One thing I noticed during pregame warmups is that while all of the other RB's were doing drills like taking hand offs and running little out routes, Brown would do that once or twice, then would go off with one of the coaches and throw passes. Lots of passes. While in the middle of the field, with players walking through their pass route, maybe 20 yards apart, the coach would throw him the ball, Brown would catch it and throw it pretty hard back to him. Not like catch, but more like it was throwing practice. Not while standing still, but while both walked around. Probably 30-40 passes caught and thrown prior to the game start. No other RB's did this. The QB's didn't do this either. Not sure if it is a smoke screen or last minute warmup.
getting better, working on mechanics, fundamental's, and muscle memory... He is the star of the formation in the NFL...
Doubtful it is a smokescreen as everyone knows Brown does throw out of the WC. It's likely him getting some throws in in case the play gets called, that way his first pass in a game is not his first pass of the night period. I don't think it is anything really, when you consider who it is and what they do in the offense.
They looked great. Both the coach and he were walking and players running in between them (not by design, but because of all of the activity.) Browns passes were about 15-20 yards and were thrown hard (not lobs) and always hit the guy in the hands. Also the tempo was very fast. Purposefully it seemed. After watching this warmup I was thinking we'd see some wildcat passes last night.
At the training camp session i attended, alot of times Ricky and Ronnie would be over to the side tossing the ball back and forth while alot of the other dudes were participating and drills and what not. Maybe its just to pass time? haha IDK.
The QBs warm up for the game by throwing a few passes. In effect thats what Ronnie is doing as he is the QB in the wildcat.
Bear in mind I watched the stream.......in Bermuda. I think Sean Smith will have issues with this defense as it calls for a good deal of man coverage, which i think he struggles with. He doesn't have that lateral explosion and it seems thats what gives his receiver that space right after their break. If the QB gets the ball on there on time he has issues. Vontae is the better man to man player, but he still battles his consistency, but he is a physical specimen. He always gives up a deep pass somewhere in the game it seems. We know what Bell is at this stage, but Clemons showed a bit more last night than he did the first game. I think Culver is the better instinctual player, but Clemons has the better athletic ability, although he is also a bit straight line-ish. Clemons would also need to practice better tackling form as he is high a lot, especially in the open field. That's one issue that concerns me as he will get beaten for a big gain like that.
Sorry but I disagree. Both Ronnie AND Ricky make the Wildcat effective. I don't know how effective the Wildcat would be with Cobbs taking the snap or going in motion.
I was loving your point up untill there. I think cobbs could run that role pretty effectively actually. Probably not quite to rickys capabilities but i think it could be close.
It won't be effective if Cobbs takes the snap..jmo..I see Ronnie as a unique talent that has formation specific skills...without Ronnie none of it works on this team.
