Is the ball Henne throws really that tough to catch? As an NFL WR you need to be able to catch balls that aren't perfect. I see Henne make a lot of great throws and some not so great, I think he will improve. I just don't see why these WR's that have no problem catching the ball with another QB can't adjust to the stronger arm. I saw 6 perfectly catchable balls, 3 right on the wr and 3 a little off, that were flat out dropped. That would have brought his Comp % up to a godly 79%. It is on the WR's, if they fix the problem this game is a blowout.

The best thing that can be said about the play of Henne today is he didn't turn the ball over. He still has not developed a touch pass and for someone that is suppose to have such a strong arm. He may be able to throw it hard and a long way but he needs a great deal of work on his accuracy. I still am not sold that he is the future QB of the Dolphins at this point. I certainly am willing to wait and see but he needs to play a whole lot better in coming weeks then he did today if the Dolphins expect to win any more games in the next 6 to 8 weeks. Unfortunately there are no more Bills on the schedule for the next several ball games.

yeah OK. I'm just making this stuff up. I'm not saying Henne sucks, but the guy wasn't accurate today. There were plenty of bad passes that the receivers made good plays on. Period.

    THANK YOU VT

I've also been trying to stress how underrated the Bills secondary is for the last hour. Thanks for bringing the stats into this thread.

Although I do agree Henne needs work, but I feel like he is progressing.

That throw to Fasano which almost scored looked like a nice touch pass to me. Or am I wrong?

thank you!! Even the Bills fans were saying their secondary is their strong suit. If you include 3 of the main drops, Henne goes 24/34 for 250+ yards. Some people just need to suck Dan Marino's @*&# and get it over with already!!!!! Just swallow a big one and move the F on for cryin out loud!

No need to cry and throw a tantrum. You're making it weird...

Henne's ball placement wasn't impressive today. He didn't lead receivers consistently and didn't show great accuracy on other throws, period. He could of hit Hartline going away, and threw it at his feet. It was a bad throw and there were plenty of other mediocre throws too regardless of a 61% competition percentage. But yeah, way to go with that Peyton Manning comment. You totally owned me

Did not read this whole thread so if I repeat others, sorry. Henne had a fine game, but what I noticed about today is that he did not do his receivers a lot of favors re: ball placement especially if you were hoping for some YAC. He also checked down A LOT. Now I couldn't see coverage down field so those may have been good decisions, but it did get a little frustrating to watch.

Am i freaking out about it after a win? of course not. Does he have room for improvement? Absolutely.

I wonder that about an awful lot of people around here today, and in the last week really.

How some can bash the play of a QB who help this team win another game, has a winning record as a starter here, made some good throws, played smart, didn't throw an INT, suffered through some drops by the WR's is beyond me. Sure he missed a shot downfield (which was still a catchable ball that was dropped by the way), and we completed alot of short passes, but hey... that's what the game plan called for. so DEAL WITH IT.

The QB's play was not a problem at all in this game. You guys need to get a grip, let go of Marino (I love the guy too, but come on), and realize that he executed the gameplan, didn't make any big mistakes, and he made plays. No reason to be down on the guy today. Its just ridiculous.

Agree with you 100%. Some ****** made it 1 star. It is a logical thread.
I feel the line had a bit to do with things. The center stepping on Henne, Jerry sucking a bit, etc. It was exactly how I thought and said it would work out.

Ok, because the nice touch pass he threw to Fasano placed to the outside where the defenders couldnt get it that almost was a TD, that led to a TD on the very next play, really didnt happen. I got ya. He can't throw a touch pass, not in this universe anyways. I must have been watching the game in a different one than you.

All his short passes and screens to WR's and RB's arent rockets anymore either. I guess I saw those in another universe too.

I'm the "******" thank you very much. And this thread deserves 1 star. Starting up this negative **** after a big win where our QB went 21/34 for 182 yards. He played smart, he took what the defense gave him, he made big plays when he needed to and he didn't turn over the ball against the #2 pass defense in the NFL last year. There's just no need for all this negativity when we should be happy and positive. The coaches NEED to be upset after a game, they NEED to nitpick. We, as fans, don't need to. And we don't need to bring the mood of the entire message board down just to hate.

At what point, when there are high levels of receiver drops by many recievers from the same QB over two years, do we actually start to ask if it's partially the QB causing some of it?

Today my buddy was pissed that Brandon Marshall dropped the underthrown deep bomb.

I tossed the remote control at his knees and said "catch." without warning. Well, he had to adjust at the last second and dropped it.

"Why did you drop that? You should catch that." I told him.

His touch passes ARE better. I agree.

But he also does something well, then badly, then well, then well, then badly.

If we honestly expect to win a Superbowl we need a consistent QB, not one who oscillates between bad and good.

And I don;t mean he needs to be perfect. Great QB's throw incompletions... but they have excusable extenuating reasons like pass rush pressure, a defender draped on the WR, whatever. When a QB simply effs up with no good excuse, it concerns me MUCH more.

all that said, let's remember that Henne was facing a VERY good Bills secondary and probably instructed not to take chances in the air.

How that includes two bad throws to a wide open Marshall deep I don't know.

    :shifty:

Your his adoptive father so I wouldn't expect you to say anything less.

In all seriousness, the guy had a decent game. But if we lose today you can honestly sit here and say that Chad Henne couldn't of done ANYTHING better to have made it a win? Nothing. Nada. He was awesome as he can be and it would've fallen on everyone else's shoulders.

See, in analyzing his play it isnt that anyone is unhappy at winning today. Its about looking forward and hoping that the guy keeps improving, moving forward, tightening his game up so that we can reach Championship heights sometime before 2025.

Its not about being Marino. Its about being CLEARLY way better than what we've had. Today, Chad Pennington wins this game. Jay Fiedler could've won this game. Its not about being those guys and just scraping by and winning. Because if we make it to the playoffs we've seen first hand what those types of QBs can do and what they can't do. Unfortunately we do not have the Ravens defense of yester year to catapult a Dilfer type to the top. Not saying Henne is Trent but if he doesn't want to end up being one of those guys with just 'tons of potential' he needs to keep working.

Hence, we hope and expect Henne to keep improving his game. That is all. There is no conspiracy here or anything. We want him to succeed.

    Go Dolphins!

Moronic statement? Way to come back with something intelligent.

All I'm saying is this...I don't disagree that Chad Henne should get the nod, but the reason behind why he is playing is due to having a better arm and being able to "make all the throws". This board has harped on what Pennington can not due--even during an 11-5 DIVISION WINNING SEASON. So, why is it now that we aren't allowed to talk about improvements that need to be made on Chad Henne's side? He had two throws--throws that Chad Pennington apparently can't make--a deep flag and a deep ball that were both thrown poorly--with both having chances for large gains and a possible TD.

My reasoning is that if we're going to have a QB manage the offense, why not have a guy that has a history of taking teams to the playoffs, winning, and being successful doing it? Especially when we've seen that QB do it for our franchise recently?

If you don't believe that Chad Henne needs to play better then I respect your opionion, but I won't be the idiot calling you a moron.

So YOU are then saying based upon YOUR insight that Peyton Manning doesnt win this game because HE didnt play in this game.

Joe Montana in his prime doesnt do crap against this Bills defense right?

    Yeah......oooooookkkkkkkkk.

Obviously not, and so the receivers should do better than my firend... but the point remains... that should NOT be a defense for a QB who consistently gives his receivers balls delivered off-time/wrongly-placed/wrongly-paced (too hard or too lobbed) for the situation and so they drop more than usual.

    More.

    Than.

    Usual.

The pattern exists, whether you like it or not.

Hey, maybe it's just that Marshall has crap hands. And Hartline. And Marlon Moore. And EVERYONE. But Henne throws a perfect ball and we should invent a frigging human capable of dealing with the way he chooses to delvier it.

    wtf.

And before you point out the few NICE passes he DID complete with NICE touch... YES... he DOES sometimes throw a catchable ball. And then the other half of the time, he throws a ball recievers seem to have trouble with. I don;t know why, but I *am* more interested in understanding this pattern than soothing myself by focusing on how he *also* completes some.

Is Henne ****ing beyond criticism or something? Are we THAT petrifiied that he could NOT be Christ walking on water. look, he HAS problems. One of them includes the fact that his receivers drop more balls than a Junior high class going through puberty.

Maybe you can wizard me up some theory as to why every WR struggles with this with Henne. Even the sure-handed Davone Bess had a HELL of a time for a few games last year after Henne took over for Pennington. Surely you noticed that.

The intelligence was in the first part of my post. Also, I didn't call you a moron. I called your statement moronic. Big difference. :wink2:

So what was Penny's record before Henne took over last season? Hmmm? I like how you conveniently left that part out.

Penny can beat some lesser quality teams and defenses (as 2008 was FULL of them), but as a whole he is a liability against a quality defense b/c he possesses zero threat of stretching the field or attacking its entirety. SO WHAT if he's "just good enough" to get us to the playoffs..... b/c the last time I checked the Superbowl isn't played in the playoffs. Henne is a franchise QB; as such, you don't halt his development in order to "just make the playoffs" with a 34 year old at QB.

OH yeah I remember the couple of games that Bess had the dropsies...and he got over it. Hartline didn't seem to have much trouble last year, nor did Cammy. Ginn had problems with just about every pass :)

I think he was behind on 2 or 3 throws today...and 4 drops that I'd truly call drops smacked receivers in both hands...

I never said he was beyond critisism. I'd like to see him maybe get the ball out a bit quicker, and I'm hoping that comes with experience.

Guys do have to adjust to different passers at times..I remember Jerry Rice saying it was weird catching passes from Young at first because the ball spun different because he was lefty.

I really don't see it as the epidemic that a lot of folks do here. Fasano seems to have adjusted nicely after struggling with his passes last yer.

Big difference? No. You tried to reply to a post by demeaning what I said and showing disrespect...but go ahead and try to use technicalities...

Tell me where Chad Henne was capable of doing that today?

All I'm saying is this...very simple, so please understand. He has to play better. He has to make those throws to make it seem like he's the better choice, because in terms of caretaker, accuracy, moving the chains, dink/dunks, intermediate/short passing game, leadership, there is no one better than Chad Pennington and you will be hard-pressed to find someone that doesn't agree with that statement.

Considering Montana didn't have a PERECT winning percentage AND considering Manning LOST today despite throwing for 433 yards and 3 TDs, I think you should find another example. Absolutely NO ONE can say that another QB would've won this game for us b/c there is no such thing as a PERFECT QB. They ALL lose. As far as I know, we DID win the game today WITH Henne, and he didn't do anything to jeopardize it for us.

Henne needs to step up or step down, no more excuses. If he can't get it together by game four, Pennington will start game five. both Sparano & Henning have their jobs on the line with no Parcells to bail them out. its time to contend.
