Variety says that Nicholas Hoult will play Beast and Caleb Landry Jones will play Banshee in X-Men: First Class, to be directed by Matthew Vaughn.

They join James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender and Alice Eve, who are set to play Charlies Xavier, Erik Lensher and Emma Frost, respectively.

Conceived by Bryan Singer and written by Jane Goldman, X-Men: First Class introduces Xavier and Lensherr as young men, when discovering their powers for the first time and before taking the names Professor X and Magneto, respectively.

Jennifer Lawrence is Mystique in X-Men: First Class

Heat Vision reports that Jennifer Lawrence (Winter's Bone) will play Mystique in 20th Century Fox's X-Men: First Class, and Variety has confirmed that Kevin Bacon has signed to play the villain, though which character is still under wraps.

The two join James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Alice Eve, Nicholas Hoult and Caleb Landry Jones in the Matthew Vaughn-directed film, hitting theaters on June 3, 2011. Variety lists Aaron Johnson as part of the cast as well, but he has yet to be confirmed.

X-Men: First Class, following the classic Marvel mythology, charts the epic beginning of the X-Men saga. Before Charles Xavier and Erik Lensherr took the names Professor X and Magneto, they were two young men discovering their powers for the first time. Before they were archenemies, they were closest of friends, working together, with other Mutants (some familiar, some new), to stop the greatest threat the world has ever known. In the process, a rift between them opened, which began the eternal war between Magneto's Brotherhood and Professor X's X-Men.

Kevin Bacon makes a good villain. He played that role well in Hell's Kitchen.

BFI's Movie-Con III is in full effect in London right now and ComingSoon.net's man abroad Ben Mortimer has learned that actor Jason Flemyng, last seen playing Calibos in Louis Letterier's Clash of the Titans and in a small role in Matthew Vaughn's Kick-***, will be reteaming with Vaughn for a role in X-Men: First Class. That role will be Azazel, who was described as a "teleporter" during Flemyng's presentation for Jonathan English's Ironclad, but who is in fact none other than Nightcrawler's father!

The character first appeared in "Uncanny X-Men" #428 in a storyline called "The Draco" where we finally learned that Kurt Wagner a.k.a Nightcrawler was the son of the lead of an ancient race of mutants, from biblical times no less, who looked like demons and who could teleport by opening portals into other dimensions. In the comics, Azazel had been banished to the "Brimstone dimension" by angels, but left that dimension to father children, one of them being Nightcrawler. It's likely we might just see Azazel in a small role but if he's in the movie, can Nightcrawler be far behind?

Flemyng told the Movie-Con crowd that like Calibos, his character will involve a lot of make-up, and that he'll have a tail, which will be added in post-production.

With shooting on Matthew Vaughn's X-Men: First Class gearing up to start in London at the end of the month, the cast is coming together very quickly. One key role that's closer to being cast now is Dr. Moira MacTaggert with word coming from The Hollywood Reporter that "Damages" co-star Rose Byrne is in talks for the part.

MacTaggert is a scientist specializing in genetic mutation who was introduced in the early days of Claremont and Cockrum's days on "Uncanny X-Men," #96 in fact. She showed up to be Professor X's housekeeper, but it wasn't long before her true significance to Professor X, the X-Men and mutantkind would be unveiled. A year after the character was introduced, it was revealed in flashbacks that MacTaggert was actually Professor Xavier's ex-girlfriend and apparently, she will be playing that role in Vaughn's prequel which will be going back to the early days of the X-Men.

This means that so far, the confirmed cast is:

James McAvoy as Charles Xavier a.k.a Professor X
Rose Byrne as Dr. Moira MacTaggert
Mike Fassbender as Erik Lehnsherr a.k.a Magneto
Nicholas Hoult as Hank McCoy a.k.a. Beast
    Jennifer Lawrence as Mystique
Caleb Landry Jones as Sean Cassidy a.k.a. Banshee
Lucas Till as Alex Summers a.k.a Havoc
    Edi Gathegi as Darwin
Alice Eve as Emma Frost a.k.a. The White Queen
Kevin Bacon as an unspecified villain (rumored to be Sebastian Shaw but also possibly Mr. Sinister?)
    Jason Flemyng as Azazel

That seems to only leave a few roles left, including Scott Summers/Cyclops, which would be expected with his brother Alec appearing in the movie, and Nightcrawler, which would make sense with Azazel appearing in the movie

Will play a character called the Man in Black
Oliver Platt is the latest to join the cast of X-Men: First Class, reports Deadline.

Platt's role is listed as "the Man in Black" and seems to be an original character created specficially for the film. News of his casting comes on the heels of this morning's report that Rose Byrne will appear in the film as Moira MacTaggert, joining an ever-expanding cast that includes James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Rose Byrne, Alice Eve, Kevin Bacon, Nicholas Hoult, Jennifer Lawrence, Caleb Landry Jones, Lucas Till, Edi Gathegi and Jason Flemyng.

The most conspicuous absence in the cast so far is an actor for the role of Scott Summers (aka Cyclops).

    X-Men: First Class opens June 3, 2011.

XMF reports that American child actress Morgan Lily (2012) has joined the rapidly-growing cast of Matthew Vaughn's X-Men: First Class as young Mystique (Jennifer Lawrence plays the older version in the film).

Other cast members of the June 3, 2011 release include James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Rose Byrne, Alice Eve, Kevin Bacon, Nicholas Hoult, Caleb Landry Jones, Lucas Till, Edi Gathegi, Jason Flemyng and Oliver Platt.

January Jones is now confirmed to have stepped into the X-Men: First Class role of Emma Frost, reports Variety.

Contenders for the part have recently been rumored to include Rosamund Pike and Alice Eve, but Jones appears to have emerged as the top choice for the role.

Frost was introduced in "Uncanny X-Men" #129 in 1980, created by Chris Claremont and John Byrne as The White Queen, a prominent member of the Hellfire Club, a group of wealthy mutants who used their power and powers to confound the X-Men, playing a key role in "The Dark Phoenix Saga." Later, Frost formed her own school for mutants, and her own team called the Hellions, before finally being brought into the X-Men fold by Charles Xavier (and writer Grant Morrison) and becoming a key member of the group for the past few years. A younger version of the character appeared briefly in X-Men Origins: Wolverine, played by Tahyna Tozzi.

Zoe Kravitz has also been cast as Angel Salvadore (not the same as Angel from X-Men: The Last Stand) while Bill Bilner will play Magneto as a young boy.

They join James McAvoy, Rose Byrne, Michael Fassbender, Nicholas Hoult, Jennifer Lawrence, Caleb Landry Jones, Lucas Till, Edi Gathegi, Kevin Bacon, Jason Flemyng and Oliver Platt in the Marvel Comics adaptation, set to hit theaters on June 3, 2011.

This seems like a really dumb idea unless they're trying to eventually mix some of the characters with the other series.

Several details from next summer's X-Men: First Class have been revealed thanks to an informal phone interview AICN conducted with the film's producer (and director of the first two X-Men films) Bryan Singer.

First Class is said to take place in the 1960's and will heavily play with the style of the day. Audiences will see John F. Kennedy as President and the parallel storyline of Martin Luther King and Malcolm X will play in the background. Overall, the look is said to emulate the original X-Men costumes far more than previous films have, though the films' chronology pre-dates the First Class story in the comics, meaning that many of the expected characters (Cyclops and Marvel Girl are listed by name) will not appear.

The villain of the film is, as rumored, Sebastian Shaw (played by Kevin Bacon). January Jone's Emma Frost will appear as the Hellfire Club's White Queen as well.

The central focus of the film is the friendship between Charles Xavier (James McAvoy) and Eric Lensherr (Michael Fassbender) and how it falls apart. Xavier will not be depicted as bald or in a wheelchair for the majority of the film, though we will learn what cripples him.

AICN's article makes frequent James Bond comparisons, nothing that that film will heavily play up the 60's style, but with retro future technology with a setting that spans the globe. Russia (AKA USSR), specifically, is mentioned.

X-Men: First Class is slated to hit theaters on June 3, 2011.
