The right moves from the front office.

Dropping down in the draft and getting both Odrick and Misi..They both played well and fast in their first real action..

Drafting Chris Clemons with a 5th round pick, the guy is super quick and likes to mix it up. Talk about flashing, that guy was floatin on the grass..

The release of Grant and Douglas....we didn't need them.

The release of Joey and Jason...We didn't need them.

The rebuilding of the entire linebacker unit, and replaced with young, athletic, fast players...Thank you, Some of us got that entire wish to come true with the starting lineup today..

The discipline that it takes for coach to see Ronnie flash, yet still stick to your rotating system..remember, this is how we treat Ronnie coming off injury, it will benefit us in the long run, and we'll earn respect for Sparano in the locker room....Freshness..ahhhhhh.

The decision not to show anything in the preseason...we were serious about that sh%$..

The decision to hire Mike Nolan.

To sign Marshall and Dansby..they look worth it.

To move MCD up the depth chart.

To move Starks to nose..Odrick to end.

To not trade or release Jason Allen when everyone was talkin junk on him.

To promote Jason Allen over SS24......It needs to stay that way for the time being.....love that projection, a few, very few of us, backed this kid in the offseason because we saw raw trailing and mirror ability...he played so within himself today...love that story.

To scout the CFL and find Cam Wake....he needs his own defensive holding stat... He played a fine overall, linebacking football game..Just like he did in preseason......

Was trading Greg C the right one?...at this point I will stick to what I said when it happened which was no..However, Benny sapp was part of that defense that looked so good out there today, and SS24 looks to be buried a bit so we need Sapp to play well in the nickel.

Speaking of that defense, I laughed when I heard several reports of an allegedly slow defense..lol...moron's...

ummmmmmmmm, was that our defense out there today?...our's?, all our's?..not sure ive seen a defense like that around here....ever...we finally have the athleticism and speed to run this type of defense.....somethin that i've always wanted, my very own bad *** defense to be proud of.

We found our defensive Leader.. Dansby is Just plain good, all over the field good, coach is right, he's so big and rangy....did ya'll see that video of him and Leslie Visser?..he said in the coolest most respectful way, that he is the best overall linebacker in the game, and that he recognizes Ray lewis as the king, but isn't afraid to challenge the throne...now imo, there's only 1 Ray Lewis, but if he's got that kind of presence that can challenge that publicly, without looking like a douche doing so, and earn the respect of his peers... I respect the hell out of that...Iam glad he's the leader of this young fast defense, and our def. captain for the future.

Do I still have to defend my stance that Ronnie Brown needed to get in better shape?...You can tell by that lean face and that pretty smile that that dude is in shape..Ronnie is jacked and spry..

Once again, the lost art of the body catch....Marshall misses that deep ball cause he didn't take the class..use your body to help secure the football..

Henne...He didn't lose the game, he struggled finding confidence, he had too many drops from his receivers, and too many drops on his butt, lol.. and The clock in the practice thing, has not kicked in yet under the lights... he's not releasing the ball in rhythm on his 5 and 7 yard drop's, denying that instinct to throw and holding the ball... now there could be various reason's for that, one being that Marshall and Bess are not great at seperating from their defenders enough for him to feel confident on his release, or, he's taking Pennington's ques so much that he's a bit gunshy early on, or, its just a matter of time for it clicks and this is the process that needs to take place before the gains can be noticable...

I think the tough question that everyone is thinking about is, can he get better at feeling the backside rush ?, or is that more based on instincts, and that you are, what you are at this point....I would love to hear some opinions on that matter..Nabo?..do you think he can get better at feeling the rush?

What I like about the situation is, is that he provided himself a starting ground to a season where he didn't have any big mistakes, I'd like to see david lee work with him some on running and sliding a bit more, and I'd like to see him getting out on the perimeter more, with some boots and rollouts, also his playaction is slackin some, so lets keep grinding, because thats what its likely going to be this season at the QB position, and you know what?, thats fine with me this year, I just want him to play as well as he did last year, without the big mistakes...His last experience in buffalo compared to this one today was improvement, he's got the team ahead of schedule relative to the two prior years. and lets remember, when gameplanning for the bills, you dont attack their only strength {secondary}...Lets give him the time to show that he can improve, cause if he does just that, even by a little, he's progressing nicely.

Were such a young football team..

I like the way the new kick returner handled his business...he just looks comfortable back there handling the ball and directing some traffic..I knew he wasn't a burner comin in, but there were signs that were gonna be improved in this department with this dude..very good signing Irish..

Had Maybin as way overrated when he came out, looks about right..

Dan Carpenter is the only player I will allow to have a belly,

We were in control of that game, on the road, were a team that learns well from its mistakes, and gets better as the season goes on..

Time to worry about Brett Farve..he looked good enough to me to worry..

Wanna see our new D go against that offense on the carpet.

    1. Dansbys the man.
    2. Sapp makes that pick, we would all unanimously agree that it was worth trading Camarillo for him. Smith falling apart on us (which im guessing this coaching staff saw up close long before we did) made the trade a necessity.
    3. I waited all game for Henne to make that back breaking mistake that lost us the game. And it never came. Edwards made two, and just got lucky they were dropped. Henne held it together and notched another win.
    4. Hartline has to improve. WTF.

I'm liking next week's matchup vs the Vikes Deej.

Fast fast defense on turf...there were 11 TFL's yesterday, for me they are as good as sacks.

    DJ,

Good points, I am glad you brought up all the drafts, FA pickups, UFA pickups, and the hidden gems (Wake) that this coaching staff has aquired. Too many people like bringing up the misses in our draft, and yes they have made mistakes in the draft and FA market, but what team doesn't?

Have to give the FO credit for the great talent we have picked up and cutting our losses even though we threw a ton of money at them, when they failed to perform up to expectations.

We've been on the same page here for a long time. Brown plays better when he's lighter & in top condition. He has a bit more quickness and doesn't really lose power.

When he's in the 235-240 range, he's slower and not as athletic. When he's in the 225-230 range, you can see a difference. Same thing with Ricky.

When he is healthy and in shape there are no RB's in the league who own the moniker "Beast" better than Ronnie Brown.

Great write up bro. All very good points. The one thing I would like to add is this.

Despite the defenses 4rth quarter collapses that occurred time and time again last year, yesterday I never got the feeling that the game was to big for our defense or that they were about to collapse and give away the game.

Even though the score didn't show it, miami dominated that game. Our offense got several first downs, ran the ball well and we tried to control the game.

There were 4 plays in particular that could have made a huge impact on the final score that all happened to go the bills way.

    1. The underthrow on the deep pass to Marshall. That's a timing / sync issue that I'm sure Henne and Marshall will figure out.
    2. The Sapp dropped INT. He hangs on it's 7.
    3. The JAllen dropped INT. Again, 7.
    4. The blown coverage by our secondary on not picking up Roscoe Parish on the 4th n 11. The bills hardly tested them all game deep and our DB's crept in too far looking for the underneath dump trying to protect in front of the line, missed a fast player who snuck behind them and Edwards somehow found him. Something he didsn't show he could do all day. That's 7 points for the Bills that probably wouldn't happen very often.

The only call i think that would have resulted in points the other way was the JAllen armbar on the deep sideline throw. If that was called a penalty they surely would have got at least 3 points on that drive.

Oh and their kicker hit a 53 yarder, ours missed a 43 yarder. Dan doesn't miss very often.

This score could have been much much more lopsided, I thought we dominated them. We controlled field position all game, made them go 3 and out a high % of the game and our offense managed to make enough plays to win, and find a way to break the buffalo D's momentum in the 3rd quarter. We didn't fall apart or make that huge backbreaking turnover.

Not bad for week 1 on the road. our guys know they have some timing to work on, or getting better on being comfortable on how the systems work, but i'm sure they are happy with their play for the most part. I know i was.

Cutting up i.e. trying to lose body fat, thus getting lighter is not the same as "getting in to shape". Ronnie has always been in shape, you may be right that he should have been lighter, but you were wrong to imply he was ever out of shape.

I still think Sean Smith will start over Jason Allen before the season ends.

I've liked Jason Allen and never wanted to trade or cut him, but I don't see him being penciled as a long-term starter this year.

I thought McDaniel played well. We got him for a 7th rounder? Absolute rape by the FO. Starks was quietly ver good also. Misi played fast. Loved how he flew around the edge on a few running plays. Wake was also very good. The front got excllent pressure, and forced Edwards to take A LOT of three step drops and get rid of it quickly.

J Allen was very good. Nolan did what a lot of us clamored for which is matchup with a WR wherever he lines up. Also an excellent arm-bar on Evans he got away with. Veteran move there.

Hartline needs to get his *** in gear. Not sure if Henne just doesn't have confidence in him, or he isn't getting separation. But he definitely hasn't helped his cause with the drops. Also disappointed in Marlon Moore. He got a few snaps, but dropped a catchable ball. Gotta come away with that if you want more playing time.

No excuses next week in the dome. Hopefully we continue to play solid D and beat the hell out of old man Favre.

I personally think henne needs to spread the ball a bit more. Seems like he has the habit of locking on to a reciever for a couple of plays then moving on.

He was locking on pretty bad yesterday. Both QB's were actually. The positive for him is after he looks off of the primary read he usually makes his next read pretty quick. Last year, after he looked off the primary read, he was badly telegraphing his throws (See: Eric Weddle interception in San Diego game). But he's gotten better in that regard.

never Shark, midway thru the 1st quarter I never felt threatened, even when they made their little run and caught off us guard in our personnel and went no huddle....Strait up man to man against us. they were completely overmatched.

What a great feeling that is to have..I am not sure that I can tell you that ive ever felt it before, like I did in one game yesterday. my eyes might be playing tricks on me but damn do I love defense.

were big.. were fast, and were athletic..

ok Lucky, that is a good point....he had extra weight on his already in shape body, and now he has less of it..which provides us with some extra quickness and long speed..

To me being in shape as a professional athlete is for you to be at your optimum point, where the tools that you have been giving can perform at their highest level....anything else is unacceptable imo when this is what your supposed to be and how you get paid...anything less to me, their is weakness in the mind that at some point in some way, will be exploited.

thats an interesting call Grid....what makes this tough is that neither of them can play in the slot, so its all or nothing with these 2...should be a great battle as we go and a valuable lesson in Sean Smith's quest to becoming a man...Just look what Jallen had to do to become what he is, and how he went about his business doing so...Thats how you do it son....so be humble about the skillset you were givin at birth, work ur *** off to maximize that skillset, and keep your trap shut until you know you can shut down your opponent.

Eh depends on what you think their optimal point is. I think you are automatically looking at any body fat as "wrong". This is not always the case. Take power lifters for instance a lot of them are big, what would be seen as chunky guys, but they are that size and are at what is an optimal level for their profession. A guy like ronnie I could see him maybe wanting to keep a little weight as his running style is more physical, vs a finesse rb who may want all speed. Another example take boxers. A boxer may cut weight before a fight to get faster. Where as an already fast guy may be willing to lose some speed to be bigger and have a little more leverage.

I understand its a case by case situation when I put criticism out there...I did so last year with ronnie brown because I saw the extra weight he was carrying..The difference of 10 lbs with this guy's frame means a lot towards his speed and quick's.

Have to add that Sean Smith (to my knowledge) has never been a ST contributor. Whereas Allen is a great ST player. That also has to weigh heavily on why Smith didn't even sniff the field Sunday.

Smith has to show he is that much better than someone who can contribute a lot to the ST game and so far has shown he can start at corner.
