sprinklers, snow plows, whatever ... no excuse for losing & although the thread is about losing I would like to point out two important wins: 1) Don Shula & the only NFL Perfect Season 2) the Parcellian Revolution & a Decade of Dominance (2010-2020) you can bet the farm on this one
This. IMO, that loss marks the turning point in franchise history. We have never been the same since. 1-15 is nothing compared to that loss.
Well if this thread doesn't make you want to jump down an elevator shaft!!! I can't even pick between the Monday nightmare and Marino's last game in JAX. I remember the f'ing fireworks going off before the game was over...I even think they turned on the sprinkler system or something. That was sickening. I'll never forget either of those days.
just worth repeating... I would like to point out two important wins: 1) Don Shula & the only NFL Perfect Season 2) the Parcellian Revolution & a Decade of Dominance (2010-2020)
Many to consider, as have been suggested. The Monday nightmare, the playoff loss to SD in '82, the snowplow game, the sea of hands game, man oh man...too many bad memories. But, the game that was the hardest to watch for me, without question, was Marino's last game against Jax in the playoffs. Brutal, simply brutal. Damn shame he had to end his career that way.
IIRC...Mark Higgs was injured and they started Aaron Craver at tailback (ugh), the O-Line couldn't block the Bills D-line and the defense fumbled away their own fumble recoveries. That game should've been against the Oilers to begin with, if not for their incompetent coaching staff and poor officiating in the greatest "comeback" of all time. The sad part is if the Dolphins could've won that game, they'd have played Dallas in the SB, a team that they beat the very next season in Dallas with much the same personnel and coaching staff, without Marino at QB. I the Dolphins would have matched up well in that SB. That was the next best opportunity to XIX for Marino to win a SB. The other ones being the '90 season (already beaten by the Giants that year pretty handily) and '94 (didn't match up well against the 49ers).
I remember the Phins-Chargers OT game like it was yesterday....I was in 10th grade and life was good. Kellen Winslow couldn't be stopped. I think we were down around 24 points in the first half and made a huge comeback. Uwe von Schaumann blew it....twice. Ohh that one hurt.
Talk about bad juju... I remember they were already printing the Miami vs. Dallas Superbowl items BEFORE the Bills game. When I saw that on TV I was hoping it wouldn't jinx it...
For me it has to be the Sea of Hands game. Had we won we could have been the only team to win three straight SB's out of 4 straight trips to the party, so close yet so very far!
