, but the scheme of the offense was built around Penny's strengths, not Henne's. This year, Henne will have the same benefit as those other guys and it's really up to him as to whether or not he has that 'breakout' year or not. There will always be comparisons between theses guys, along with Brohm, Josh Johnson, and Andre Woodson... No matter how it turns out, it'll be fun to watch...

I'm sorry but I just can't implore myself to get on either QB's bandwagon. To me Flacco and Ryan are two peas on a pod. Below is two years of work and is in no way pointing towards a Dan Marino, John Elway, Joe Montana type of career imho.

    Matt Ryan - 38 TD's and 25 INT's rating of 84.3

    Joe Flacco - 35 TD's and 24 INT's rating of 84.9

Both have had good teams to work with and both have been given more weapons for the upcoming season. This is esp. true with Flacco and I will also state that Flacco seems to be a much more accurate QB than Ryan but time will tell on both of these guys.

My hope and desire for Henne far outweigh these two and I will be very disappointed if he only rises to their level of play!

Henne has more room for improvement, so he will be the 'most improved' out of the three. However, I think Flacco is the best QB in that bunch at the moment.

Matt Ryan, IMHO, looks like another Drew Bledsoe. He's a guy with all the physical tools, but he seems like a 'Plan-B' type of QB to me. A guy who will consistently put up 'good enough' numbers, but also a guy who just never takes that last step into the 'elite QB' group. I could be wrong... that's just the feeling I get from him.

Henne, I am damn excited about. I think he has the potential to be a great QB. Probably not a Marino/Manning/Farve type of gunslinger who's going to dominate the stat sheets every week, but more of a Troy-Aikman-type of QB who consistently performs well, leads his team, and wins.

In b4 cliched Henne hasn't proven anything yet. This is speculation about what he can do. If he had proven something he wouldn't be in the conversation for BREAKOUT PLAYER!

I don't think any of them are the next Marino/Manning in passing stats, but there's so much else that factors into winning a ring.

They're all good quarterbacks and good enough to win a super bowl with. That's all a team really needs, is a quarterback good enough to give them an opportunity to win, with a right mix of everything else.

i don't think Flacco or Ryan can have break out years ... as their best years were their 1st years -- and got much hype.

Conversely, Henne has not gotten much (hasn't earned much either) ... so he is the only 1 that could have a 'breakout year' -- and it will be THIS year.

Don't forget that Henne was a late 2nd round pick, where guys he's getting compared to (Ryan, Flacco, Sanchez) were all 1st round picks. With that said, I believe Henne will be a star. Long and Henne are looking like outstanding picks from the first and second rounds of the 2008 draft. That's great value.
