Listen, I think the Heat are GOING to win championships. I think the Heat assembled that team fairly and I don't think what LeBron did is comparable to the horrible things that the other athletes on that list.

All I am saying is that the Jets fans are acting like they already won the championship...

...and that Heat fans are doing the same thing.

Are you going to? Yeah, probably a bunch of them. But you haven't yet. That is all I am saying. Quit projecting other people's arguments onto me.

And the 2006 thing is ridiculous. You won a championship four years ago. It is relevant in discussing THIS Heat team.

Agreed.. If Lebron went to the Knicks or the Bulls the sports media would be fawning all over him, and NBA fans (with the exception of Cleveland fans) would be giddy..

Exactly. In fact, the media was openly rooting for LeBron to go to either New York or Chicago, or otherwise stay in Cleveland. LeBron didn’t listen to them and now they’re taking it out on him.

You’ve already been told why this analogy is wrong.

No I haven't. I've been told why the collection of stars in the NBA is different than a collection of stars in the NFL. That was never my argument. Read any of my posts - Miami probably WILL win rings. I've never said they WON'T - I've said THIS team HASN'T. Saying they did in 2006 means nothing. This is 5 years later.

Fans acting like they have already won was my point. Your arguments were only to support the fact that you are acting like they already have.

It's a changing of the guard. The Sports Media isn't used to Miami being a city with top-billing. It's like when you hear those fossil sports writers say "Such and such league needs [Team A] and [Team B] to be good for the league to be successful"

No, it doesn't. College football is just fine when Michigan and Notre Dame suck ***. The NBA was fine when the Celtics ****ing sucked. MLB will not collapse in on itself when the Red Sox fail to make the playoffs. Fans will eventually gravitate towards those other teams.

I understand why the media likes Chicago, New York, LA and Boston so much, I just don't understand why they are so unwilling to accept the successes of teams in other cities. But wouldn't it be the more established franchises the NBA has the better?

That's the main thing I really don't understand with this whole LeBron situation.

Again, you’ve been told why your analogy is wrong.

Jets fans think they’re winning the Super Bowl because they added a washed-up running back, a good but suspended receiver, and two one year wonders at cornerback and receiver.

Heat fans think they’re winning the NBA Finals because the team has the best starting lineup in basketball and incredible depth at every position, and they don’t believe that any other team in the NBA can match that roster over a seven game playoff series.

One fanbase is being delusional based on inflated expectations relative to the team’s level of talent, and the other fanbase is expressing a rational viewpoint based on having three of the top ten players in a sport where you only play five guys at a time. Even you are agreeing that the Heat will win titles, so why is it only Heat fans that are submitting to the same delusion as Jets fans?

You say that your problem with LeBron has to do with him going on TV to leave Cleveland. Fine, but why drag Heat fans into that? Heat fans didn’t convince LeBron to leave, they didn’t convince him to go on ESPN to announce it, and they didn’t convince Chris Bosh to join in and complete the collector’s set.

There’s nothing Jets-like about the Heat fanbase’s reaction to and assessment of its team’s roster. Nothing. But there is something Jets-like in general (and Rex Ryan-like in specific) about your inability to be rational about an unfavorable situation.

“Heat fans are like Jets fans” is the equivalent of “We made that quarterback look like Dan Marino."

There would be no backlash, at all. None. The media would have praised him for his competitiveness. New York and Chicago would still be pissed, but they wouldn't be spewing the type of vitriol they are now. Kind of a "If we can't have him, nobody can" type attitude.

"Nobody" in this case being Cleveland

So as long as you think your team is really good it is ok to act like they've already won titles? We sure as hell didn't say that about the Patriots fans in '07 when they were blowing EVERYONE out. And that was with actual games having been played.

Aslo - I never mentioned having a PROBLEM with him going on TV - I am saying that is why he showed up on the most hated athletes list. He was overexposed and then did something that had a negative reaction in an incredibly high-exposure setting.

I'm not saying whether that reaction was warranted or not, I'm saying it happened in an extremely high-profile situation after having already been over-exposed for months. People were bound to recall that when asked the question for this poll.

Why do you think Terrell Owens and OchoCinco showed up? Did they belong next to Vick? It is due to over-exposure and media coverage.

Please stop trying to make this into me hating on LeBron. I am trying to show how his name showed up with a bunch of guys he didn't belong next to.

    EXACTLY.

The Jet Fan's confidence comes from complete and utter delusion.

The Heat Fan's confidence comes from common sense....to the point where Las Vegas has made them the 8-5 favorite to win it all in a sport where there already is a back to back champion in the Lakers.

You cannot compare being delusional to being realistic.

The Miami Heat already won a title in 2006, so yes, Heat fans get to act like they’ve already won the big one. As for this specific roster, you’ve yet to give a compelling reason why having the 3 of the top ten players in a sport that only plays five players at a time should not result in championship expectations.

And I’m saying that they hate him because he didn’t go to their team. This effect is easily observed by turning on ESPN.

"We should be the #1 seed and win the championship this year."

    Heat fan Optimism:

"We are going to break the Bulls win record."

NOW, An Example of what could be Heat fan delusion:

Sec, we both know you've said those kinds of things since "the decision". In this thread you said -

I'm not even sure what everyone is so upset about. I more or less said Heat fans are being cocky before they've won anything. You are arguing that they are confident but not cocky.

    So you want Wade.

    You want Bosh.

    You want LeBron.

You want to be able to boast about how great they all are together.

AND I have to call you humble about it?

    Why?

Why not just say, "Yeah, we're cocky - because we're way f'in better than any other team out there."

I can't really argue with that. It's true.

And you've already said that at every opportunity except for the one that I said you were being cocky.

Don't make me sit here and call you humble while you tell me how no one else in the league stands a chance at winning.

Then the obligatory "Let's go Heat...let's go heat."

All true..except..we actually don;t sound like morons when we say we are going to win it all since we are favored to do so.

The Jet fans sound like they belong in straight jackets when they talk about their team this year. They were the 3rd favorite in the AFC and the 6th Favorite overall to win it before the season.

    That is just delusion.

If you really think since the "oddsmakers" make you a favorate it becomes a fact, your nuttier than I thought.

So by this logic every fav in CFB and the NFL is FACTUAL better than their opponent? Their fanbase has reason to be smug about the upcoming game and are realist's when believing the game is already in the bag....Nice. :pity:

That has to hold an entire 1 hour hype session, with a week of commercialized leadup just so he can show how badly he wants to screw the fanbase that lived to watch his every step.

Its VERY easy to see how he is in the top 10, but only because of short memories by those that were polled.

IMO Lebron won't be so high on any such poll (taken outside of Cleveland) 5 years from now. By then many other players will have attempted and succeeded in joining other stars and hopefully Lebron and Miami will have some success.

I don't agree that believing that the team that is favored to win it all, will win it all is the same as acting like they already have championships. I think that people accusing Heat fans of that are confused b/c they see Heat fans respond to the obviously hate based comments that the three can't play together by saying that they already have played together so we already know they can. Obviously, there are extreme fans for every team, but on the whole Heat fans are being pretty realistic.

    You have comprehension issues.

    One last time.

Our CONFIDENCE..comes from FACTS..as in we are the favorites to win it all after ONE offseason over a team that has won twice in a row.

THEIR (Jets fans) CONFIDENCE comes from utter delusion since they were the 6th favorite at BEST.

We have a reason to be confident...they don't.

    Comprende?

so I am not the only one that thinks they should win it all. That is where the confidence comes in.

It'll be interesting to see how championships change the perception of LeBron. It hasn't done much for Kobe - and didn't save Big Ben or Tiger - but science has proven that it is impossible not to like Wade, so he may get a boost just from osmosis.

Not what I was saying at all. What he did isn't comparable and I haven't said it was anywhere in this thread.

But he is on that list. That is a fact. So there is a bad opinion of him out there.

All I am asking is if winning will do for him what it did not do for other people on that list.

(I think there is a really interesting discussion to be had about WHY his name shows up with people who obviously have done things much worse than he and WHAT he has to do to get back on the positive side of the public opinion.

I'm not attacking LeBron or the Heat - just think there is an interesting discussion about what happened that hurt his brand and what it will take to get it back.)

Well the entire thing was based around LeBron flirting with other cities and saying this summer was going to be the biggest in NBA history. Let's not pretend like the entire event wasn't orchestrated by him.

But that still isn't my point.

What will it take for everyone to jump back on the bandwagon. Winning didn't help some of the other players on that list - will it help LeBron.
