    Um, Socom 2?

And I don't know about the blanket you're throwing out with your aging well statement. I can still play Super Mario World, Chrono Trigger, Legend of Zelda: aLttP and many others today without much problem with their aging. Granted their controls don't blow, so that probably helps.

SOCOM 2 wasnt a FPS, it was a 3PS, I mean you could go into a FPS mode but it was ****. Also I mentioned it in my nerdy list as the best 3PS. Those platform/RPG games you mentioned use the same nostalgia you were railing against when discussing goldeneye(They pale in direct comparison to games today). Its also quite amusing that anyone could suggest Goldeneyes controls blow, considering the fact that they were a benchmark for tight controls on consoles. I dont think that you even are thinking about how console + FPS didnt go together until 007. Things that we see today in Halo, Resistance, Killzone, ETC....they all come in under 007s shadow.

There werent even any games before it that had a comparable massive single player campaign along with such immense replay value in the MP. The mentality that AAA action game need deep Multiplayer along with a huge SP campaign began with 007.

Great post. Pretty much sums it up. Not only is it the memories with Goldeneye, but it's right there with Quake and Doom as the pioneers of FPS gaming.

For a classic game I would have to say Super Mario Brother 3, speaking of which I found a crazy vid of a guy beating the game in under 12 mins.

Best single player campaign for me would have to be MW1, not the worlds longest single player but just really well done IMO. Had so much fun playing through that.

All time favorite game for me though is Halo 3. Its pretty much the only game I have played with regularity ever since it came out and playing the beta is what made me buy my 360 in the first place. I have well over 10,000 multi player games played and while I am still not the worlds greatest player the game is simply still fun for me. Its hard for me to quantify why I love it so much but I just do.

Shenmue was a really great game, very ambitious in all the things you could do. Still, I'd say Phantasy Star Online was one of the very best games I've ever played. Between online and offline play, I've probably clocked in 500 hours with several characters. This game alone was worth buying a Dreamcast for.

Next I'd go with Halo:CE on the Xbox. So many hours spent in LAN parties, it never got old.

Of course, NFL 2K5 was the best football gaming experience. I think EA is getting closer with Madden, finally, but sad it took them 6 years to get there.

BTW, my wife would go with KOTOR, Oblivion, Bioshock, Mass Effect 2, and Fallout 3 as some of the very best games. Keep in mind I only got her into gaming on the first Xbox and she's really into it now on the 360.

Man, there have been so many great games. It's almost impossible to pick just one that I like.

NES - Punchout, Contra, Tecmo Bowl, Castlevania ...almost too many to mention
Super NES - Final Fantasy VI
Playstation - Final Fantasy VII, Castlevania: Symphony of the Night
N64 - Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, Conker's Bad Fur Day
    Dreamcast - Soul Calibur
PS2 - Grand Theft Auto: Vice City (I prefer it over San Andreas due to story and soundtrack), Bully
X-Box - Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, though I never beat it.
Wii - Nothing really stands out.
X-Box 360 - Grand Theft Auto IV, Fallout 3, Red Dead Redemption
    PS3 - Don't own one.

Out of all of those, my top 3 would probably be Final Fantasy VII, Ocarina of Time, and Final Fantasy VI ... probably in that order.
