A lot of the reviewers have said that the "you cant use that yet because I say so" plot point is beyond ******ed.

I'm sorry, but I can't care about this.

Weapons restrictions are no different from having to find the weapons yourself. It just happens to make more sense in the context of continuity. What's more logical, that Samus goes around a space station finding weapons in every nook and cranny, or that she already has the weapons from her previous adventures? Remember, Other M occurs after the original Metroid/Zero Mission, after all four Prime games, after Metroid II, and after Super Metroid.

This is the same problem the Mega Man series has. Every new game, Mega Man mysteriously lacks the abilities from his previous games. What does he do, dump them in a river or something? The second the Metroid series acknowledged a continuous timeline, this was bound to happen. In fact, it already did: see Metroid Fusion. And it's not as if the exploration element has been banished from the series, it's just a way to manage a difficulty curve.

Reviewers will bash games for the dumbest reasons.

After just over five hours of this I think it's safe to say that Super Metroid is still the king of all Metroid.

Other M is a very good game. But I don't think it's the next revolutionary step in Metroid's (or at least I hope not). There's a few gameplay flaws that's keeping me from loving it. I'm sure I'll be stoned for the first, but really... the Wii-mote. C'mon man. This game is MADE for a 360 or PS3 controller. Hell, I'll take a Classic Controller at this point. The whole reason you cant use the classic controller is because you need to go into first person mode to do certain things. This leads me to the worst design idea of this game. To go first person, you just point the Wii-mote at the screen. This allows you to look around and find stuff. You also have to go to this mode to fire missiles. This is the biggest problem of them all. You need Missiles to do a lot of crap. Doors. Enemies. Bosses. BOSSES. Because the game controls like a "real" controller, you can't move (or do much anything) when aiming at the screen. So you constantly have to make sure Samus is facing said boss/enemy damn near perfect before aiming the wii-mote. It rotates so painfully slow, you have no shot at getting a shot off on tough enemies/bosses if you don't get it perfect. This effect would have been a BILLION times better with a PS3 or 360 controller and simple holding Left Trigger to go first person. This frees up an analog stick to strafe or look around at a reasonable rate, or anything to keep you alive in a VERY fast paced twitch based action game.

The other gripe is the story. I know why they never give link a voice and why Metroid has been very successful with no story. Not only is this story bad. But the voice acting is so terrible it's laughable sometimes. They really try to get you into the character of Samus Aran and all they really accomplish is a bad Anime plot. I think I would have preferred to just be plopped in there with no direction.

That being said. It's been fun albeit terribly annoying at some points. So far nowhere near enough back tracking or exploring to really feel like Metroid. It's cool though. Samus has gone all God of War with finishing moves.

I'm sure the Wii die hards will have no problem with the control scheme. I personally hate it. Same with the story. As a whole I don't think I (or anyone) really gives a crap about her past... I know what you're thinking, "I kinda do want to know". As did I till it started.

I agree about the control scheme. It's far from perfect. The 2D control is spot on, but the first person control could've been done better. I don't like that you can't move while in first-person. And I don't like that you have to stop the action to line up a missile shot. But in the end, despite being far from perfect, it still kinda works.

It would've been much better to control movement with the nunchuck, and aim for missile lock-ons with the Wiimote, to keep the action flowing.

The story is a love it or hate it type thing. Being an old-school Metroid guy, I don't like it. Samus always has been an enigma, and to take that away from her by concocting this backstory - while not quite sacrilege - is not cool to me.

All that aside, I still like the game. For the most part, it maintains the feeling of Metroid (though not as dark as I would have liked - it's more like the feeling in Prime 3) and is overall just fun to play.

I'd give this game 8 of 10. It's not perfect, it's not even great, but it's a solid fun game.

I don't think anything will unseat Super Metroid, though Zero Mission was an improvement over Super Metroid in terms of controls. Other M to me is turning out to be the second best game in the series. The progression is well paced, the environments are excellent, and it's clear that there'll be plenty of backtracking.

Anyone figure out how to get that missile pack in the long hallway outside of Adam's control room? It's underneath the floor grates. I can't find a way in, though it might have something to do with the locked doors beyond the control room.

I'm not a Wii die hard and have no problem with the controls. I have some problems where the sensor bar doesn't always pick up when I want to go into first person mode, but that's not really the game's fault.

Other M is as good as I thought it would be. Money well spent. Eat it, G4.
