I think the super friends coming together in Miami makes it more likely that another team will try to emulate that by forming their own triumverate. Just seeing the ticket sales, merchandise sales and publicity is enough to cause envy. It will gain even more momentum once the Heat starts winning championships. Basically, Riley has laid down a blueprint which will be copied.

CP/Melo/Howard is the one combination I've heard that sounds like the biggest threat to the super friends. IMO their games would complement each other very well.

CP3,Melo,and Howard definitely worries me if it comes to fruition, I doubt it will but it seems to be a possibility.

Honestly, that scares the crap out of me... I dont care what team you got. Just b/c of how that fits together. A point, a wing, and a Center...

    Scary...

A couple of problems with the scenario though:

-the NBA is on the verge of labor strife, which is a part of the reason why WJB chose to move now and in concert, if the new labor agreement is harsher (and I suspect it will be, too many teams losing money) then piecing a team together on FA signings becomes more difficult.

-Either CP3 or Melo could be traded and sign elsewhere.

-The process of clearing cap space takes time, and sacrifice, it took the Heat 2yrs to clear enough space to sign all 3 players, that ruins the Magic's timing.

When Sect and myself were going back and forth about Wade signing in Chicago after he complained that he needed some help, Sect mentioned that a player would not leave 30 million on the table that a original team can offer in a MAX contract, it was my contention that no player who is ambitious wishes to waste their time on a team that will not contend and that sometimes it was not always about the money.

Sect was correct about Wade, I turned out to be correct in general, the point being the Magic ARE a contending team already, who is going to take the paycut?

That is what made this situation unique, 3 dominant players with expiring contracts, all 3 willing to take a paycut to be a microwave ready contending team, in Orlando the situation is entirely different.

Though I fully expect NO Owner George Shinn (of whom I have nothing good to say, he lost/traded Zo, Larry Johnson AND Kobe Bryant) will trade CP3.

The Key for Orlando is to drop a ton of BS contracts they have now.

Rashard is the key. Extending Jameer for big money ..IMO is a waste of time. stay strong on him.

You have dwight...go for the build around him. If you are not a player for 2012...then you are just a team that has a bad gm.

Half of that list wil be mid 30's or older in 2012 FN.

And the other thing to keep in mind, BWJ all had prior, successful, experience with each other in the Olympics, they knew one another, eat/played/won together, and James' endorsement deals obviates the need for a MAX deal, and I could be wrong, but didn't Bosh sign for more than Wade did?

Do you think Howard will be willing to do the same?

Add in, JBW also all had the same Agency, meaning there was no need to grind axes to get "their" guy the largest deal, are Melo and CP3 signed with the same Agent?

Riles pulled off a coup', one that I seriously doubt will be repeated, like the Celts drafting Larry Bird a yr before he was even draft eligible, the System just will not allow some things to be repeated imho.

I think Howard has less ego than any of our big 3, and definitely think he would. Plus, Dwight does, and would get even more endorsement money.

Paul and Howard (and DWilliams for that matter) played together in the Olympics as well. It is a little harder, in that adding Melo to it would be harder b/c you'd need a trade anywhere else than Denver. Although, Denver definitely can do this.

What about NY doing Paul, Amare, and Dwight? Possible as well.

This can definitely happen again... unless the new CBA completely ****s it...

Not sure how many fans recall the 1999 flick "The Three Kings" but a line it really struck me:

"We Three Kings be Stealing the Gold"

Haslem will sign in Dallas, just my gut, but 20 millie, is 20 millie, if he sticks and stays in Miami, THAT will be the most selfless act I've seen in FA, it is one thing for the 3x Kings to eschew 20 millie, for a player like Haslem, that is his only big payday, imho he should take that deal.

He's 30, he is closer to the end than the beginning of his career.

BTW on Joe Rose's show, (he and DWade are tight, Rose watches his kids) he mentioned that Dwade's favorite vid from all of this is:

[ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U5FEQlhy8vc"]YouTube- Dynasty- Lebron James Miami Heat Mix (Won't Back Down)[/ame]

Actually...my case on Wade was that he was IN ON what Riley was doing..and he knew that any upgrade had to come from guys that had minimal contracts..like Lamar Odom (they tried) or guys that also expired in 2010, Amare, and Boozer. So he wouldn't leave because he was in on the plan.

As for taking a paycut...this is unprecedented. I still feel confident in saying that nobody turns down the extra 30 million....unless your name is Lebron James, Chris Bosh and Shaquille Oneal (Only guys in history to turn down Home town Max contracts)

Eh, then why would DWade complain publicly that he needed help?

I can think of reasons why he would, but they are esoteric, as in Riles and MJ having dinner with LJ and talking up the #23, and then James switching numbers and saying the every NBA team should retire the #23..

These are good kids Sect, nary a one of them is in trouble with the law, and they respect the game, that imho helped Riles tremendously, when Riles and MJ have access to LJ, who is a Student of the game, and he listens, that means he respects both of them as he considers himself a All Time player himself, like attracts like as the saying goes.

Ah Sect, one thing, a very overlooked thing, is there is a plurality of players in the NBA who came from impoverished backgrounds, but their Mothers were very very Christian, see DWade buying his mom's a Church, that background, especially with the already Wealthy means decision making is not always as cut and dried as a straight up business deal in the so called "real" world.

Egos, backgrounds, friendships, this is a different world Sect, recall Jason Taylor left 7 million on the table to come back to the Dolphins?

I'd say not unprecendented, but not the norm, however it does happen and should factor into people's thinking

Well, maybe...Rose's one redeeming quality is..he is an extremely loyal friend, he is sorta wacky sometimes, but he takes friendships seriously.

In the rare air of multi millionaires, can you imagine how difficult it is to find someone one trusts, who is reliable, on a couple of hours notice?

No parent wants to dump their kids off at some sketchy situation, now consider that Wade is A)single B) Wealthy.

Lol Pads, I was just kidding. I was going by the on-air personality that is Joe.

-Wade: "Hey kids how was your day out with Joe?"
-Kid 1: "We went to Tootsies"
-Kid 2: "Joe told us all about his ex-wives and why we should never get married; he's passed out drunk in his underwear wearing your bathrobe somewhere in the backyard"
-Kid 1: "For a man, Joe cries a lot"

It wasn't supposed to be. Think of it as Fake Dan LeBatard imitating last week's rant.

And it was still better than the crap Sid Rosenberg opened his show with. The guy who came on Miami radio a couple of weeks ago and said "If LeBron wants to win, he'll come to Miami" is whining and crying about LeBron coming to Miami.

I am a big fan of his. He lost weight, dedicated himself last year for the Heat, but he has no ties here.

Orlando is not only tripling what we can pay him, but also giving him multiple years.

The heat put him way down the totem pole. They had Miller, and Haslem as priorities.

I wish him well. Orlando fans...you just upgraded over JJ Redick and Matt Barnes..IMO. If he is dedicated like he was last year here.

Athletes get ridiculed all the time about how they only care about the money, but this Miami Heat team is all about Winning, Team, Family, Loyalty!
