New Miami Dolphins linebackers coach Bill Sheridan seeking replacements for Jason Tay

"The Dolphins have themselves a very bright coach, one who understands the game," Banks said. "As a position coach he'll excel there."

When the Dolphins open training camp at 2 p.m. Friday, there will be a great deal of focus on linebackers, particularly outside linebackers, because of the departure of starters Joey Porter and Jason Taylor.

The leading candidates to take over as first-team outside linebackers - Charlie Anderson, Cameron Wake, Quentin Moses, Erik Walden and rookie Koa Misi - have a combined 10 NFL starts, seven by Anderson.

Further clouding the picture is the fact that Misi and Wake, the most dynamic possibilities in terms of getting to the passer, have spent most of their careers at defensive end.

"That is a challenge," Sheridan admitted of coaching that transition. "Obviously you're counting on them being excellent pass rushers, but the pass coverage stuff is a little bit foreign to them.

"It's not that they're overwhelmed mentally. It's like they're playing basketball and they've never played it before. Just a little unfamiliar with opening up, playing out in space, relating to receivers."

I find it odd were using 1 coach this year instead of an ILB & OLB coach when this is the year we have a load of new rookie LB's needing serious teaching. Sheridan's got his work cut out for him.

What I find odd is Sheridan was the Lb coach in 2005...Derek Wake was in Giants Camp in 2005...and was released outright after Rook minicamp.

Extra motivation for Cameron maybe?

Heres Crowder's view on the matter:

Crowder, who is paired with free agent signee Karlos Dansby, said it's good to have one coach for all of the linebackers.

"We're all in the same room now and we can talk things out," he said. "I like it and I think it'll be very successful for us."

Never trust Crowder's opinion from team meetings. Will he be structured on the field....doubt it and Dansby is his crutch.

i kinda like it.i would rather be taught by one person than 3 different people.it would be easier to bond with and buy into that system i would think.sheridan is a great coach and i'm sure he can handle it.
