Parcells and Ireland got RIPPED for taking Pat White in the 2nd and Pat Turner in the 3rd. Both were considered huge reaches by most draft experts.

I was one of the people who defended those picks, and now, after only ONE SEASON, both are cut. Mel, you were right. Pat Turner and Pat White suck and should never have been drafted at all, much less in rounds 2 and 3.

How do we all owe them apologies?

I certainly never liked the Pat White pick.

I don't owe anyone anything...I knew from the very start the Pat White experiment was a bust. That pick sucked form the moment it happened.
As far as Turner I was meh...Rooted for him to make it but never backed the pick.
I have a hard time believing anyone actually believed PW could be an NFL QB.

I was against the White pick but was ok with the Turner pick. The White pick really stings right now because it could have been used for more help in the secondary, an area that could cripple our season if they don't start stepping up.

throwing away a 2nd & 3rd pick for zero productivity just hurts. It has set the team back a bit.

That said, I give them credit for realizing a mistake when they see it and letting it go.

Turner may yet have a chance in the league - there are plenty of WR's who take some time to develop.

Hey, even the aforementioned Mike Williams is a potential starter now with Seattle.

But, I'm not high on Turner by any means. Just sayin'

at best, the draft is one big calculated risk.
no one knows until they come under fire what a college prospect will do in the heat of NFL performance.
I'm sure they better than most in the draft.

I was excited for the white pick, but it wasn't because I envisioned him being a QB, or our QB..just how he would work within the parameters of the wildcat offense playing a multitude of roles.....that never happened, and it was never attempted...

Like dj, I was hoping Pat White would add a new dimension to the Wildcat, but that didn't happen. I don't think it wasn't attempted, I think he just didn't have the physical talent for it. But I thought it was a good pick at the time and I was wrong.

    Meh.

We struck out on White but scored on Henne, Thiggy, & Penny.
We struck out on Turner, but scored on Bess, Hartline, Moore, Wallace and of course, Marshal.

I'll take that all day, everyday.

Maybe but you do give yourself more of a chance when you do go for the "safer" options than the "reach" players. White was a serious reach IMO.

    Draft 1:
    1. OT Jake Long (starter; one of the best in the game at his respective position)
    2. DE Phillip Merling (not officially gone but red fonted for being a bum)
    2. QB Chad Henne (starter; we'll see....)
    3. DE Kendall Langford (starter; solid with a ton of potential left)
    4. G Shawn Murphy (gone)
    6. RB Jalen Parmele (gone)
    6. G Donald Thomas (gone)
    6. RB Lex Hilliard (backup and decent special teamer)
    7. DE Lionel Dotson (gone)

    Draft 2:
    1. CB Vontae Davis (starter with Pro Bowl potential, IMO)
    2. QB Pat White (gone)
    2. CB Sean Smith (starter; had a very promising rookie year, but has let down so far in camp & preseason.... jury is still out)
    3. WR Patrick Turner (gone)
    4. WR Brian Hartline (starter, but probably the third best receiver on the roster)
    5. TE John Nalbone (hasn't shown much; backup due to lack of competition)
    5. S Chris Clemons (starter by virtue of simply having nobody else; can't say he "earned" it)
    6. OT Andrew Gardner (gone)
    7. LB J.D. Folsom (gone)

If looking at this makes you feel bad just add in Brandon Marshall, Tyler Thigpen, Tim Dobbins, and all the undraftees I guess....

Well, actually that's a lot of STARTERS (8) out of those draft picks, with 4 significant additional depth bodies from others picks....listen, no team hits on all draft picks equating to roster spots regardless of round....I dont think this is bad at all. I actually think it measures up quite well across any other NFL squad.

12 bodies out of 53 man rosters from those past two draft picks used....3/4 of those 12 as Starters. Add in the starters from this years past draft (Odrick, Misi, Jerry?) and the other bodies (Carroll, Jones, Edds???) from it on the 53 and its actually very impressive.

Last 3 drafts under this 3some.....11 starters is not shabby at all....considering the total overall speed and talent has improved across the 53 since the 1-15 campaign.

The top of the first draft has a chance to be really special. Last year's draft though, ugh.... 2 of the first 4 picks (top 3 rounds) are gone a year later. That is a huge failure. Hopefully the third time's a charm.

I never understood the White pick in the first place. I figured if they wanted White. They could have drafted him in the 6th or 7th round. Turner was certainly a reach
in the third round and obviously he ended up being a draft bust. As far as apologizing
to Kiper. If he apologizes to all all us for all the mistakes he has made over the years.
I'll think about apologizing to him. On second thought. No I won't.

I was one of them. And quite frankly, the guy hasn't done anything to warrant a passing or failing grade yet. He's very much a wait and see kinda player, especially after this horrible preseason he's had.

The drafting overall has sucked... Ireland clearly isn't in Parcells league in terms of evaluating players.

Finding 11 Starters out of the last 3 drafts and those picks is far, far, far from the sucks neighborhood. Add in the other young depth via the use of picks and again, no where near the world of sucks.

Those 2nd and 3rd round picks were really valuable picks. Easily set this franchise behind. We badly needed LB and secondary help last year. They still hit on a lot of their picks, higher than average but we need a lot more talent to dominate our division and they definitely made some screw ups that we're going to be awhile recovering from.

I want one year where we have no obviously stupid picks. No Ted Ginn, John Beck, Pat White type of picks. If we didn't obviously make stupid early picks this team could be loaded with talent now.

For all the draft picks this FO has done very well on, i'm not upset with a 2nd and 3rd that didn't work out.

To those busts, they have found Hartline, Long, Bess, Carpenter, Langford, Henne, Vontae, Smith (needs to get better).

This year there is plenty of hope in Carroll, Misi, Odrick

Couple bad eggs is much better than all bad eggs like the Cam/Saban/Spielman era's were.

Kiper is a tool and i would never apologize to him for anything. Ever. He has a terrible read on talent, and many on here do his job 100 times better, for free, and are actually good at it. He gets paid to mail it in.

With regards to the yearly NFL draft, he's the loner chick at the sideline of a prom, always there, just someone no one cares about.
