http://weblogs.sun-sentinel.com/spo...og/2010/08/hyde_ten_thoughts_on_dolphins.html -Agree about Soliai, has anyone, at any time, seen Randy Starks playing NT at a high level in either practice or during this past game? I know he had some good pub from the 08 Ravens game, but still.. As for Pat White, I agree with Hyde and Mike B, Sparano is not going for Pat White the Qb, when Sparano decides on a player, that is pretty much it for them in Miami and they do not care if it is a Star or a high draft pick, pack your bags, you won't be here for very much longer. They cut Beck and Roth and did not even blink, they gave Ted Ginn away, once in the dog house, that is where you will stay. Actually, now that I think about it: Beck..#42 overall Roth #46 overall Satele #57 overall Ginn #9 overall Porter All Decade Team Taylor, once via trade, once by FA Smiley big $$ FA Wilford Big money FA Wilson Big money FA The Sparanophins will get a player out of town quick..
Agreed on White not being here long (unless he embraces a position switch, but even then , it's too late). Agree Soliai may be a bit more motivated, but also played #2's on a crap team. Also, Pads, you were magnificent on Sick's show. I heart boobies too. lol.
3. No matter how sloppy Saturday was, I'm not worrying about this Dolphins offense in preseason. I have exceptions to this statement. Not that I'm too worried about the offense, but there is certainly a history, under this regime, with this team starting slow both offensively and defensively and that falls directly on Sparano. Sometime, I'd like to see us start fast and whoop up on someone that we should...we rarely do that...
Eh, that burst to recover the fumble had nothing to do with the #2's though Bpk. If ya gotta go, go with a smile.
i wonder if we would've seen more of pat white had the score not been as close as it was.no matter the reason that was pretty insulting to pw.i expect better from coach as he is always saying he tells it straight to his players.shouldv'e just left thigy in for the hand-off and kneels cause whats 3 more play counts.kinda hard to evaluate his qb progression when all he is doing is kneeling.i'm not a fan of the white pick but that was a shi^^y thing to do to anyone.lost a little respect for sporano last night but it is what it is i guess.
Actually if you just watch Starks in the first half you will walk away with mixed reviews. Some plays he occupied double teams and held the center very well. A few times he had some great penetration especially on passing downs. Other times he was moved around a lot more than I would like to see.
I don't see the big deal about White. Why is there an assumption that they suddenly lost faith? The more reasonable assumption is that they just elected to play Thigpen in this game and WHite in the next. If White doesn't get significant reps next game then I could see some validity. Starks played very well at NT and DT several times last year. In fact in the last game of the season he played inside about on 40% of his snaps. That being said I'm thrilled about Soliai. If he can play that well against starters then I'd prefer him to get a chunk of the run down snaps.
I think White gets the majority of the snaps in game 2....... I also think he was held out do to the conditions. The coaches were probably concerned with him getting killed while trying to pull his feet out of the mud.... that mud is no place for a guy his size.
This. Word for word. I thought they were gonna get Thiggy some reps with 2-3rd teams and White the same in the next game so they have less things to have to factor in to each respective performance.
sometimes a bad thing is a good thing... takes pressure to form a diamond & skill to cut it into a jewel the coaching cadre is under pressure they have the skills to make the cut we may see our jewel begin to emerge starting w/ Jacksonville week two last night might of been the best of all possible results for Miami @ this point in the game
I think Hyde was spot on but for one or two points. Imvho you play like you practice and the more you sweat the less you bleed! Every preseason game should mean something to each player or just cut them out and play for real!! The weather and the mud,, pleasssssssssssseeeeeeeeeeeeee! We have dealt with it since forever and I, for one, want no excuses from the highest paid WR in the league, Catch the Dang Ball!! If we can, and should, heep praise on some guy picked up off the street then I can and will call the Marshall out about leaving his weapons in his gun safe at the office!! Paul didn't get to pick who he played against and he played lights out imho. We have got us some diamonds in the ruff guys, I like what I see in both Moore and Wallace, while Turner was ok Wallace was as good and cheaper plus is working on his ST ability. Let Turner go! BTW While I love me some Greg Camarillo something is very wrong with him and I think its time to say bye, bye! IMVHO it should be Marshall, Hartline, Bess, Moore, and Wallace. As for Mr. Henne he was a bit off on some off his throws and while Marshall (and Hartline btw) should catch the ball! Henne has to put it in a spot that gives them a real chance exp when the weather is bad! You know we do play the real games in bad weather don't you and are expected to win, also, btw. When you have to reach two feet behind you or three feet in front of you (I had to come back and ask forgiviness here as the ball in front of Marshall was not three feet ahead as I first thought, Henne was right on that throw, my bad eyes I stand by the rest!) or even worse land in the mud to even have a chance to catch it you can blame it on the weather if YOU want to, I will not! All that aside we have some pretty good lower round and street guys worthy of hard looks who could/should make this team. I won't name them again as Hyde did a great job of doing that and I agree with his name calling 110%. Oh, as for Pat, who?, White sorry it was nice knowing ya!
i kinda felt just the opposite about this.why not put pw in and see if he can handle the adversity of the inclement weather.we practice in a bubble if it starts to rain now so this preseason game wouldv'e been great for pat..why wait till a real game to see how he does in these conditions?i worry about the guy getting killed out there even on a sunny day.we kept having henne throw screens because it's something he needs practice at well white needs practice(as does thiggy but he got his 20-30 snaps) too no?and i realize sometimes adjustments must be made in game but we could'nt give the kid 1 series that doesn't involve kneeling to run out the clock?
That's not how most coaches plan it out. They (and Sparano specifically) usually go by a snap count. The Dolphins probably planned to give Thigpen a certain number of snaps. Due to the way the game progressed (few snaps), he didn't reach that number until very late. That's why I think that all of the White hoopla after this game was ridiculous.
If this coaching staff didn't want White, he would have already been cut. All this speculation that they've lost faith in baseless. They're not going to waste a roster spot on someone they don't have the faith in to play in preseason.
I just wish if the plan was to play White more in the second game they would tell people that. Why not?
