If there was a better opportunity to get that 5th rd pick plus back for Thigpen I don't see it around. I think they would cough up a 3rd + right now or a fourth and a good player for ST's.

I'm ok going into the season w/ Henne and Pennington, If they gave up say a third and a six or a four and a quality backup secondary/ST ala Sapp...

    would ya?

I'd do it for a 4th or better. Speaking of QB's. Rosenfels was traded to the NYG.

    Why not?

    What would it take?

To me getting a 3rd + or a 4th and a good player seems like a pretty good Return on Investment for a player we only brought in cuz Pennington was injured, he's superfulous at this point.

Whats a third string QB worth?

The Steelers really like Dennis Dixon. Worst case they still have Charlie Batch. But Im pretty sure it will be Dixon at this point.

Penny is here on a one yr deal, so does it make sense to peddle a Qb who has proven he can start in the NFL and knows the offense and is well under 30 for a fourth round pick?

Thiggy is more valuable to us than he is to the open market.

Nah, honestly it would not surprise me if he did move out for a 4th rd pick or something, I'm merely saying that is to cheap.

Plain fact is, we have no idea what they plan on doing with Pennington, if they wish to keep him then the #3 Qb role should be a developmental player, if they plan on letting him go, then keep Thiggy as insurance.

How about Thiggy for Bob Sanders?

That is the sort of price I'd ask, a high pick or a Starter and the market would not support that price.

not sure he's proven anything. he can move the ball but he's a turnover machine. i view him and AJ Feeley as having similar value though thigpen still has upside so maybe a bit higher for thigpen

    Feeley went for a #2 pick..to us...

As for the two of them, Eh..not seeing it, Feeley thought his arm could get him out of problems, Thiggy is a smarter Qb who is far more mobile.

And he is also a mentally tougher Qb than Feeley imo.

Thiggy took the 3-13 season in KC and is no worse for wear mentally..Feeley never really has.

I would not do that simply for two reasons..

Next Years hes your #2 backup..

Secondly I honestly fell hes the best QB RIGHT NOW on the team between white, and Henne..

I know I know I just feel RIGHT now hes better than Henne at least in preseason and hes proven he can win on a **** KC team where he rocked.

The Steelers love Dixon according to Mike Florio.

He speculated/stated that Pittsburgh would intentionally not start Dixon till Ben got back because they feared showing how good he is to the league . He is eligible for rfa ( iirc ) .

Florio said they would start Leftwich till the suspension was over and if they traded Ben , Dixon would be their QB for next year.

    Keep all the QB's.

Leave Thiggy where he is, and drop Pat White to the practice squad until Pennington retires. Then we'll have Henne, Thiggy and White when we need them.

you think thigpen is smarter? i really havent seen a smart QB in thiggy. the hope for thigpen IMO is he morphs into tony romo or brett favre. feeley was a west coast QB so there's a skillset difference but what i was referring too was the penchant for both to be able to move the team but inexplicably throw a WTF interception. thigpen might be mentally tougher. its hard to say. feeley never seemed to lose confidence in himself like beck or harrington. thigpen is definitely more mobile however the way feely played for the iggles was far better than anything thigpen's ever done in kc or miami

I don't think anyone would give us a 4th for Thigpen, its not like his value has increased since we traded for him, he hasn't shown anything special. I think some of the over valuing of him here is a bit ridiculous. He is 3rd string here, if Henne goes down Pennington is going to start. We don't have any real leverage with Thigpen, teams know he is our 3rd string guy.

In 08 the Chiefs overall record was......2-14 (!!)
Thigpen started 14 games and was responsible for one win for the season.
He completed 54.8% of his passes.
What makes you make the statement "he's proven he can win..."?
I think he has a lot of potential to be a winner. But really what has he proven so far?

Does anyone really think we'd get as much as a 4th, let alone a 3rd for Thiggy ?? I like the kid and think he has potential, but no way anyone gives us that much in return. His resume just doesn't support it....

Secondly, what do we do if Henne goes down then ?? We'd have "break glass in case of emergency" Penny and White ?? Whoa...that's a scary thought. Then we'd be making another trade in the middle of the season like we did to acquire Thiggy, provided it was before the early cutoff date....I just don't see it. White isn't the answer or at least Sparano's actions have indicated that. Penny is fragile at best. What are the chances we could get thru half a season with Penny ?? Not very good...

If a deal like this is made, Sparano's tenure here would be balanced on the throwing arm of an 11 yr veteran QB who's only completed seasons twice in his career and a failed project college option QB....no thanks....If I'm Sparano and Irish makes that deal, I'd just quit now...

Feeley never again challenged for a Starting Qb role once he left Miami, he did start games, but no one just made Feeley their starting Qb and Feeley has played on better teams than Thigpen.

As for Thiggy's game, good arm, nice size moves well not afraid to take a risk which is really one of his strengths, he does not allow a interception to effect his "make a play" mentality and that is hard to find in a young Qb.

Imho the very first thing a Starting Qb has to develop is the desire to make something happen instead of becoming "Commander Checkdown". Now that has to be married to the ability to make something good and explosive happen.

For me, the desire of NFL head coaches to shackle that is one of the mistakes the NFL makes in developing Qb's..in today's NFL everything a Qb does is scripted...everything.

Recall Pennington just throwing that jump ball up to Brandon Marshall?

Can you honestly see Henne just throwing a ball up into coverage and hoping Marshall comes down with it?

    I can't.

That's why Favre and Childress butted heads last season.

White played in to many games last season and does not qualify for the practice squad.

    Practice Squad Eligibility
    # According to league policy, only certain types of players are allowed to sign to the practice squad. Players cannot have played more than nine regular season games or been on the active roster for an entire year, nor can players be allowed to spend more than two seasons on the same team's squad unless that team's active roster never dips below 53 players
