Mornin' Grove is just knicked up to often. Odd to hear the name "Jason Allen" and "Dominant" in the same sentence and finding myself agreeing with the statement. Seems like Carroll is involved in the right units, Special Teams, Nickel Cb.
http://weblogs.sun-sentinel.com/sports/columnists/hyde/blog/2010/08/_1_im_still_turning.html David Hyde with a compact commentary. Imvho, Hyde is the best of the Dolphins Writers, I like his laid back style of prose.
Urban Meyer supposedly bans NFL scouts as well: http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2010/08/11/report-urban-meyer-blocks-nfl-scouts-too/ Not buying it, that is the downside to being a Football Factory, the players WANT to play in the NFL, if they believe the Coaches are blocking that it will put a damper on recruiting.
This Grove thing is starting to piss me off Pads.....how cant this clown stay healthy for more than 2 weeks....come on!!!!!!!
I do notice they are giving other players shots at learning to play Center. Still thinking Rotten Richie will have some run time at Center, it makes to much sense not to do so.
They are wise too, he isnt making it a full year, move on...he will breakdown...and look stupid on the sideline with his helmet in his hand, pretending he wants in there, like he did last year right around week 13 and on....the most cruical point of the season...
Thiggy has not had a good camp, for as much heat as White has caught, Tyler has been kinda bad for most of the summer. I mean..Jason Allen with a Int? Which tells me Cam was named the starter behind the scenes, that is why he wasn't on the Specials yesterday.
Either Nolan is a genius, or Tuna is not happy with what he is seeing out of the Oline... Eh, happens.
Hope that it is not serious with Garner as he may start at G, and is the Swing Tackle and Emergency Center.
CK liked Spitler's Special Teams play, but he appears to be effective blitzing in practice..so who knows>?
Odie has improved since week #1, Big Jake was engulfing him last week. With Grant and Douglas in the mix, we have quality depth and young playmakers on the Dline.
Should make for an interesting watch during the preseason, Alen thinks Soliai's light came on last season, I've felt he is/was more of a 4-3 DT and would like to see him on passing downs to see if he can just collapse the pocket.
I just want to settle on an o-line already. That unit was the least of my concerns coming into this season and I hope it doesn't become one.
Sounds like the D-line is definitely coming together. Unfortunately, it doesn't sound like the same can be said of the O-line.
Pod, If Grove doesn't make it this year, I wonder how much your boy Irish has blown on signing bonuses for mid level free agents, its getting a little crazy no?......not sure how that doesn't come back to bite us in the *** eventually.... Berger is not what this team's needs at center... Shelf Grove's his *** for 2 weeks and let him heal.
Good to hear, like Odie was being eaten by Big Jake, the Beast was schooling the youngsters last week, this week they are keeping up.
I think Omark is under estimating Cam Wake's ability, it is not that Murtha/Gardner are poor tackles, it is more that Wake IS that good of a passrusher.
Grove and Garner are the more serious as they were probably starters. No real news as to the extent of Garner's issue. 10 to 1 odds...Sparano calls it a "nick"? (j/K)
This Jake Grove stuff shouldnt surprise anyone. He was injury prone in Oakland before we traded for him. Smiley was also injury prone in SF.
Sparano presser: RGM's hammy will sink his chances of making the club. Nolan's response is interesting concerning Brandon Marshall.
I'm not worried at all about our pass rush. I've been saying all last season and this off season that we had talent there, but were simply playing vanilla schemes. As for the OL, Sparano has shuffled the line all TC the last two years and then tried to build consistency once the preseason started. It seems like he's doing the exact same thing this year, so I don't see any reason to panic. The injuries are always a concern of course. Hopefully, the Garner injury turns out to just be a "nick". I'd just let Grove's bruise heal for a week or two and get him in there for the second or third game. That being said, I think that Berger is more than fine at C. And even though I'm loving the exotic blitzes we've been practicing, it wouldn't surprise me at all if we saw a vanilla D against TB. I don't think there's much reason to start tipping our hand until the games start counting. I wouldn't be all that surprised if people started calling Dumervil a "poor man's Wake". I think people under estimate J. Allen's talent. He is a guy who has made plays in both practice and games. The problem is that his consistency (or maybe its focus) has been poor so he's also given up plays. It seems that people mostly remember the plays he's given up. I feel very comfortable with him as the 4th or 5th CB. I don't think it's a stretch to believe that he may be the best 4th or 5th CB on any team in the league. That may not be what you want from a 1st round pick, but where he was picked is irrelevant in deciding whether he should be part of the team now.
Well, it was Chris Clemons all along, I'd thought Ty Culver had the inside track but that 4.33 is hard to argue with.
I figured that JA wouldn't be a good fit for the nickel anyway and Will Allen would be there. Nolan Carroll? Wouldn't that be something...trade WA?
Sound like if Clemons doesnt step on his own you know what this Saturday, consider this competition closed... Omar Kelly is reporting that Dolphins' coach Tony Sparano said, "If Chris Clemons does well on Saturday vs. Tampa he's close to writing his name in pen as the starting free safety." As expected, Clemons is starting to pull away from his competition, and Sparano's comments only serve to solidify previous sentiments. Clemons has above average speed and decent ball skills, but it remains to be seen if he can be productive enough to become the long term answer for the team.
Will Allen I would suspect. I'd hate to have it be Carroll (just since he is a rookie) but he has been seeing snaps their if I have read the camp updates correctly. If not WAllen or Carroll, I'd imagine Vontae given his athleticism.
I'd suspect Jason Allen would be on the block with Carroll becoming the dime Cb and Will Allen playing the nickel. Carroll would then be the Dime and fill JA role on kicks as well as Returning them. I've followed the Dolphins for several yrs now, and I've never heard Jason Allen receiving as much praise from the HC as Sparano is heaping on him.
Just when the Clemson Stank was removed when Merling was injured, now we have another Tiger as a starter...
