I honestly believe in my heart that Sanchez has about a 5% chance at being elite. Don't be suprised if the Jets cut him in a couple years and you see him standing outside of a home depot.
I wouldn't have a problem with Henne's rating on that scale had Sanchez not been before him. I realize Henne is a work in progress, but so in Sanchez - with even worse stats in arguably better conditions. The logic isn't there; the Jets have a better supporting cast (allegedly, as the media states), yet Sanchez produces poorer numbers. How does that equate to having more upside, exactly?
He's got the "it" factor. When that develops he'll be a "legit" "warrior" with "heart" and a "killer instict" who "thrives under pressure" with "eyes on the back of his head".
I hope Henne develops into a star QB, but I agree that he's not there yet. He may get there this season, though. Time will tell.
Sanchez started as a rookie, Henne did not. Sanchez is ranked #23. Henne is ranked #25. He gave Sanchez a 50% chance of being elite and Henne 45% chance of being elite. It's not like he ranked Sanchez much higher than Henne. You're putting Henne on a pedestal compared to Sanchez, IMO.
ESPN is horrible at prediction. If I had a $1 for every incorrect prediction i'll be rich. YouTube- John Clayton, Mark Schlereth and Jamie Dukes fail.
Lol @ the idea someone can accurately guesstimate one QB at 50% chance of being elite but another at 45%. Amazingly accurate methods must be used to be able to distinguish a 5% difference in probablitiy of becoming elite!!! lol. Truly just grist for disussion. Not much solid basis for the rankings.
Flacco should not be categorized as "elite" in any way. Out of 5 playoff games he's completed more than 50% of his passes only once, last year in a loss vs Colts when he also threw two INTs. He's in a similar situation as Sanchez... not asked to do much and let the defense & running game take care of business. Would never be able to carry a team on his shoulders like a Peyton Manning or Donovan McNabb. A guy like Henne should be ranked higher than guys like Alex Smith, Garrard, Hasselbeck, and Campbell. He has more upside than those mediocre / washed-up QBs... they have played for a number of years, we pretty much know what their ceiling is. Henne has 13 starts under him, and now with a game-changing receiver he will have opportunity to reach more potential. Matt Moore at #31 is interesting, I would have put him higher. The 2nd worst starting QB in the NFL does not have a winning record as starter (6-2) and an 84.5 rating. Kevin Kolb at #24 is so far proven less than Moore... and less than Henne, thank you.
I have crunched the numbers using CLayton's formula and I am 4.9% likely to become an elite Quarterback this season. Jessica Simpson outranks me at 14.5%, due to her time with Tony Romo.
Tim Graham wrote another article talking about Sanchez being ranked higher than Henne??!!?? Shocker. Yawn.
Graham was more posting info on an article Henne wrote. Honestly, I see them as being in a fairly even race at this point, neither has enough body of work to justify much. This season will go a long way to determining which is the better.
Am I the only one who thinks that Matt Schaub is better then 1/2 the guys in the "elite" category? The whole list is a joke in my opinion and it has nothing to do with where Henne is to be honest.
i just said sanchez should not be above henne, which i think is true. it has nothing to do with "pedestals" or what year they started. henne has done more with less in fewer starts.
If Sanchez were a baseball player, he'd be "gritty" like David Eckstein, and the SABR nerds would ****ing hate him.
Exactly. Two years ago, every ESPN analyst (with the emphasis on ANAL) said Miami was no better than a 3 or 4 win team, even with Chad Pennington. on them !
ESPN hates any Miami team, just look at any "highlights" film from any team. The package ALWAYS includes that teams players beating out a Miami DB or a Marlin striking out against another teams pitcher, or hitting a HR off a Marlin pitcher, or a Heat player being beaten, a Hurricane getting beat on a pass or a Hurricane fumble or INT, or a Panther goalie letting in a goal..... I dare you to start watching and counting the times a Miami/So Fla team is used in those highlight packages....it sounds paranoid, but its real, just watch. BTW those packages rarely if ever have any anti-New York or Dallas Cowboy video in them.
who gives a sh*t what a wanna be expert says? Rankings based on BS opinions mean squat. The mere fact that A Smith is ahead of Henne when A SMith has shown more reason to rank him a bust proves it is a subjective ranking. Which mean it isnt worth a much as what I wipe my arse with
I think Clayton is usually pretty sharp about the NFL honestly but this one is a head scratcher. Henne never had a legit #1 receiver and Ronnie Brown got hurt, hard to say, "defenses figured him out", good defenses will "figure out" teams with little real talent on offense pretty quick. Kind of hard to basically throw the guy under the bus when he really didn't have any talent around him.
I don't see any rhyme or reason to his list. I mean he has a bunch of QBs who he gives zero to slightly above zero chance of being elite rated better than QBs he gives very good chance of being elite.
Best job ever. Even better than being a weatherman/person. Just write stuff, and be held accountable for nothing. You don't have to be right or even support your statements with facts, just write and we'll pay you for it.
