I do not understand. Wasn't this part of the plan from the beginning?

I think he was looking for some feedback on his writing. I can't write any better than him and I think the Bleacher Report is the spell of death. I have to give him an A for Affort or however that works.

    I think so.

But it's also a fair question...because Parcells is definitely the type that will sense some bad things and jump ship.

The reality is this could just be a planned thing that is no big deal, or it could actually be something...and we just don't know.

So basically it is like you got married to a woman to get her a green card and in two years you two planned on getting a divorce.

It is two years later and you two are getting a divorce. We do not know if it is because what you planned to do or if it is because you have a rocky relationship.

The problem I have with the jumping ship theory is that it would still be his failure if Miami fails this year. Even with the report that it is entirely Ireland's ship to sail from now on, if Parcells is still a part of the team next year, everyone would be acting like he was still making the decisions. Hell even if he isn't on the team there will be people who still believes he makes the decisions.

Yeah, sorta. Except in this case Parcells signed on for five years and he's abandoning ship in year three so it's a little more conspicuous than that.

Bottom line to me is Parcells is exactly the type (to me) to jump ship if he senses things aren't going right. So it's plausible that he's dumping because he's not happy with something, whether that be the performance of people he put in place, the performance of the players, or even just not being happy with his own contribution to this team. It's also plausible that he's dumping because he planned on it all along, provided the people he put in place were successful.

And that too is quite plausible. There's rumor that Stephen Ross sent a directive to trim the fat, get rid of unneeded veteran contracts, get the player budget down, etc. If that's the case, that could have been enough to induce Parcells to say that this team is no longer his responsibility...and then it would make sense for him to stay on as a consultant just to keep looking out for Sparano and Ireland and make sure Ross doesn't hire Carl Peterson and Carl ousts them right away.

I remember his plan being that he would be more hands on at first and then as time went on he would go more into the background and be a consultant.

So when I heard the news that at the beginning of this season that he would go in the background and be more of a consultant, I just made the assumption that he said what he was going to do.

To me this is just people looking for something to write about. If Parcells comes out and says something, I can see this being a story.

I guess maybe I am just to into having facts. I almost find this akin to Parcells saying he is going to have steak for dinner tonight and reading a news story, "Parcells goes to steakhouse, does this mean the Dolphins are in trouble?"

I am so sick of this nonsense. We still have Ronnie brown and ricky williams. We still have Dansby and Marshall, two of the best players in the league at their positions. Our Oline, while unsettled, has consistently been good under sparano. Our QB has a great arm and showed moments of brilliance last season. Our Dline looks fantastic.

Quit the excuses, I see no reason this team can't win football games and Parcells changing his title for this organization means absolutely nothing.

we still have 53 men on this team who know damn well they need to perform every play in order to get their paychecks. Our team is still going to go out there and hit people. We're not about to roll over and die because of a poor preseason and a VERY old man decides he needs less involvement.

    Go PHINS!

I remember reading that on articles when he was hired in the first place. That his role with the team would go down as time went on and after a few seasons he would pretty much just be a consultant.

I maybe wrong, however that is what I remember reading.

According to NFL Network, this was A PART OF THE DEAL!!! I believe it was Carucci or Marriucci something else difficult who reported it. This was the deal. I'd rather him do it now than in the middle of the season when it really would look like he was ditching us.

I was surprised he lasted this long.

It also seems like people are forgetting that one of the conditions for Parcells to sign in the first place was that Huizenga sell the team to Mr. Ross.

This regime is so good at keeping us fans in the dark we've all turned into amateur private eyes.

i figured he'd bail on us after one or two years, so for us to have gotten 3 full offseasons and 3 drafts out of the man, im happy. he did well for us and I think he's layed down a very good foundation. which, as you've said, was the plan overall.

    I agree...to an extent.

If Henne works out then he laid a great foundation, but if he doesnt work out then I think he left too soon....if he's really left at all.

I dont think his work here is done until we find our true Franchise QB.

This season will tell us if Henne is the man.

only problem is, if Henne ISN'T the guy, It's going to take longer than Parcell's current contract to find a true franchise QB. Parcells left when it logically made the most sense for him to do so.

i'd rather not even think about any of that. Henne showed me enough last season to believe hes got what it takes.

    I believe in Chad Henne.

his departure or step down, whatever, does not bode well for Miami @ this point in the juncture. one more of the many things that taints the start of the 2010 season.

Kind of annoying how so many of the local media routinely assume Parcells is leaving before he's made any mention of it.
I liken it to a forest fire bearing down on your house, and the fire chief happens to stop by, while contemplating your street to base their firefighting operations out of.
While observing the raging flames from the vantage point of your backyard, numerous neighbors keep asking him when they'll be moving on, as they can't get their cars in their driveways, with all the firetrucks parked up and down the street.

Wow, such dark and gloom here. What I see is an old man whom we brought in to build up a regime and eventually turn the reigns over to. Miami was chosen because we were in football hell (he said himself that we were 3 years away from having any talent on our roster), he had complete control to choose his croonies, and the belief that he'd like to retire in Miami when it was all said and done.

The season hasn't started yet, and already people are ready to jump.

    Henne hasn't fowled up yet
    A 2nd year rookie is sitting...for now
    A 2nd round pick isn't starting....for now

Guys, this is football. All teams have rookies that start strong and fall off, get hurt, players come out of nowhere, etc. etc. etc. It's that type of game. As far as I can tell we're on track, and I'll refuse to believe until proven otherwise. I think the FO has done a hell of a job getting this team talented young players, and incredibly talented vets to teach them. Henne is learning from one of the best minds in the game, Our young WR's are learning from a top 5 WR, and our young LB corps is learning from Karlos fricking Dansby. We have a franchise CB who's in and our from being hurt, but you'll never convince me that he's not in the young guys ears as well.

Quit with the freak out, the league starts TOMORROW!

Probably. We're going 0-16 seeing as how we don't have Camarillo and Cleo Lemon anymore.
