I don't have a problem with that. LT is slightly overrated thanks to the New York media, a phenomenon we're seeing again with Darrelle Revis.

That list in general is just silly, though.

It's possible to be great and overrated at the same time. Again, Revis.

Derek Jeter is the greatest example of this in the history of Sports IMO. New York will do that.

There are also such things as borderline players. Example: Terry Bradshaw. Won four Super Bowls, but there were plenty of better QBs.

I realize I'm in the extreme minority on this, but it's not like I'm claiming LT was a bad player.

I've always thought that the best players are always overrated, and the worse players are underrated. Thats just me though.

I am the LAST guy that would base any opinion on what a reporter says.

I am actually insulted by that.

IMO..they have had a unlucky camp so far.

You have the bevy of injuries to guys we are counting on for depth, the FS position is unsettled still, Grove is knocking on the door of being a 30 million dollar bust, the TE's are unsettled as well, A 2nd round pick is about to bust out (pat white), etc...

this has not been a smooth camp.

Bradshaw was worthy of being in the HOF and of course there were plenty better.

I know you said slightly overrated but to me its not even close to that. He changed the way teams used Lb'ers of his size but not one has done it better than him since...

Bradshaw, like Joe Namath, got in for what he did in the Super Bowl, not what he did over the rest of his career. Namath was the definition of mediocre, but he made a famous guarantee and someone caught him on tape pointing his finger upwards, and that's all it took.

Deacon Jones also changed the game quite a bit. But he didn't play in New York, unfortunately for his popular reputation.

Different eras! Back in the 70's there were not a lot of passing Qb's and the Db's could rape the Wr's so Bradshaws stats are on par, and worthy of being considered for the HOF. What he did in the SB was elevate his play which put him over the top as a HOF'er but he still led Pitt to 8 AFC Central titles which aint too shabby.

Namath to me was nothing great but as much as I hate to admit, he was not mediocre. He took a lot of chances which led to a bunch of Int's but he passed for a lot of yards and in that era, it was pretty good.

I'm going to assume you mean since we don't hear alot about Deacon Jones nowadays right? I mean he was drafted and played 3/4 of his career before the NFL/AFL merger. He was very very very feared as a player. Much like Taylor. New York had nothing to do with Taylor being the Lb'er he was imo, and I would love nothing more than to agree with you since I hate absolutely everything about New York but I can't...

Joe Namath was the perfect example of a guy playing in New York and getting extra credit for it.

By any measure, his numbers were terrible.

Statistically speaking, he might be the worst player in the HOF.

the guy has a career 65.5 QB rating. lol.

don't take my word for it..check it out:

Not sure if you ever watched him but he had some pretty good games. I'll never call him mediocre but he surely was not great. Which is what I said. As for playing in NY. The place was perfect for him. An ahole with an ego but playing in NY did not give Taylor an overrating. He earned it imo

Different era, eh? Let's compare Bradshaw to some QBs who also played before the rule changes of 1978, who are also in the Hall of Fame, by listing career QB ratings:

    Bart Starr: 80.5.
    Fran Tarkenton: 80.4.
    Roger Staubach: 83.4.
    Dan Fouts: 80.2.
    Johnny Unitas: 78.2.

    Terry Bradshaw: 70.9.

Something was different about Bradshaw alright.

Taylor is one of the greatest defenders of all time. This is not an insult. But to hear the NY media tell it, Lawrence Taylor shot lightning bolts from his ***, showed up in the hotel rooms of opposing QBs the night before a game just to prove he could destroy them any time he wanted, and could impregnate women with just a glance.

One of the greatest football players ever? Sure. The greatest defender? No. Chuck Norris? Hell no.

Bradshaw had one hellava arm, and was the first pick in his draft class. Like I said, there were surely better Qb's but he was right there with the best. He had a knack for making plays in big time games (not just the SB) and he did it all with a team that loved to run the ball like mad and play defense. Qb ratings me absolutely nothing to me. The system is greatly flawed. I go by what I see...

Jay Fiedler was awesome versus the Raiders that one year.

a few good games and a terrible statistical career does not equate "deity status" and trust me..this guy is thought of as some god and he is just a poor man's Danny White.

I hated Joe Namath but Jay Feidler he aint. Feidler wished he could even sniff 4000 yds in a 17 game season much less 14.

He is a God because of his prediction and making it come true.

Other than diving into the end zone for the win as time ran out..... Jay Feidler sucked all day.

The Raiders were man for man a better team and had we played them on the road they probably would have throttled us.... but it was an early home game and scorchig hot.....the Raiders could barely breathe. Ppl were passing out in the stands..... Miami home field advantage in it's purest form.

The MVP of that game was the defense.... Oakland got their TD courtesy of a Fiedler pick 6.

It was his "Rudy" moment.... I guess I can be generous and just give him that one I suppose.

Ok, no I can't...... that game was no different than his career total winning percentage. It was generally a case of winning despite him more than anything else.

Told ya JS, dolfans are neurotic about Qb's and Wr's, bring up Jay F or Chambers and things get outta hand quickly.

Jay Feidler should stand as an object lesson in "why" the 2000 Ravens squad is a terrible template to try and follow.

It merely wastes talented Defenders prime yrs.

    Namath had talent..

How many times have you heard someone say "Marino had an even quicker release than Namath"?

But Namath on the sidelines in a fur coat is why he is who he is.... when we were kids the guy was a rock star, remember?

I'm not sure what you think that proves.

Not sure where this comes from. QB rating is pretty reliable stat. Which players have you seen it over- or underrate to lead you to the conclusion that it's a worthless indicator?

At least we've moved on from arguing over Lawrence Taylor.

He is a Raiders fan IRRC.(which makes his opnion that much more irrelevant)

This, Fiedler's suckitude was hidden by a badass Defense and a decent(with Lamar Smith) and then amazing(with Ricky Williams) running game.

It does not HAVE to prove anything. Mearly debating thats all. He was highly regarded coming out of college, and the SB's he played in are not his only claim to fame. He was known to step it up in big games.

Qb ratings are flawed because they only take completion percentage, passing yardage, touchdowns and interceptions into account. The ratings for QB are somewhat reliable but they don't take into account if there was a dropped ball by a perfectly thrown pass. They do not count sacks, and there are some times in the equation, where a Qb could actually throw a pass that ends up losing yards, yet raises his rating.

It also does not take new rules into account. Rules which have changed quite drastically over the years. Yet they apply the same system to those Qb's who played way before the illigal chuck rule, or before the league lightened up on holding calls, and the dreaded, in the grasp rule.

I would say that one example would be John Elway, who ended his career with a rating of 79.9, even though he had the most career wins by a quarterback and a record 41 fourth-quarter game-saving drives.

We were not really argueing over Taylor though. I clearly saw that you stated slightly overrated, which is no slight against Taylor on your part. I just happened to disagree somewhat....
