Marshall drops 3 passes in practice, punts football

So he DIDN'T drop three passes, punt the ball and decide to bypass the jugs machine while all of his fellow wideouts did just that?

Punting the ball, sulking, then being the only WR not practicing at the jugs machine isn't immature? ok ;)

yes but you misunderstood the comparison. it wasn't to say Marshall = TO. But that marshall may continue to be marshall of old, and not the new and improved Marshall that everyone, including myself, wants to see. So we'll leave it at that. :knucks:

I tend to agree with you. In fact, on Sick's radio show tonight, Conuficus and I got into it about whether this matters or not. As an isolated incident, this isn't a big deal, but I am of the opinion that if this is how he is going to continue to deal with adversity (be it management issues, frustration over dropping passes, etc.), then we can expect more of these types of things.

I suppose it is an inherent cost when dealing with Marshall. He isn't exactly a boyscout. But it still makes me roll my eyes and wish he channeled his anger/frustration/emotions in a more positive output. Going to the jugs machine would have been one way of doing that.

I really thinka leader of this team (Parcells, Sparano, Henne, etc.) needs to talk to him and make sure he is okay and try to steer him in the right direction.

Pennington might actually be the perfect guy to handle this actually.

    It's aggravation, not immaturity.

If this becomes a regular habit, then we have a problem. Right now, it's nothing.

    Agree to disagree, then. :hi5:

What's not being considered is that it's likely someone did talk to him or at least plans to.......I don't sense that this is the type of team atmosphere where one guy, any guy..... is going to go rogue and it go unchecked.

No, an NFL player was displeased with his performance and chose to react to it by kicking the ball over a fence and then brooding on the sideline.

In other news, these men all practiced with some mistakes and managed NOT to do the above:

Fair enough, but none of those men can do the type of things we need Marshall to do on sundays. Let him brood. Let him get pissed. Clearly whatever he's doing as a football player is working. Hes on pace with Jerry Rice for receptions.

Well, this is true, but I have it on good authority that Richie Incognito punted a baby over the fence after allowing three sacks.

and Brandon Fields, upon shanking three punts, decided to catch a ball on a sluggo route and took it to the house.

    Very unprofessional on his part.

I wasn't there, but I'm guessing there were a thousand more newsworthy things going on in practice today. Instead, we're writing articles about how Mr. 100+ catches per season dropped a few passes in team drills. It's weak, its lazy, it's sensationalized, and at some point it'll become subversive.

Marshall has gone out of his way, and outside of team protocol, to make himself available to the media. And now these same reporters are running their ink wells dry talking about how he dropped a couple passes. Mando blogged on it, Berardino is interrogating him after the game, Volin's joining the chorus today. All about a non-issue. Reason #478 why Parcells & Co. hate the media.

He deserves the scrutiny. Marshall has been known to drop a lot of passes in his career. He also catches a lot, but he does drop quite a bit, some point out he does this while positioning his body to run after the catch, and he loses concentration for a bit.

Gotta agree that this is way overblown. Marshall is in a funk for the last week it seems. He's probably pressing too hard and its effecting his game. Every and I mean every player goes through this. I'll be worried if this continues into the regular season. As for his reaction he's just showing frustration. I honestly don't know what the big deal is

According to this, he's tied for 16th in the NFL in dropped passes with the likes of Andre Johnson, Randy Moss, and Antonio Gates.

    Not seeing a problem.

well in a career when you are targeted so much ,i would expect you also have the most drops. He has 3 times the touches of the avg receiver probably. Marshall will be fine imo.

I'm nervous he could throw Henne under the bus, but not much. He has already stated Henne throws a great ball, with a down arch that he likes

Desides I jumped the gun I think. You seemed nervous about Marshal, and so I made a point that he'll be ok, but tried to give back something to the people with questions of character and what this little fun means. MY BAD! But to be honest he has maybe not thrown a qb under the bus but he did a team, when he went out on the practice field playing whack-a-mole with passes lol.

Edit; And I was agreeing with ya on the post just, stating the possibility heH's frustrated with the cannon balls Henne fires he'll get It I know! And why cut out my end of the sentence saying how Marshall loves a Henne ball it was relevent to the statement imo

Nah, I'm defending Marshall here. My worries lie with Henne.

Jay Cutler has a live arm and Marshall caught 200 passes from him. I think he'll be okay with regards to adjusting for velocity.

is it really any different then this......

YouTube- J.J. Putz strikes out Alex Rios, Rios breaks bat over knee

YouTube- Carlos Zambrano breaks bat over knee......

or when a basebal player strikes out and tosses his helmet into the dugout? how about when a pitcher gives up a few homeruns and throws his glove into the dugout and kicks the gatorade container?

    these guys are competitive.

Tom Brady out of reaction, called his offensive line "fat ****ing cows" during a inter-scrimmage with the saints last week, with media everywhere and fans. did he mean it? no. was it him getting pissed and reacting without thinking out of anger? yes.

not seeing a problem with bradys career thus far.

peyton manning, dan marino had huge meltdowns on the sidelines and on the field.....any issues with them?

its a athlete being competitive and getting pissed off at himself for performing below his standards. should he have buckled his chin strap and go play better? maybe. thats just a opinion, however he handles it, is his business.....if it needs discussing within the team, iam sure it'll happen.

this is a none issue........cant wait till saturday

As long as Marshall gets his act on the field together and catches passes regularly (which I'm sure he will), this is a non issue. While it is maybe an immature reaction to punt the ball, it just shows he's competitive, and isn't going to settle for bad play from himself. Which, at this point is a good thing.

Exactly, the obsession over Marshall is not healthy.

It will be a clear Saturday night up in Jacksonville, we take the opening drive for a TD, BMarsh catches the TD, and winds up clowning around with Henne on the sidelines for the next 45 minutes.

Brandon Marshall has caught over 300 passes the last 3 years. He doesn't need the JUGS machine. What he needed was exactly what Sparano let him have. A little time to cool down and clear his head. Drops are mental for a receiver of his caliber. He needed a mental break. He got one.

    Let's see what happens today.

On a side note, we heard about the 3 drops, but did he catch any passes at practice yesterday. Was he only targeted 3 times the entire practice? I find that hard to believe.

Sure as hell hoping I'm wrong but:

It seems the behavioral patterns of Marshall have only been reinforced between the time he was traded from Denver, and the time he signed the $50 Million dollar contract. His actions in Denver were awarded with a huge paycheck (which is not to say his level of play didn't deserve it), and in so justified in his eyes.

Something no one will admit, but it seems people don't "grow/change" when circumstances are most favorable (in this case, the big payday in an absolutely gorgeous town). I think the Brandon Marshall (Brandon the Dolphin) we all expect will have to be forged within the fires of adversity. All I'm saying is, having been placated with an enormous contract may not have necessarily helped Brandon to "grow" into a mature adult.

I recall a Broncos fan posting shortly after it was announced that Brandon Marshall was to come play in Miami. I now understand where they were coming from.

Now, this is strictly a shallow assessment of Brandon the character, and not Brandon the player or even Brandon the person, so please don't read too much into this.
