You're arguing for the sake of arguing. In general, you don't want your returner dancing around habitually.

You want your returner doing the best job they think they can, if that means a couple of stutter steps one way or another, if it works, what does it matter?

Clemson is Florida...without the legal problems...:D

Adamp has liked C Clemons since last season so I was having a bit of fun with the Falkland Island resident.

If J.A. plays the boundary then any of the other CBs would just bump inside. It's easier to play corner when you have a sideline to help you so teams often move one of their starters inside when they bring in the 3rd CB.

That quote by Sparano on Clemons is one of the most surprising things I've heard this off season. Not so much that Clemons looks like a lock to start since it was obvious he had the inside track from the beginning, but rather that Sparano would say it. That's almost akin to saying "Henne is our QB and everybody else is fighting for #2". Except that Clemons was coming off of a rookie season where he mostly looked lost and is now being given that near unquestioned starter label before the first preseason game.

Amazing..shocking...in 4yrs I've never heard "dominant" 'the light has come on" or "no one got his hands on as many balls as Jason Allen this training camp".

    Something is fishy here...:shifty:

Who is this player and what did they do with Jason Allen?

Well it's not like I'm saying the returner should go all Patrick Cobbs and just run straight into a pile.

I'm just saying you don't want to make dancing around a habit because it can kill you more than it can help you.

Maybe it's the blocking scheme Padre, but you may be reading too much into it. I think he/they simply mean run forward not sideways. In other words, don't waste a lot of effort trying to make something out of nothing. Just take what they give you (i.e., positive yardage). The occasional homerun should still be there for the taking.

    JMHO...

I think they mean don't pull a Chris Williams... field a punt at the 5 yard line and then dance backwards.

On a perfectly blocked punt return you're generally asking the returner to beat one guy on his own. But you have to beat that guy quickly. If you spend too much time dancing then other defenders will get off their blocks and your blocking scheme goes to ****.

    Define "too much time"?

What I am saying is that is up to the Returner, let them decide, if they fail then they won't be in Miami in September.

Interesting about the new Cb bodies, and Carroll seems to have become a fixture on the kickoff return rotation.

BTW, the Sparano presser today is a must listen, he is explaining what Brandon Marshall is going to do in the middle of the field and why the Te's were so unproductive in 09.

Just saw it on a tweet in the practice roundup.

Just say no to Frank Walker. Dude is a pass interference machine. Seeing lots of Ravens games up here, I can honestly say you could hear the collective sigh of relief when they let him go.

If we're talking about Jason Allen, I wouldn't get too excited yet. It's 13 days into practice.

And we shouldn't have had to wait until the 4th year to get production(or in this case, good word out of Training Camp) out of the #16 overall pick. That is in fact INSANE!

Each season is a different story, what happened in 08 means nothing in 010, if Jason Allen suddenly blooms, then GREAT, we could use the help.

part of that blame has to lie with Saban and Cameron however. Ever since Parcells and compnay showed up he's been improving every year

That's fine and I'll be very happy with that. But let's not act as though the past 3 seasons haven't been a relative failure with respect to his salary/bonuses and draft position.

It's not an overreaction when the fans are frustrated that a #16 overall pick is solely a ST player in his 3rd year in the league.

Part of the blame, sure......but I'd define part as like 15%

Even under Sparano and Parcells he barely gets on the field in nickel packages. Had W. Allen not gotten hurt this past year, he'd probably never have seen the field at all except on ST.

There was no excuse for him not taking Smith's place in the starting lineup last season. It was his 2nd TC under the same coaches and he still failed to supplant a rookie. Even after W. Allen got hurt, the coaches still had more confidence in sending V. Davis, a 2nd rookie, out there.

With JA, I was happy enough with his Special Teams play being outstanding, but felt that was underachieving as he was a Cb, and a 16th pick etc.

My goal for him this yr was simply to make the pro bowl as the Special Teams rep, if he had done that much, I'd have been satisfied with him.

I think Nolan is a genius
& Parcells is never happy w/ either side of the trenches (offense or defense)
    having said that
we have tremendous talent & the best coaching available
the offensive line will be just fine by the time season begins

my best guess @ this point:
    Long-Incognito-Grove-Thomas-Carey
rotating the guards on a regular basis during the game
I think they are looking to build a platoon system

I know, I know, already heard it
when I originally made the post earlier in the year
    but that's what I think...

I'm not saying we shouldn't have expected better production earlier, just pointing out some evidence which goes against what seems to be a massive trend here of writing players off too soon. People say to give rookies three years to develop, but in reality everyone is up in arms if they don't do anything by the end of year two. If they don't succeed in year three, that's it. I'm not saying give everyone a free pass forever, but on a case by case basis when the potential is there it is worth the investment especially when that player is a contributor in a portion of the game. (J. Allen - Special Teams, T. Ginn - Returns, Pat White - Wilcat, etc..)

...and even though it's only been in practice, in most people's eyes Jason Allen improved significantly last year and this seems to be a continuation of that trend. It is exciting because the problems Allen has had in the past have been largely associated with awareness and positioning etcetera, things that are learned. Things that he has had trouble with in the past but perhaps has put behind him?

    Rock on Bro..

I don't think we will see a true platoon system though, I think if Garner is seriously nicked up, we see John Jerry start as a Rook with Thomas or Incognito across from him.

For all of the reps Chris Clemons has gotten with the 1st and 3rd teams, John Jerry has dropped anchor at RG and gotten the tons of Reps.

I'd almost bet they but Charles Grant on the Rook to school him on what a Wiley, Hungry Vet can do to a Guard.

Right on, now to my eyes, JA really improved last season at the end of the yr, he was targeted by Brady and Big Ben and did a good job, including breaking up two TD passes, one to Moss the other to Wallace.

When Vontae broke his wrist, JA stepped in and there wasn't a huge drop off in the level of play, so I can see where he "maybe" had things come together for his career.

I will admit though, there is a small part of my thinking that believes Sparano is hyping Jason Allen so he can be traded, there are several teams in dire need of a Starting Caliber Cb who is ready to contribute.

His special teams play would only help his trade value as we are moving towards the first round of roster cuts.

Well, there are those two wasted seasons 06-07-07-08 where Jason Allen was pretty much forgotten as he tried to play Safety (decently imho) and Cb (horribly in 08).

Not even Cam Cameron had good things to say about Jason Allen, in fact it took losing 5 Safeties before they would let him out onto the field..man..:D

I can recall JA starting out on Special Teams and not grasping the whole "cannot run out of bounds and be the first player to touch the ball back in bounds" rules thingy..

It took him a solid yr to learn Specials...small wonder it took him 3 to learn Cb..:chuckle:
