Well now, Jason Allen comes full circle, when Lil nicky drafted him he mentioned that he could play corner or safety..now we will see if he has anything to offer.

JA..man..he used to be one of my guys to watch for improvement, when he starred on special teams I thought that was his ceiling, now we will find out as #32 will have a target on his back the moment when he lines up on a Wr.

Vonte, Smith, Allen, and Carroll can do a good job. You put Will Allen back into that mix and I think your going to be fine. I still think our biggest problems last year were the play of the safties and LB's covering TE's than the CB's.

Hopefully with the change in defense that Nolan brings, some pressure on the QB, we give the CB's and LB's a more of a chance this year. Only time will tell.

Very interessted to see if Nolan Carroll and Nate Ness can transfer the positives they have shown so far to the field in a game when the bullets are actually firing.

The veteran aspect is maybe overplayed, many young / rookie CB's have stepped in and contributed. We saw that right here last year , albeit with growing pains.

Miami won't be counting on them to start though , so they can grow as the season unfolds and , fingers crossed, Will Allen can actually contribute in a significant way in a not too distant future.

Jason Allen has managed to survive so far despite being a washout basically except for special teams , and may have his best days still ahead of him. He deserves an extended audition at CB , and will now get that

I'm very concerned about our secondary. Hopefully some of these kids start making plays back there.

In fairness, the report (and others I've read) only state he's out for the preseason. I have no reason to doubt the accuracy of those reports, he should be back for the bulk of the regular season I would think.

I'm not as concerned about W. Allen. Going back in to clean up loose debris is fairly common, so I don't see this as an indication that he won't recover. Obviously it's a set back b/c he misses practice time and can't exert as much vet influence, but it's not damning. IMO there's no reason to believe that he won't be back for 15 or 16 games of the regular season. And if he is I think we have one of the strongest CB units in the league (safety is a different story). Now you have to bring in bodies for camp and as a just in case, but I'm not any more concerned about our secondary than I was going into camp. And I actually feel better about 5th CB due to Carroll's surprising showing thus far. If W. Allen was to miss significant time, then I'd rate our CBs with J.A. at the nickel as about middle of the pack at worst (again, not including the safeties).

    the three whipping boys:
Jason Allen, Paul Solai & Channing Crowder
will be redeemed under the Nolan Defense

yes, the FreeSafety remains our Achilles heel
& the inexperienced DefensiveBack our weak link

This is a non story. We have our two starterrs returning healty and very confident under the new nolan scheme. And will allen isnt hurt he just cleaned his knee out. there are 40 year olds who do that on a regular basis bc of golf, so Im not that worried about him. And by all reports J.Allen has been doing well in camp so if he is our 4th cb we r in great position. look at other #4 cbs in the league. I think we have one of the best. And rounding of our group is a rookie that has been outstanding and is expected to contrivute so relaz everyone, our CBs r just fine

I see the local guys have finally found something to complain about. It was weird, almost two weeks into camp and none of them have really complained. So much for that streak.

    Will Allen will be fine.

I wouldn't call it a renaissance. It's just the understanding +90% of the CBs get beaten for the catch +50% of the time. I'd imagine it's even higher for anybody playing in the slot. The important part is that the CB be able to make the tackle immediately after the catch and if he doesn't that you have a S in position to limit the YAC. So if J.A. is forced into action in the nickel and makes as many plays as he gives up, he should be no worse than most every other CB in the league. The key will be the play of Clemons and his ability to be an eraser back there whenever any of our CBs or front seven players miss.

I knew we wouldn't be able to count on Will Allen's health.
That is the very reason I figured him in the nickel. He will be back more than likely but he won't start. I keep telling people this kind of stuff but ya'll have deaf ears. :wink2:

I still think Will Allen is the best CB on the roster. But his health is just not going to let up. As a nickel we're fine. Smith and Davis will be ok, Nolan Carroll and Jason Allen are ok as backups. Besides, he shouldn't miss much more than the regular season which is fine since we don't need to see what he can do. I'd much rather he miss the preseason matter of fact.

If VD and SS play up to their potential and correct the rookie mistakes from last year this is a minimal issue.

I fully expect them to be solid lock down starters back there, with or without Will Allen. But even if Allen is back it makes us that much stronger and more stable. Because no doubt it hurts not having him in the lineup, he's consistent as they come.

Classic JA..however he actually did make plays in the last couple of games, he negated two TD catches and generally looked "okay".

Statements like this remind me of why Parcells & co have no love for the media. Not just trouble, "deep, deep trouble". GTFOH. Will Allen missed 9 games last year, and he was slated to be the nickel corner in 2010. Who writes an article saying that a team will be in "deep, deep trouble" if they lose their 32 year old nickel back who's coming off of an ACL tear? C'mon man.

We're in deep trouble if Dansby, Brown, Marshall, Long, Carey, Henne, Starks, etc go down. Will Allen? No.

over all we have talent & depth throughout the defensive backfield
the problem, as I see it, is experience to go along w/the depth & talent
    having said that
maybe they can compensate, to a degree, through coaching & a w/ ferocious front seven

Im pretty confident our young Cornerback tandem will come good. Playing Cornerback isnt the easiest position especially when you are Rookies. Considering that and the way they both showed they did not look out of place fills me more with confidence than dread going into this season. Jason Allen has never shown he was worth the high pick but hes hung around and maybe, just maybe he may show up and become a solid if not an elite Defensive Back. Im hoping Carroll is a diamond in the rough. Its been a few drafts since we have had a low pick player come through and cemented a place in the defense. I for one dont think its such a glaring weakness that some ppl think.
