Mornin' all: We'll see with Garner, I suspect when he is driven into the backfield on a running play consistently..someone else will have at bats. Great to hear about Will Allen, but Pennington's non recovery is worrisome, a ACL has a clear rehab path, a shoulder not so much as such injuries rarely happen to NFL Qb's.
Pity about RGM, he had a real shot at Returner but you cannot make an impression from the training table, I hope he can man up and make an impact even with a tweaked hammy. As for Micah Johnson..I liked him coming out of UK, but he had a dead slow 40 time and is more of a downhill player, however with Dobbins tweaking an ankle he has Opportunity knocking on his door as Folsom and Micah will probably be the ILB starters in the preseason with Dobbins knicked up.
IMO Garner is our best pass protector option at LG, but he is inferior to the other options as a run blocker (I haven't watched Proctor, so I don't have an opinion formed on him). I think they really want to be able to put a mauling type run blocker next to Long. Long and Thomas, for example, on the left side would cause a ton of problems in run defense for most any defense. But all those better run blocking options are giving up way too much in pass pro. They may end up with Garner by default if none of the better run blockers can step up their pass pro.
Exactly, and what is worse, this has been a problem for years since the heady days of Ndukwe and Alleman...
I'll agree with most of this. Garner may have few limitations in the running game but he way more than makes up for it with his ability to pass block. Weigh the odds. I would rather have good protection for Henne than have Donald Thomas in there even if he is a mauler in the run. I just hope they don't go back to rotating lineman . Said it before and I'll say it again. That just causes the possibility of mistakes and errors. Takes away how the group gels together. When they do that it makes me cringe. Pet peeve of mine.
I'd counter that with there are obvious situations to bring in Donald Thomas, i.e. 4th and 1 or trying to run it in 5 yards and in.
Especially when it is based on better skill, when Garner is in the game the tendency will be to pass, with Thomas, to run the ball. This Guard problem is vexing because we run the ball, but you have to pass to really succeed in the NFL, and with the Guards so limited the Offense has to use Max Protect schemes and that pulls Receivers out of patterns and into block.
Odd thing, normally by this time of day, there should be some information on the 40 play scrimmage last evening, and yet there is nothing at all about who did what on the offense. All I know is there were 10 (!) sacks given up (Charles Grant, Ty Culver, Jon Amaya all had 1 each, Dansby had 3, Wake 1, McCoy 1) but the other 30 plays..there has been no account at all of what happened. I wanted to hear how White and Thiggy performed.
Yeah I don't want a rotation either. I personally think it interferes with the line jelling or developing chemistry.
I'll go as far as to say they cant win with a rotation....guys consistantly coming in and out of games, based on sets....on top of it not being feasable, it actually gives away if you are running, or passing, if you scout good enough..
Is this guy's first name really Stylez?? Bucs RE Stylez G. White is shooting for double-digit sacks this season.
It is. He changed it legally. He chose it for Michael J. Fox's best friend in "Tenn Wolf", Styles. Seriously. Google it.
We certainly seem to be snake-bitten in our quest to get a returner. With Cobbs still hobbled and coming back of an ACL, Ginn gone, RGM slowed down, Sheets out for the year, Bess is mediocre at best and what is left is the young guys... I swear, since Wanny let Westhoff go, we've been nothing but mediocre to poor in returns, except for a few options with Ginn....Damn Wanny for screwing this team in yet another way....
It will get worked out Bro, look at it this way, two good returns by Nolan Carroll and he makes the team and is the Returner. And RGM is not out of the competition as of yet, so relax and just enjoy watching them fight like a pack of dingos trying to make the Squad. Actually, Keith Armstrong has done incredibly well in Atlanta, his unit has set records for fewest return yds allowed. Water under the bridge though, Bonamego had last yr's squad up to #12 in the NFL, the best finish in years.
Nice nugget about the Cb blitzes, and imho we have the personnel to do it, well maybe not Sean Smith.. As for Rolly...eh, looking like a camp body, but if he shows something in the preseason Fullback's are hard to find in the NFL, even Reagan Muaia is still in the NFL.
Yeah the CB's are big, strong, and fast....I can see Nolan taking advantage of their attributes, and sending them.....I can also see more than just sacks from getting popped by them too Pads, talking fumbles, strips, and take aways...
hahahah I thought I changed in time hahahah leave it to you to catch it meister meister!!!! thats what the Iraqi boys used to say to us...."Mista Mista, you want girl for feke feke?"
dont get fooled with those supposed slow 40 yard times, like brandon spikes he looks like a hero at pats camp, he is getting praised all over the place
Seriously though. It's gonna be hard for any QB to keep hold of their poop when they see Vontae coming in ears pinned back.
Well, the whole Cb crew runs 4.4's depending on Will Allen's recovery. Well, Sean Smith is a 4.5 guy, but even still, when you have that much speed on the edge, why not use it? Will Allen was the best Cb blitzer I've ever seen in the past, guy has the knack for it.
Yeah I agree....look instead at his embarassing back peddle and complete lack of range down the line or in space and his abysmal change of direction ..... it is much better to look at that than a 40 time.
Well, with physical ILB's you really need hitting and contact for their talent to come out, without a G trying to plant him, what could possibly be known about how he will play even during the preseason with just light contact?
I think Vontae would be a fantastic blitzer with his explosion and closing burst... I'm excited to see that...
Smith got a sack in the scrimmage. I wouldn't be so quick to assume that he couldn't be an effective blitzer.
FN, Nolan is really going to bring the heat this year, of all of the offseason moves the hiring of Mike Nolan is the one that has me hyped the most. There has not been an aggressive, attacking defense in Miami since Nick Saban's days, and even then it was manned with lesser quality personnel outside of Jason Taylor. DC Pasqualoni was staid, Dom Capers just did not have the pieces that he has now in Green Bay, now Nolan hired and he not only inherited players such as Davis, Smith, Bell, Wake, Langford, Starks, he was handed the keys to 8 out of 9 draft choices as well as Karlos Dansby being signed for mega bucks. The way I see it, Nolan is in a similar situation now as Nolan was in 03 with the Ravens.
Marvin Lewis pretty much called him out on Andre Smith, and now Saban is retaliating by being a whiny passive agressive control freak.
Quiet day on the Twitter front, just Carroll is still working on Returns and that is about it. Oglesby being injured is not good, but does allow more roster shuffling.
Hmm..I can recall his name being mentioned 3-4 times?] He had a sack last night in the scrimmage as well. Cat like McCoy has to play well in the preseason.
