12 team keeper, PPR, all TDs 6. QB, RB, RB, WR, WR, WR, TE, D, K Already keeping: Fitz Austin Ray Rice I have the 3rd pick in our 1st round and I'm still debating who I want. Top options are: Jamaal Charles Tony Romo Shonne Greene Benson McCoy Colston Johnathon Stewart Ryan Matthews Who would you take? Leaning towards Spoiler Romo. As much as I'd like another great RB to tandem w/Rice, I don't see a sure thing on the board. I really think Romo has a lot of reasons to why could end up Top 3
Mathews. Im in a keeper as well with the first overall pick for an inherited team and Ill tell you right now thats my pick. Norv Turner loves a workhorse back. Also: -Romo throws too many INT's for my liking. -Greene hasnt stayed healthy in years even in college - Charles will time share with Jones. Mathews may lose some 3rd down catches to Sproles but I highly doubt Sproles actually gets more then a handful of carries a game. McCoy would be my 2nd choice if its a PPR league
As much as I hate to say it, I would lean towards Greene... or perhaps Romo, depending on who has already been kept. I know, with the way things look to be playing out, I want one of the top 5 qb's (Brees, Rodgers, Manning, Brady, Schaub, or Romo). So, if those QBs are slim pickings, I would lean towards Romo. If you've got some options at QB, I would look hard at Greene or Matthews. Both are young backs with potential to be a long term keeper. Both have solid olines, too. The thing that worries me about Matthews is that he unproven and the Chargers may be quite unbalanced on offense if VJax is out for several games. Greene on the other hand, has been handed the reins to the offense and finished last year strong. Personally, I would steer clear of Colston, Benson, and McCoy. Colston is in an offense that doesn't have a clear focus whereas Benson has trouble staying healthy. McCoy, meanwhile, is getting opportunities but isn't worth the #3 pick IMO. Romo, Greene, or Matthews.
QBs are slim picking. After Romo, there's only Cutler, Flacco, and the other lower tier guys. I'd never draft Matthews bc I need to hit on this pick, bc I have to wait another 12 for my next one.
With that much of a drop off at QB, I would def take Romo and don't look back. There is a lot more depth at RB and those that you have listed are far less of a proven commodity, especially if you are worried about busting on this pick.
Go with Romo. I don't know what Boik's talking about regarding Romo throwing too many picks, since he threw all of 9 INTs last season. Missing out on Ryan Mathews stings a little bit, but you have Ray Rice, which should dull the wound. See if you can get LeSean McCoy in the 2nd round.
tough choice but its either Romo or Matthews i wouldnt mind having Flacco as my QB. You can always keep Matthews for next year too right? I dont know but its a long wait for your next pick. Romo and next tier RB or Flacco and Matthews
Me either. Romo has improved a lot over the last few seasons. I just don't trust a rookie RB. I could keep Matthews but I don't see him being a better keeper than Rice, Fitz, or Austin but who knows. I'm goin Romo then next tier RB if there's still value there. If the RBs aren't great then it'll be top 3 TE. Then championship.
I would wait on a TE. This years crop goes about 8 or 9 deep without much variance. I would be more inclined to target another upper echelon WR, since this season is shaping up to be a high powered passing based offense.
WRs are ridiculously slim. I'd prob be looking at Ocho, Nicks, Garcon, or Bowe there. I'll really just go wherever there is value w/ the 2nd pick. I don't have a 3rd so I'd rather not get stuck with a lower level TE.
The only TE I would take that early would be Dallas Clark since he is practically a WR in that offense. I also wouldn't lose sight of Hakeem Nicks. I think he is going to break out and become a player very similar to Anquan Boldin (hopefully minus the injuries). Needless to say, I am interested to see how your draft goes. You should post it here so we can see it.
I like Nicks too. Really just depends on what other value is there. I'll post the results when it happens.
Bowe is the best in that group by far. Well, I guess Ochocinco is alright as a fallback if Bowe is off the board, but Nicks and Garcon have no business being talked about in the same tier as Bowe and Ochocinco.
Ya but TO isn't coming off a 4 game suspension and talking about how his teammates get blown in hotels either.
Shouldn't unless he tests positive again which will prob result in half his season down the ****ter. I love his ceiling though. If I can get him for a good price he'd be an amazing WR3.
I'm talking about the fact that Romo has thrown 14 picks and 19 picks the two years prior. Norv Turner works the holy hell out of his backs and does not time share. His history tells you this. If you can get McCoy in round two god bless but unless youre drafting with a bunch of knuckleheads that wont happen based on the talent listed. I hope it happens for ya though slick. I think long term Mathews could well end up as a better value then Austin, simply because I think long term Bryant and Whitten will affect the amount of passes thrown Austin's way. I also think Turner will force feed Mathews whatever he can handle just like he did to Emmit and every other back hes ever coached. If it were a single year league I might see it differently but hey your have your opinion, I have mine. I like Gates more then Clark this year. He had 1200+ yards last year and now Vincent Jackson may not be there which should equal even more passes heading his way. Clark will have Anthony Gonzalez back in the fold as well who will get some targets. Watchout for Nicks. I actually like him more then Bowe. He's a red zone target, had a great YPC average last year and his offense moves the ball. Bowe is going to see more double teams due to the lack of targets around him then Nicks will.
He has. But he def has more going for him now than ever. His ceiling is pretty much through the roof as far as where he finishes. Personally, I'm confident enough in his progress that I feel his floor is worth a risk (not that I'd be risking much in the 4th) Na, my buddy told me I have no chance at McCoy lol Austin, I traded for (Shaub and a 6th for Austin). Not really concerned about targets for him. Dallas threw almost as much as Indy last year and with them moving Austin in the slot for 3 wide, he'll see plenty of opportunities. His YAC really sold me. Do you know or have reason to believe that Matthews already owns the GL work in SD? Can't go wrong with either. They're both top tier by themselves, imo. KC did do well with Chambers and they do have Charles and maybe McCluster to take some pressure off Bowe. Bowe has more value to me since he's the true WR 1. Nicks has a lot more competition for targets.
Peyton Manning threw 16 INTs in 2009 and 28 over the last two seasons. Drew Brees threw 11 INTs in 2009 and 28 over the last two seasons. Tom Brady threw 13 INTs in 2009, and, well, the same amount over the last two seasons. Tony Romo threw 9 INTs in 2009 and 23 INTs over the last two seasons. Romo comes out smelling like a rose on the interception test.
Brees and Manning throw more touchdowns though. Brady only had one great fantasy year and that was the year he went ape poop.
If there is one thing I like about Turner, he never splits carries so while he hasnt come out and said it, there's every reason to believe it. I dont dislike romo, I just dont know that I would take a good QB over someone I feel can be a top fantasy running back. Running backs not in time shares are rare these days and Turner hasnt ever subscribed to that. I hope Romo has a good year for you and you win though. As for Nicks Vs Bowe, theyre a lot closer then you think. While Nicks has more players to contend with for passes he has better hands and manning loves throwing the goalline fade. He threw it a lot when the Giants had Burress and Shockey and hes a better Qb now then he was a few years ago. Plus Nicks made a great dallas defense look foolish multiple times last year. he breaks tackles every time he touches the ball it seems.
Of course; that's why they're selected higher than Romo in all drafts. No one's saying Romo is the best fantasy QB, just that he's not an INT machine.
But he falls just short of being an elite option. So ask if you would want a potentially elite running back option (not necessarily in terms of talent but stats) or a very good fantasy QB? In real life I would think differently but for fantasy, I take the running back every time. If I felt stronger about McCoy or felt there was any chance Reid would show a regular commitment to the running game Id take him over Romo also
Considering the relative paucity of truly elite fantasy QBs, that's not exactly an insult. Tony Romo is about the equivalent to Philip Rivers, except in a tougher division. I'd take Romo, just because RB is a deep position. If slick can't get Mathews, he can hope for LeSean McCoy. If he can't get McCoy, then Ben Tate or Reggie Bush or Marion Barber should all be very good in a PPR, and all are worthy keeper candidates.
It's lookin like Matthews right now. Boldin and Colston/Romo are going off the board at 1 and 2 from what I hear. I can neither confirm or deny the guy at 1 is on crack.
Boldin? really? Why question whether the guy at 1 is on crack, just feed him more? Maybe he'll decide on Derrick Mason instead?
And this guy is supposedly a fantasy writer. I'm thinking he's just gasing up my friend but a few people have told me the same thing so who knows.
Sad either way. I will be if it happens. Looking more like I might have to choose between Charles and Greene though. I actually traded Shaub for Miles Austin a few months ago.
