I wanted Chris Long as an SOLB, but Gholston I thought would have issues at the next level; and thus far he has.

I never did a breakdown of Chris Long, only Jake and Vernon which looking back is a shame because it would have been a nice comparison at this stage of their careers.

when you look at the draft three years out the only picks that were remotely doable at one overall and panned out were Jake, Ryan and Clady.

We may screw up a lot of 2nd rounders, but when we're top 5, do much better. and while someone will say "it's harder to screw up a top 5 pick", I'd point to 2005 and 2008. 2005, 6 out of top 10 were busts (or in case of Cadillac a waste of money due to injuries). Used to be 7 out of 10 before Cedric Benson resurrected his career. Really the only blue chip players in the top 10 that year were Ronnie and Braylon. 2008 so far looks like 2 blue chip players in top 6, Jake and Ryan Long.

Sorry but I dont put Braylon as a blue chipper with all of his baggage. You dont get rid of a B.C.er when you are almost void of talent.

IMO it's easy to screw up a top five pick. There have been so many busts through the years. If you don't do work in the pre-draft process, you are screwed.

Man, nice find. I actually work for Anthony Munoz's Foundation here in Cincinnati and get to interact with him almost daily when he's here in town. He always jokes with me about being a Dolphins fan and Ohio State fan working for a Bengal and USC Trojan, but I remember asking him what he thought of Jake, and that's pretty much exactly what he said.

Said he ranked them Joe Thomas, Jake Long, and D'Brickashaw Ferguson 1-2-3. His reasoning was that he thought Joe Thomas was more flexible and had better hips - our guys from UD have said the same - but really liked Jake's work ethic and toughness.

I'll leave you with some Anthony Munoz trivia. After 13 years with the Bengals, what team did he sign with in 1994? (Hint: he got injured and didn't play a down with them and subsequently retired).
