http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2010/08/09/jets-reject-darrelle-revis-latest-offer/ I love this, Ryan talked him up so much (Rightly so, he is great), that they are going to pay for it.
they were on sirius laughing and joking about how silly it was to say "its rexy's fault for building him up". ryan himself too. but its true. they built this guys ego into al davis sized proportions.
This is awesome. Hope it continues as long as possible. Rex Ryan & Darrelle Revis are probably two of the most arrogant people in all of sports.
awesome. pure awesome Marshall + Hartline vs Revis + Cro? advantage Jets Marshall + Hartline vs Cro + a rookie? Blowout city
I hope they trade him i would be perfectly happy with him playing with any team outside of the AFC east
I think Revis will sign a new deal before the start of the season or he'll end his holdout. I think this is simply a storyline for Hard Knocks. With the way television works today, that's honestly what I feel this is.
Not just Rex Ryan, but the entire Noo Yawk media. "Revis Island" is a myth, but it became true after constant repetition. In a more accurate world, whatever amount Revis is demanding would be split in half, and that leftover amount given to the safety who most often helps him.
I saw somewhere the owner of the Jets stated that "he cannot pay Revis the amount he wants and that he does not expect Revis to see the field in 2010". I will try to find the source.
Wow, we aren't even into the first pre-season game, and already the Egos are tearing them apart. Anyone got any popcorn?
They had Johnson on ESPN and Tannenbaum was next to him looking nervous as hell.....And Johnson didnt seem like the type of guy who was going to give into Revis's demands at all..... You have to think, the guy RUNS Johnson & Johnson (baby powder, Q-tips etc) he is a businessman, capitalist right?? He will pay the man market value or less, not an inflated worth made up by some deranged owner....and he should. Now the question really becomes, is Revis willing to forego a year on his NFL tenure?? If he is, then the he very well may holdout the whole year..... That being said....you holdout Rev, get your money, you are the best CB in the game bro!!! I hear you though, I wouldnt want to face Brandon Marshall either...
Actually, I hate it. I want to sweep the Jets again with him on the field. Anything else and they'll have excuses.
Not to the New York media though Pagan as you are well aware...they will hound the Jets!!!! Excuses or no excuses....they are going to crack under the pressure... I hear what your saying, I want teams at full strength all day...I want to beat the best (not saying the Jets are the best, but in general) at their best...
This is such a lose-lose predicament for the Jets, they don't pay Revis his money they lose their best player for the year, they do pay Revis his money they screw up their pay structure for years to come.
For the first time in my entire life..........I'm going to applaud the Jest. It's about time someone says shut the hell up you signed your contract years ago and now you're unhappy? Deal with it you put your name on the contact stick to it. It pisses me off more than anything when players B**** about the contract they signed.
Thing is Bass, they have paid so many people this year, that if the cap comes back next year, alot of these guys are getting let go anywaay....they are obviously going ba&ls to the wall to win out this year...so why not pay Rev...? I wonder if he would take a one year restructured year this year at say 15-16 million, like CJ2K did. That way you pay him top dollar, sit fat boy in a room, and tell him to STFU about Rev, hope he doesnt duplicate the numbers from last year, or the presence I should say, and then you (the Jets) have the negotiating advantage.....right now, Revis kinda has all the advantage..
Looking at the 2011 free agents for them... Santonio Holmes Braylon Edwards Shaun Ellis Antonio Cromartie David Harris Nick Mangold Brad Smith Eric Smith
I think the principle of the situation is why he's not getting paid. No cornerback is worth 16 million a year. They shouldn't be getting paid like top QBs get paid. Just because he has the money doesn't mean he's going to throw it away. Revis isn't helping himself that much. Nobody not named Al Davis is going to pay that much for a cornerback. This is a great situation for Dolphins fans. Rex Ryan and the NY media created this situation for themselves. They made his head swell too much.
The Revis story is like the anti-Favre story. I can't get enough of it and it just keeps getting better and better!
I agree muscle 100%, but the thing is there is one getting paid that much, regardless of who gave it and if he was on Viagra went he did it...I mean I would think the union is giving him a little pressure as well....but you are definately right, it doesnt look good and as well coming negotiating time between the players and the union, this doesnt look good either u know?
GH hahahahaha I told you we could come to some common ground!!!! no doubt, this is certainly fun to watch.....
Then again, the thought of Cromartie being their #1 corner and Marshall running over him 4-5 times a game IS appealing.
IMO Asomugha's deal was ridiculous. IIRC none of the next highest paid CBs make more than $10 million per year. Here's a chart I found: Name Guarantee (Million) 3 Year Total(Million) Average Per Year(Millions) Asante Samuel 23.6 32.1 9.5 Dunta Robinson 25.5 31.5 9.5 DeAngelo Hall 21.5 30.0 9.0 Nate Clements 21.6 29.0 8.9 Chris Gamble 23 23.4 8.8 http://www.nyjetscap.com/reviscontract.html I think that the NYJ's offer of $12 mill/per is more than reasonable.
He was on the field last year and they had excuses. We "got lucky" the first game, and the 2nd game we "should have lost" since they had more offensive yards. Apparently Special Teams and Defense don't count. The Jets are acting like Revis won't be playing this season. Is this true? Holmes is also out for the first 4 games. Either way the Jets seem screwed in 2011. They're either going to pay Revis and lose a bunch of other players, or lose Revis and still lose some other players since they have like 20 contracts coming to an end. Probably should've kept more than 4 draft picks this year. So instead of facing Revis and Holmes we're facing Cromartie[possibly] and Braylon Butterfingers. Well, let's not get too cocky, we don't want to jinx the Dolphins.
Is Revis that arrogant? I remember him being the only one not making excuses last year after losing to the Phins. When Bart Scott and the other guys were mouthing off, wasn't he the one who was telling them to shut up?
From the Gang Green: Gold, pure gold. PS - And before you ask -- No, the above post was not edited in any way for dramatic effect. http://forums.theganggreen.com/showthread.php?t=57959&page=91
I just hope the Jets aren't doing this for Hard Knocks ratings. The Jets are media whores, so I wouldn't put it past them just to settle everything right before the season starts and try and get as much press as possible. The Jets are the Lindsay Lohan of the NFL.
