Ya this is awesome news! For some players I would hate on because they are overpaid as it is and are not proven so they don't deserve the extra money but even though revis is a jet he is probably the best cb in the league and he would only make 1 million this year(from what I heard). Even though one side of this will probably give in before the beginning of the season it is great to see revis not giving in and just the problems it may cause on the team

I agree he should be paid more than 1 million but wanting 16 or so a year is too much. No cornerback is worth that much. I can't blame the Jets too much for not wanting to pay because Al Davis is senile. I hope this dispute lasts into the season.

I agree he's probably underpaid, but saying Revis is playing for 1 mill this year is inaccurate. He signed a contract to play a specific number of years for a specific amount of money. That he received the lion's share already is IMO irrelevant. He wanted most of it up front and that's what he got. In fact he held out as a draftee.
I believe he got something like 16 mil guaranteed. I can't help but wonder if he would be complaining if he were due to get most of his guaranteed money this year instead of right when he signed his rookie deal.

I didn't look up how much he made over the past years but when your the best player in the league you can to an extent do what you want and in my opinion should get paid towards the top of the list

lol....No offense but I love how fast you guys turn on your players sometimes. This dude faces THE best wr's in the NFL on a weekly basis. And has shut them all down. The NFL is a Get paid while you can league. He knows that. You should be mad at the front office not Revis.

I dont know about that. One of if not the best shut down corners in the league yes. But he is not in the same League as Troy P, Ed Reed etc.

i cant see him holding out for long. i think there is some deadline by which if he holds out past it he cant become a free agent next year and the club retains his rights for another year. i think it will get resolved soon.

Just my own thoughts...I would think Revis is operating under the assumption that he will get a new multi year contract and FA for next year will be a moot point.

The best player in the league is a QB. It's the hardest and most valuable position on the team. Next would be the offensive/defensive line positions probably. It seems Revis wants to make top QB type money. No CB is worth that much. Even if he is the best one.

He is the best defensive player in the league. He is also a greedy *****.
Why should I be mad at the front office? They have made repeated offers that Revis has declined. He is being unreasonable when he says he wants to be paid the #1 corner in the league. His value should not be skewed by one stupid contract that Al Davis gave out.

Actually, the deadline is August 10th. Revis is dumb if he holds out longer than that. If he is that dumb, then the Jets will have rights to him for the next FOUR years. He really does not have any leverage.

Hmm, I rarely waste time looking at Jets player's contracts, however I do recall Revis had an odd deal where he can buy back years from the Jets Front Office?

    http://www.thejetsblog.com/2007/08/17/details-out-on-darrelle-revis-contract/

He had an odd deal as I recall from the time, as far as "report by 8/10 or he is Jest property for 4 yrs"

Linky please, AFAIK, a holdout player can only be fined, there exists no known clause wherein a holdout enacts 4 more years of contractual obligations and I'd like to read a deal that contains such a clause.

Nah. He's a GREAT player and should be paid like it. Revis shouldnt play a down until he's extended at 20 million per season, at least :shifty:.

From what I've heard talking to Jets fans, Revis is only vastly underpaid this season and that the last two years of his contract pay him between 7-10 million yr. Not sure if this is true, but if it was, why can't Jets' management simply spread the 16-21 million over three years so Revis gets a hefty chunk this year? I realize that it's not the huge payday that Revis wants, but it's better than 1/2 million he gets this season.

Either way, I hope it stays stalemated. The Jets fans are falling back on "Revis held out his rookie year and came in and played just fine". But, just because it worked 4 years ago, doesn't mean it works now. Your superstar comes in at the end of training camp and you risk him getting an injury for being out of football shape.

Meh. It isn't news until/if it gets to the regular season. Revis is great, he will get paid and everyone will love him again in New Jersey. This happens evvery year with someone and they always say they aren't showing up until they get their deal, etc., etc.

    This is no different.

This is why I hate the NFL sometimes, I don't see how someone who loves this great game of Football holdout for Money. This dude will make 1 Million dollers this year. That's a lot of money. People will KILL for that. I know, I agree he deserves more. Putting money before Football is just stupid to me. Now I'm young, entering the 10th Grade playing my 2nd year of of JV Football, And I love this game with a passion. I would choose Football over Sex any day. I just don't see how people can do this. Money just ruins everything.

You probably don't see that because you don't have a career yet. You haven't experienced that in life yet. When you have a career one day you will want to be compensated fairly relative to your peers in the same field. The problem for Revis is that Al Davis skewed what fair compensation for a top CB should look like. The other problem is that Fat Rex couldn't stop feeding Revis' ego.

As for that second statement, I guess it would depend on who it was with.

Maybe your right. But still I find that sad he and others would do something like that. And I doupt he wants more money to seem equal to his peers. Some people need to step up and be a man, a leader...But I guess that HS bull Crap don't work in the NFL? But he he's a jets player...I shouldn't hold high expectations for him. :tongue2:

There will be plenty times in his life to make money, but he won't be able to play Football forever.

I haven't been following this story really. Is he still in Holdout? It's almost a week away from the first pre-season game, I'm wondering how long he's going to milk this...
