I don't think Charlie is ever going to be an ILB in base 3-4 sets, but I could imagine him being an ILB in nickel sets. Different position responsibilities.
That was ofcourse due to the fact that Edds could come in and take Misi's place on the outside. Now, with that done, it is likely an after thought. However, why not simply use Dobbins who has shown he can play relatively well as a replacement for Crowder in certain situations if needed. I think if we compare the two players one would have to give the edge in athleticism to Dobbins. Crowder is bigger IIRC, but Dobbins should be at worst on par with Crowder in coverage, and I mean at absolute worst. I think Misi could have come inside in certain situations, but without Edds it does hurt our ability to cover on the outside if we move Misi inside. With either Anderson or Dobbins we are still likely better off in coverage than with Crowder out there.
I don't think Dobbins is better in coverage than Crowder. I think at this point the three options are: 1. Channing Crowder 2. Charlie Anderson 3. Yeremiah Bell
Maybe it would be more along the lines of having Crowder playing second fiddle to a better LB, much like he did with Zach when he first got here. Crowder didn't have to do much heavy lifting, most plays were already read by Zach. Crowder had a decent year his first year due in some part to who we actually played, and that he wanted a new contract. If Crowder is not the primary guy, his freelancing likely won't be as problematic as he will likely hear calls from Dansby, rather than always having to be the guy. When Ayodele was here, Crowder had to be the leader, if this case Crowder might be a better fit being the one who follows. His weaknesses may be covered more.
Here's hoping. I just get the feeling it flip flops on us and exposes Channing's weaknesses exponentially. Also when Crowder played with Zach he was an OLB.
That's not entirely true given the way that defense operated. Jason Taylor was also listed as a DE when he was moved around, played a different role within the defense and was stood up a good deal. How many times did we shift the front and stand Taylor up so that he could attack the pocket from the middle of the line?
Well, and Tim Dobbins' role grows in Miami, not sure I like this move as Dobbins seems a bit to plodding to me to be effective in coverage.
i think we can find a 3rd down coverage backer on the waiver wire if need be. if not a late round draft choice for someone might be the solution.
No I didn't. You should work on your reading skills. If somebody had posted, "Edds is out for the season" and I responded with "now Sheets has to step up", somebody would have correctly asked what does one have to do with the other since I clearly implied that I believed Sheets had increased responsibilities due to the Edds injury. I responded to a direct question which asked, what was Sheets' potential.
CK's video. I wouldn't say he's plodding in coverage. He is more athletic than either Crowder or Ayodele. Not that big, but he certainly moves decently IMHO. [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L6vdVrTmJ2g"]YouTube- Universal Draft Presents Miami Dolphins LB Tim Dobbins Highlights From 2009[/ame]
He's got 4.6 speed, that's the primary difference we're talking about between Ayodele and Dobbins. But Dobbins is still not a good cover guy. In fact, there was a note just the other day about Pat Cobbs beating Dobbins on a wheel route for a 70 yard TD.
He's not great, but he is certainly a bit more nimble than Crowder. I don't think he'll be able to play outside, but he can move well enough to see action in certain situations I would think.
first off I wasn't initially responding to you secondly it was none of your business third who gives you the right to monitor and put guidelines on how I post People were talking about injuries and I said Crowder will have to step up. Not necessarily referring to the Edds injuries. Since other defensive players were mentioned. Do you fight all of Stringer's battles?
i would say that too and while it wasn't the current front office we traded welker to a team we play twice a yr every yr so if the price is very good i could see them trading him to anyone.
So, is it your belief that our base nickle package is going to be a 2-4-5? Where do the DEs line up in that alignment?
The "DE's" are the OLB's standing up off of the line of scrimmage, or one may put a hand on the ground, or both might put a hand on the ground. think of it like this: 2 DT's lined up on the G-C-G 4 Lb's maybe 4 yds off of the line of scrimmage in a 3-4
I don't know if it was freelancing- There were certainly times that Crowder blitzed the wrong gap, but I don't know if you can be sure he did it on his own volition instead of what he was responsible for on the play. At the beginning of camp Sparano praised Crowder for being willing to do the dirty work, technical aspects, and all that stuff.
I'm not fighting anybody's battles. You asked to be shown where you compared the two and I pointed it out. I didn't get the impression that Stringer was the only person who was allowed to respond to your request. And the other defensive players that had been mentioned at that point were either others who had been injured (Ferg and Merling) or players who might take over Edds' duties (Folsom). Since Crowder wasn't injured then you logically were mentioning him as somebody who might have to take over Edds' duties. And since you've stated in the past that you thought the plan was to have Edds replace Crowder on passing downs it seems disingenuous for you to claim that now you were not comparing them. Just let it go. You said something silly and you got called on it.
I believe the nickel package will rotate between, I guess you'd call it 2-4-5 PERSONNEL, but they'll line up all over the place, and I guess what you'd call 2-3-6 personnel. One nickel package will consist of: Jared Odrick Randy Starks Koa Misi Cameron Wake Channing Crowder/Charlie Anderson Karlos Dansby Vontae Davis Sean Smith Will Allen Chris Clemons Yeremiah Bell The other nickel package will consist of: Jared Odrick Randy Starks Koa Misi Cameron Wake Karlos Dansby Vontae Davis Sean Smith Will Allen Yeremiah Bell Tyrone Culver Chris Clemons They'll line up and move all over the place but those are the approaches I expect on nickel this year. Of course, when I put the slash on Crowder and Anderson it's just that I think they'll compete for that second ILB spot in that particular package. Also it should be noted that these guys will be rotating so you'll see Odrick out for Douglas, maybe Starks out for McDaniel, etc.
One thing I definitely noticed from watching Nolan's D last year is that the front-7 moves around a lot.
Ok, ya the DEs you are referring to, I was referring to them as OLBs... And referring to the DTs as DEs. So, are the DTs in a 1 & 3 tech? Both in 3? I'm sure they will change based off the offensive formation and situation, but what is the base alignment for the DTs in that formation?
Bro, honestly I don't know off hand, all I've seen is pictures of the formation from the backside, I'd imagine they would change their technique based on which of the OLB/DE/ILB's were blitzing trying to create a hole for the blitzer to attach through.
So you don't believe that Crowder needs to step up? That is a little short sighted and arrogant for even you. But then again you are always right so I'll let it go. When Crowder stinks it up I'll be back to tell you all about it.
I think there's a chance we may still be looking for an SOLB next year and Misi will be replacing Crowder....
Speaking for myself, I'm rooting for Crowder to play good this year, and I think it's wrong to root for a player to play badly, just to appear right on an internet messsage board.
I'm not a pessimist just an optimist with experience I'm not rooting against CC. Hell I've been waiting way to long for him to blossom. I've become weary in hope. Now I expect mediocrity.
I believe you'll tell me he stunk it up regardless of whether he does or not. I think Crowder needs to play back to the level he did when he was healthy and primarily the run LB. I wouldn't say that's a step up since he already did that in the same role. If we were planning to use him in the Dansby role again then I might say step up, especially if I were ignoring the fact he played injured for most of last season.
