It's not about evening out. When you have arguably one of the best bullpens in all of baseball, chances are you're going to win a lot of games like that. Sent from my HERO200 using Tapatalk
Yeah, I wouldn't chalk up any team keeping the game close for 7-9 innings enough so they can come back as being luck. I would like if the braves won the games earlier but oh well, what can you do.
They are what they are. They don't have a great slugging lineup, and have probably hit the fewest Home Run's of any first place team save for San Diego. They play a lot of close games, and have a great bench with an unreal bullpen. So, 21 wins in the final at-bat is no fluke IMO. In the post season, it's the teams that can win close games that are usually the most successful.
Bobby is ****ing killing us. Having Prado bunt with runners on first and second and no outs? Not to mention the pitcher had just walked the first two guys in the inning. He's probably the only manager in MLB that would do that. Not to mention we were down by 2 runs, and not one. ****ing horrible.
He's a great manager, but sometimes he makes some bone-headed decisions. He said after the game "If he hit into a double-play, you'd all be asking me why we didn't bunt.", which is stupid, because nobody with half a brain would question why you didn't bunt your #3 hitter who's hitting .320 against a guy who just walked the first two batters of the inning. Another reason it was a horrible decision, is because you're down by 2 runs. Let's say Prado gets the bunt down, which he didn't. Then you have Diaz up with runners on 2nd and 3rd with 1 out and a Diaz Sac Fly score a run. You're still down by 1 run, and then Nats will still bring in a lefty to face McCann, which they did and got him out. Basically, Bobby was playing for 2 runs, which weren't guaranteed given the guys in the order about to come up and the Nats bringing in a lefty.
Marmol loaded the bases up for the Braves on 3 straight walks in the 9th, and the Braves just wouldn't take another last minute walk-off win. Like I said a few weeks ago....if you play a lot of close games the last at bat walkoffs are going to start going against you. It's just like flipping a coin. Sooner or later you are also going to start losing a lot of close games. I am not sure D. Lee is the best fit for the Braves in the #4 spot. I'd have McCann batting cleanup.
dude what game did you watch? i saw Ankiel hit a bases loaded triple and Wags toss a scoreless bottom of the ninth for the W.
Wow, well I will never trust Yahoo Sports again. I was following the game online and they said Ankiel ether struck out or lined out and they posted the score as 3-2 Cubs win. There were about five guys who posted this as Ankiel "struck out to end the game: http://forums.philly.com/n/mb/message.asp?webtag=kr-phillies&msg=116824.1&maxT=19 From: AndyS 3:26 pm To: man13 (10 of 20) 116824.10 in reply to 116824.9 I was following the game on MLB.com on my phone & it said that Ankiel struck out. ??? The Braves won 5-3???
I thought Ankiel would fail honestly but instead he hit a game winning triple. This team isn't just getting lucky. This is baseball, I'd say a lot of games are fairly close. That's why having a good bullpen is key. You're just hoping really hard that it's luck and they'll start losing a lot of these. I don't see them laying down late in the season the way the Mets did. I also prefer Mac in the cleanup spot by the way. I didn't watch the game but if a lefty started for the Cubs that might be why Bobby moved Mac to a different spot. He likes to even put Diaz in cleanup occassionally when a lefty is starting.
I think they're a little lucky. One run games don't remain static from year to year. But good teams make their own luck.
Almost all of baseball is a little luck. As far as things evening out, the Braves lost nine in a row in April and had a little slump after the break. It's not like things have always went their way all season.
I guess the Braves players agreed that they were playing too many close games. Infante and Heyward between the two of them had four home runs and eight RBIs today.
The rookie left hander had like 12 Ks. He sure isn't afraid to use his fastball, which is only in the low 90s. But he wasn't afraid to get it inside to right handers.
He did have 12 Ks. He had about everything working for him outside of that one mistake pitch that was hit almost out of the park. I'm glad he got his first MLB win out of the way.
I watched the Phillies-Astros game and Braves-Rockies game tonight and both the Phillies and Braves got screwed over by the umps. In the Phillies game Bourn was tagged on the rear end and he also ran out of the baselines but the ump messed up. Then the Astros scored the go ahead run right after this. In the Rockies' game Carlos Gonzales got tagged out stealing 2nd in the 8th inning but the ump didn't see the tag. Cargo scored the go ahead run right after this. It's a shame umps are blowing calls like this in big games.
On the verge of blowing an early 9-1 lead today. Pathetic is really the only thing you can say about not holding an eight run lead. We all knew the offense could struggle at times but pitching meltdowns really have me concerned. I can't see the Phillies losing yet again to the Astros. Maybe losing a game from their lead will wake them up. Oh and Kyle Farnsworth is on the mound giving up run after run. Boy he blows, thanks Frank Wren.
geez, went to cut the grass it was 10-1. at that point ironically, the Braves announcers were writing the game off, and saying how pitchers "don't like to pitch in laughers like this game, cause they lose focus." unfreakingreal...
Bravos with another walk off win, McCann in the bottom of the 9th with a reviewed walk off HR...take that phillies!
You can never turn away when they're at home. They obviously have that confidence that they can overcome any deficit at the Ted. I just wish I could have seen this one. Days like this are when I miss Georgia a little bit. Let's hope the Phillies lose now.
You should be used to it by now dude. I troll a Phillies a board and they expect it to happen just about every game. A few them even called it yesterday.
I think the WC is your best bet. I honestly don't see the Braves going anywhere. Their schedule is favorable, and the Phillies offense is just so damn inconsistent. (Almost no-hit by Hiroki Kuroda?!)
I guess things are going well when no one posts in here. 5 in a row, going for the sweep tonight with our ace on the bump. Ho hum.
