I think Chad Pennington's presence on the sideline, and on the field should his services be needed (let's hope not) are far more valuable to this team than a future pick. I'd argue even more valuable than a 2nd.
I agree. At this point he's likely as valuable as coach/mentor as he would be oon the field. He knows the system, shares and teaches well, REALLY wants to be here... The list of reason to keep him a round is long, while the trade reason are minimal. And who wouldn't want to see him finish his playing days here and morph into our QB coach or something similiar? If we keep him around that could be the next step in a year or three. Unless someone's starting QB gets hurt and they offer up a king's ransom, I'd keep him as long as he will stay.
It was once said "a team with two quarterbacks really has no quarterback" I believe Parcell's said that at one time.
I think that was more directed at not having a clear starter/backup. When you flip flop who's playing QB, you invite trouble like botched snaps, mis-timed plays, etc, plus it's a good indicator you don't have confidence in either.
Keep Pennnington as the 2nd....look at it as an investment into our franchise QB...The exp he will get all year by having Penny by his side thru all the war's is golden and pretty darn rare..I want the QB with the most lethal arm in the game to be tutured by the genious..I think its a beautiful combination. Trade thiggy for a higher pick then which you paid.
It's also been said, "You're only really as good as your backup QB." Obviously teams like the Colts make this statement ring hollow, but even Peyton Manning is only one play away from a season ending injury every time he takes the field.
Penny is a winner and I really hope they keep him around. It provides some peace of mind should Henne go down with an injury. We know the season won't fall apart if we still have Penny on the roster.
Sorry but that is pure insanity right there. If someone were to offer a 2nd round pick for Chad Pennington you would have to do that in a yesterday bro. To think that CP is more valuable than a 2nd round pick at this point in his career is absolute crazy talk.
yeah i agree. cp is valuable to a legit playoff team only but we should hold out for a king's ransom 2nd round or third at least. anything less let's keep him
I'd agree with you if we were talking about it from strictly the player standpoint. But I place a lot of weight on what Chad Pennington will mean to Chad Henne on the sidelines. IMO, it's like having an extra QB coach and a great backup QB in one guy. Can we get a guy in the 2nd round next year who could do what Chad Pennington can do for us, both as a coach and player? Hard to say. I wouldn't be horribly upset if we traded Pennington for a 2nd. Especially with a capable FO. I'm just saying you can make a strong argument that Chad Pennington can do more for this team on and off the field than a lot of 2nd round draft picks.
Yea, I was going to say this FO hasn't been very good in the second round of the draft. I'd like to keep Pennington. Not only for his savvy and experience, but if Henne goes down, this offense is tailor made for Pennington.
Pat White seems to be the odd man out and even if they keep him around it would be Thigpen that is most likely to be traded IMO. You need a saavy veteran to back up your starter if you make a playoff run. Earl Morrall was such a player and he carried the team for most of that unbeaten championship 72 team before Griese was ready to play. I think Pennington would be just as valuable to this team.
