Still cashing in on the two great performances by Willis & Haley Joel Osment it seems. Seriously, its his only good film IMO. Signs, Unbreakable, The Village.....mediocre at best.
He continues to have the same issues with his squads. I just don't think he's a good coach. His squads have mental breakdowns, stupid penalties in droves, poor fundamentals (see horrid tackling) etc. All of that comes down to coaching. Good recruiter, poor coach.
This is what I'm saying. They have plenty of talent, but how does a Defensive-minded coach like Shannon bring his team to play the Buckeyes and get so run over by Pryor?
Jacory has issues, no doubt, however, I think his pass catchers as well as his pass blockers haven't helped him. For all the bad rap he gets, he has not seen quality protection up front this year nor last year and this game, we've seen drops.
What else do we have? Highsmith? Whipple? Jacory Harris is our best chance to win football games. We won 9 games with him last year and we can win that much or more with him this year. I love Bridgewater though, so we'll see how fast he's ready to contribute.
Absolutely. The talent is certainly there. I don't care what anyone says. The Champs Sports Bowl was the defining moment for me. We were straight up out coached in that game, and it showed more than anything else.
In his defense, they've held them to five field goals, whatever that is suppose to mean. However, I think there's more to it than just Shannon. Personally, I think Shannon is a bad time management coach. He is not prepared in the closing of halves. His coaches have also not prepared these players. Demarcus Van Dyke has been here three years now I believe and he still doesn't have a clue how to play cornerback. Our players do not tackle well. They do not take proper angles. They need to get a guy who is proven and who has had success. Overhaul the coaching staff, sans Whipple. I'm OK with Whipple.
That game was scary to watch. I rewatched it a few weeks ago. The fact that they were shuffling the OL throughout the game was absolutely embarrassing. Harris was nearly killed that game. Our defense had issues; bad tackling and all that. It was just awful.
Of course right now there's no other option. I just hope Shannon dosen't continue to count on Jacory as THE QB moving forward. I've heard from more than one booster with inside connections that Shannon made some verbal deals with recruits from Northwestern promising Jacory would be the leader of this team to get them to actually sign. That's why he was so quickly annointed the "QB of the future" within the program. At this point, for the future, they need to at least consider and prepare for the real chance that he may not be that guy.
Exactly. Same thing with Sam Shields; a 4.2+ guy and they bounced him around, never found a real role for him and he left still not knowing how to play Corner...and Shannon is a Defensive position coach. How do you squander a guy's entire college career when he runs a 4.2+?
I don't expect Harris to stay at Miami long. Wouldn't surprise me if he left this year. I'm worried about Harris but at the same time, I'm confident in him. I know what he can do. I've seen him make great throws, I've seen him scramble well (rarely but he's done it), I've seen him fight hard to stay in the game and play the injury off. He's talented. I think he's got a good arm. It's not great but its good enough. He has a odd delivery, because it seems long but it's still quick enough. I think he's pretty accurate. His issue is decision making. He does not read the game well enough yet. He's young, he's still inexperienced, and in reality, he hasn't had much around him. I know we've got all these talented wide outs but you have to have a strong OL in front of him and he hasn't had that.
It's not about speed IMO. It's about how much you know and how you apply that knowledge to the game. It's also about being able to execute. Sam Shields came to Miami and did well his first year I thought. He caught the ball pretty well and made a few plays across the middle as a slot receiver. Then his confidence went out the window and he started dropping balls. Finally they decided that he was not good enough at wideout and they had to put him somewhere. Cornerback was his only other option really. He was an aggressive guy who had speed, good size but could not catch well. He started late at the cornerback position so it does not surprise me that he struggled and confused. However, there is no explanation for Demarcus Van Dykes struggles. Sam Shields was a better cornerback last year than Demarcus Van Dyke has been as a Miami Hurricane.
Not really about hearing, I just watched him. I think he has issues and I don't know if they are any different than what Harris's are right now. He has that odd delivery too. He has a big arm but he's not overly accurate. I know he's done work as a wide receiver in some football camps he's attended.
That's not new, though. I'm not a Canes fan, but I keep tabs on the team once in a while, and that's always been the knock against Shannon. Good recruiter, not a great game day coach. Sort of like Wannstedt. Except Shannon may not be the top-notch recruiter everyone thinks he is. This Canes squad reminds me of the current Chicago Bulls roster. Young, good, but not perennially great, and forever stuck in the shadow of past teams. Miami should still be the favorite to win the ACC, but national title hopes were overblown from the start. Hope for an ACC title this year, and maybe by Jacory Harris' senior season, the Canes can compete for a national title.
Pretty disappointing...I don't really wanna take credit away from OSU, but Miami killed themselves terribly. 2 of the picks weren't entirely Jacory's fault. Travis Benjamins 2 brain farts killed.
I don't see how. So far his strategy seems to be "let's recreate the Miami Northwestern championship team." Let's not forget that he missed out on Seantrel Henderson the first time around, and if not for Reggie Bush and Pete Carroll he wouldn't be a Hurricane right now. But I admit I'm not following the team as closely as most people in this thread, so just take this as an outsider's opinion.
If he puts together a pretty good year, which is not out of question IMO, I would not be surprised to see him leave. The quarterback class is up and down in 2010.
He missed out on Henderson but he convinced him to come to Miami afterwards. He recruited Brandon Harris, didn't he? Bailey? Ray Ray Armstrong? Telemaque? Harris? Cooper? Berry? Franklin? He's done pretty well IMO. Problem is coaching.
Ah, stupid me.... I thought you were talking transfer. I'd be pretty surprised if Jacory left early. I like Jacory and I still believe in him (to an extent), but I don't see NFL ability in him. He's frail, takes far too many chances, decision making is his biggest fault, and he's had some of his most underwhelming performances in the "bigger" games. I'm much better at judging WR/CB than any other position, especially the QB position, but I can't see him being projected high enough as a prospect to leave. If he wants a shot in the NFL he's going to need a hell of a senior campaign, IMO. Deep down he's a true competitor and he loves the program. I know he wants another crack at Ohio State (at home), and that would be the ultimate boost for him as a prospect if he can completely turn the tables and get revenge next year. This performance today.... is a killer for his career. He's really going to need to redeem himself, especially if coming out early is a possibility in his mind. Best bet is running the table and winning the ACC title game, thus setting up the highest stage of his career in a BCS showdown.
I'd hope so. Deal breaker if not. He's definitely coming in with the mindset that he will start at QB for this team from his sophomore season going forward. And just like Jacory it looks like he's bringing the rest of his high school team with him.
I don't know where his NFL future lies either, honestly. He's got some talent but he is going to need a lot of work. You could be right. We'll see.
One thing I like about him is that he's cocky as hell and he uses his feet to create plays. Problem is, I think he screws around on the field at times.
