I'm surprised by the # of sports games listed. I mean I put a ton of hours into sports games (more than any other single game), but I don't think any of them are close to the best game I've played (recent NCAA with online dynasties, and the Show would be the closest though).
Absolutely!!! Just so hard to pick with all the great games I have played since 1985. Damn I am getting old.
My list in order would be: Uncharted 2 Uncharted Resistance 1 and 2 Oblivion What I really liked about those was the stories and how they integrated the game play experience. I see them like playable movies and I really like movies. Next I want to try Hard Rain and Assassin's Creed 2. Sports games fall in a different category for me. They are like old school games, fighting games and even video board games. I play those periodically, but not with a goal to finish them. I'm having difficulty describing how they're different, but I just know that rightly or wrongly, I separate them in my mind.
FF7 obviously as if i hadn't said it enough :P though I will say that my girlfriend recently beat FF13. now she's trying FF7 and she tells me that 7 ****s all over 13 even with the graphic difference
Hey that's just my opinion. I'm aware that most people prefer 7 and some of the others that preceded 7, but I just liked 8 more. Maybe has something to with the fact that I played 8 before I played 7 I dunno, just my opinion.
i remember the first game that i really got into.i was 10 and the girl down the street taught me to play "doctor"and ever since i've been addicted to all games in that genre.."house","dress up&down" and my personal fav "hide the hanky".some moves are difficult to master but with proper finger flexibility you too can be tops on the scoreboard.
Forgot about Ultima Online before EA ****ed it up...Open world with no rules made for a very interesting dynamic and a ****load of PVP.
I never played Morrowind so I can't compare it, but Oblivion was certainly different than anything else I've ever played. The story was okay and some of the graphics were underwhelming, but it was just so vast and deep. It actually felt like a whole new world. I've never played WoW, but my impression is that that would be a similar experience.
I would highly recommend Morrowind then. It's almost exactly like Oblivion except I think the combat system is better, more spells as well. I also found Oblivion to be a bit repetitive at times, didn't feel that way with Morrowind. Morrowind is just like Oblivion also in the way of a massive amount of mods. As for WoW, it's just like most other MMO's. A grindfest with no variety in the quests. The only MMO that I can think of as similar to Oblivion is Runescape in that it has a vast world with tons of things to do. Most MMO's are limited to 5 different types of quests, grinding, fighting boss monsters for items, grinding, and some more grinding. No real variety like single player RPG's.
I know its your opinion, I know people that loved that game as well, but its just shocking to me that someone would declare it the GOAT. To me, Its like saying Ray Lucas was the best NFL QB ever when he wasnt even the best Dolphins QB ever.
So hard to pick but if I had to pick just one, the original Shining Force for the Genesis was one of my absolute all time favorites. So many games in that genre have tried, but none have been able to equal the original Shining Force in my humble opinion.
Hard to compare Genres. So I will just make a nerdy list. RPG- Baldurs Gate 2 Action RPG- Diablo 2 FPS- Goldeneye 64/Half-Life 3PS- Socom 2 RTS- Company of Heroes / Total War
Except like at least 10 games released in the past 3 years or so probably. Not to mention the controls are ****.
The thing about WoW is, once you hit the level cap, it becomes a different game entirely. Seriously, the difference between leveling and end game content is like the difference between little league and the pros. Every rpg type game is full of quest grinding, including Oblivion. The ability to play the game the way you want in a world that size was the key factors in making Oblivion so great. WoW has that ten fold.
Admittedly, I wouldn't know. The little I played was so excruciating I had to stop. I couldn't imagine dealing with months of grinding before the game becomes fun. MMO's just aren't my cup of tea I reckon.
Overall it is Oblivion for me. However RDR gets an honorable mention. I won't say why as I don't want to give any spoilers
No, he's right. If you played Goldeneye today you'd wonder what the big deal was. Some games are always better in your memory than they are in real life.
Fair enough, but was the difference in the grinding in Oblivion and WoW? Not arguing with you, you like what you like....I'm just curious.
If that was the case, none of those old school games could hold a candle to games that have come out the last 5 years. Going by that logic would you consider GTA4 a better gaming experience than Jet Grind Radio? What about MGS4 over MGS2?
There is grinding in Oblivion if you choose you play that way. I simply played it for the quests. WoW from the few hours I played was all grind. 3 types of quests, nothing but killing mobs. Now I'm sure after hours upon hours, it may get fun when you get to a high level and get some good items, but even then, where's the variety of things to do in WoW or most other MMO's? There's only 1 MMO I can think of that has a vast variety of things to do. Like I said, I wouldn't know because I only played WoW for like 4 hours before getting bored with it.
No, it is true. There's such a thing as nostalgia. I'm not saying that newer is automatically better, just that fond remembrances might not be accurate to reality. Trust me on this: I've had several classic games ruined for me by going back to play them again years after the fact. The 7th Saga, Metal Gear, Final Fantasy VII, Battle Arena Toshinden, Mario Kart 64, and many others. They're just unplayable despite being quality experiences back in The Day. There are games that age well and games that don't age well. Goldeneye has not aged well. That's not to say it's a terrible game or that you're somehow wrong for liking it. It just hasn't aged well.
Fair enough. But this thread isn't about best games of all time. It's about your favorite game experiences of all time. And Goldeneye is without a doubt, in my top 5 gaming experiences of all time.
Nostalgia aside, I think people are being unfair to Goldeneye. The couch 4 player gameplay was one of a kind with its abundant modes. The singleplayer was massive, and fwiw they incorporated a lot of the film into the campaign. The hit-boxes/bullet detection set benchmarks in the genre from what I remember. Most people these days just arent used to 4 player Multi-player shooters, so I wouldnt expect them to understand what made Goldeneye so amazing. That was the pinnacle of MP gaming back then, and it was in a league of its own. Honestly... there wasnt one FPS on the Playstation, Dreamcast, or PS2 that you can truly break down and compare to Goldeneye. It was the king of its time, just as Halo was and deserves the same respect. No games really age well outside of extreme casual games like Tetris. Guess what? All those platformers, RPGs, adventure games that most of us grew up with? None of them aged well either. From wiki-
Title says best games of all time. But anyway the best games I have played are: Mass Effect 2, GOW3, MGS4. Now my favorite games of all time are: Legend of Zelda- OOT, Fallout 3, Metal Gear Solid, and the original COD
No, it says the best game you've played. Could of it woreded it differently I suppose, but it seems most people get the picture.
