Either his injury is not getting better (or expected to) or this was another cost cutting move. Based on the recent moves you have to suspect that its a cost cutting move.

Wow, damn. You'd think they'd at least ask him to restructure his contract before cutting him. Or maybe they did ask him and he refused?

    Probably cost vs returns.

But indeed he could be hurt yet again.

That's likely what happened. I can't see them just saying goodbye to a good backup/starter........makes no sense otherwise.

Has the regime change their OL philosophy from run to pass blockers? Donald Thomas was horrible and Smiley has a bad shoulder. Was Groves pass blocking as good as his run blocking?

You seriously have to wonder what they are planning when they dump Will Allen, and now Grove - two guys who at least could have provided solid backup most of the season.

Are they just cutting guys who get hurt a lot, and they don't see a light at the end of the tunnel?

Are they just cutting salary (I doubt that's a huge part - they want to win, and I can't see them dispensing a player they think they can use over cash when they gotta know they have to have a good season this year to keep their positions)

Do they think the guys who are replacing them are, or can be better soon? Maybe?

I know it seems odd that these guys who were starters not long ago are sent packing so coldly like this, but I have to believe Ireland, Inc. has a plan at least, right?

No wonder why Parcell left before the season, will Allen done, grove release, young defense and a hard schedule.

If he was more injured than before and we didn't even start the season yet, good money says he probably wouldn't contribute enough this season to warrant his salary. Someone, whether it's BP or Ross, seems to have decreed a new motto: young and healthy is more important than aged veteran-banged up-but can contribute more near term. I don't actually have a problem with this since we had no shot at the superbowl this season anyway.

OMG WTF? He must have been more seriously injured than we knew/thought. Now we know why Berger got so many snaps w/first team in PS.

Imho, the motto is "we want healthy football players and if the backups are not good enough to start we will not pay them starter money".

He was suppose to get a roster bonus when he played game #1

Why am I starting to think we are the Florida Marlins and we are making decisions on money

Yes him and Allen were expensive backups if not healthy but they would still be good insurance if someone goes down

    Not liking this move

Well when you consider they blew 31 million on 4 or 5 free agents as well as whatever they paid Pat White and Turner, it appears they just are not going to spend the money on anyone but starters this year.

I like Andrew Hartline and feel he will be this seasons Nate Garner.

For a reason, most teams really do trust in their player personnel evaluation abilities, to pickup a player now is to say "we blew it so airdrop someone in before the first game so they can make up for it".

Typically GM's give the coaches a couple of games to have their players fail, then they go looking for plug in players.
