On around the League- Michael says the next team to change QB will be Miami.
Henne doesn't execute. Missed opportunities. Pennington can win some games and is waiting in the wings.

Henne is 2-0 so far. I understand what he is saying, But maybe Henning is the freakin problem.

I just saw that too...kinda ridiculous if you ask me. Young guy went into 2 hostile environments and didn't turn the ball over a single time. Did he miss some plays? Maybe...but so what...every QB misses a play now and again.

I think it's just stirring stuff up.

We passed the ball like 14 times Sunday.

    Shut the hell up, Lombardi.

I like Lombardi but this is flat out nonsense. Doesn't execute? This tells me he doesn't watch the games, only looks at how many points we score.

    It's entirely possible.

And if he DOESN'T look good enough for the coaches to trust him why the hell WOULD they call more than 14-15 passes?

Some people don't ant to hear anything bad about Henne.

What will you do if he does not end up being our future? Move to a desert island and refuse to believe it? You guys can then live next to the stranded WWII vet who thinks the war is still on. lol.

Let's DISCUSS reality, not AVOID it on these boards.

No one is saying Henne is done, people are saying he has a leash. As well he should.

One touchdown pass in two games. That's not 'conservative', that's frigging poor.

Add that to Parcells rumored concerns at the end of the pre-season and I don;t see why we are mad at Lombardi.

    At all.

And of all the QB's that threw boatloads of INTs this weekend he's saying Henne? What about:
    Flacco
    Garrard
    Favre
    Young
    Campbell
    Anderson

...and that's just off the top of my head...

But no, he's gonna throw out the name of the guy with 62% completions and an 85 rating the first 2 weeks...with 0 turnovers on the road

For the record I think Henne will do fine in the next month if we let him continue to start.

He is simply developing more slowly than some people want.

And I wouldn;t be surprised if some of the pressure to play Penny came from Ross. TOTAL CONJECTURE. Just saying, it wouldn;t surprise me.

Exactly, think about it folks, if you are only going to allow the Qb to throw 15 passes, wouldn't it make more sense to have those passes thrown accurately and to the right Wr?

I'd enjoy anyone telling me that there is no way Pennington would not have played at least as well as Henne has the last two games.

The one thing I don't like is, maybe Sparano is Coaching Scared now that Parcells is stepping away from the Franchise?

Sparano always was conservative but what we've seen in the firs two games is beyond even "3 yards and a cloud of dust" offense.

A week ago Lombardi said people inside the Falcons organization felt lie Ryan was a mistake. The organization bluntly refuted the statement and Ryan ripped apart the Cardinals.

    This week it is Henne.

I'm not sure this is anything more than a professional move by Lombardi. If Henne tears it up next week it will be Flacco or Sanchez.

Or, it could be because 4 of our possessions started inside our own 10 yard line (two on the 1), and with the lead against a tough front 7 there is no reason to try to push the ball down the field when our defense is clearly dominating the game.

And it's not poor...poor would be 1 TD, 3 Picks, and a fumble or two lost.

Why do Ricky and Ronnie get a free pass on their fumbles which directly led to 10 points, but if Henne was asked to do it and threw picks he'd be getting crucified?

I think some people would like to see him benched just so they could say "told ya so".

That's an awful lot of conjecture Pads...
So I'll throw in some of my own

I think, that now the coaches know that the defense is the real deal, and we're playing at home, Henne will be lights out. The leash comes off.
Remember, he carved up the Jets at home last year, and threw for 350 against the Pats, who we play the following week.

I'm not mad at Lombardi. Plenty of people feel like Henne has a great future as the Phins starting Qb. Some people see this differently. About the only thing I have learned over the last few weeks are those opinions aren't going to change either way. Case in point, my reaction of Ughh...was because I am a fan of Chad Henne. BP tends to fall in the other category. No amount of stats from either of us is gonna change that. You can argue until your blue in the face...but the reality is...nothing Lombardi or anyone else says...will change the eventual outcome. So... I'm gonna see how it all plays out. If a change happens, it's not like I'm gonna be upset because Pennington is Qb. I love Chad Pennington. If Henne goes off Sunday and the rest of the year, you'll not hear one complaint from Bp or Shou...they will be ecstatic we have a franchise Qb.

Talking heads will be talking heads, that's their job. Didn't see if this was Lombardi's opinion or if this was something he has a source on...either way, such is the world of the NFL

Henne IS the future of this franchise. He proved it last year, and has led this team to victory twice, on the road in hostile environments..

If the argument is that Pennington gives us the best chance to win this year with his veteran leadership and ability to sustain drives, then perhaps Lombardi has a point....

I don't think anyone can say for certain that Henne gives us a better chance than Pennington to not only push for a playoff drive, but move deep in to the playoffs.. In fact, Pennington took the Jets to an AFC Championship game with far less, took the Phins to 11-5 after a 1-15 season... If you really think about it, the Phins could have finished 13-3 in 2008 if our D didn't fully collapse against the Patriots at home and if Andre Davis doesn't make a miraculous 4th and long catch...

Now think about that for a moment "we started inside our own 10 yd line"

Shouldn't we be able to mount a drive starting at the 5 yd line as easily as starting at the 20?

And yet they went ultra safe..they didn't trust Henne enough to allow him to try and drive the ball, that is why this is not totally off of the wall from Lombardi.

LOL,anything is possible but reality is real.
This team gave Henne the job with no pressures or strings attached. It's his job to lose WHEN Henning and Co. see enough out of him to determine he's not doing the job to their satisfaction.
Now,let me know when that is because he has not been given that chance by the plays that I've watched these last two games.
I want to see what the game plan is for this next game. I'm very curious what their going to call......:shifty:

Speaking for myself, I know BPK and I see this on two different sides, but we both want to see Henne succeed. BPK is always up for discussing it intelligently.

I take the stance that he's impatient, and he probably thinks I'm idealistic :)

Then again, this could be a trend.. .Remember how poorly we started on offense under Sparano last year, with Pennington at the helm? Even against Indy where we held the ball 45 minutes, it was run run run once we were near FG range.

Ask Favre (sack, strip, fumble, defensive TD)

The Vikes have shown to get plenty of pressure with their front 4 in previous games, no reason to take the risk when we hold onto a 1 score lead.

    I gotcha...
I consider myself an enthusiastic Henne fan. In my eyes, he showed enough last year that I believe he's our future.

However, I do think there can be improvement. It's just hard for me to find fault in a guy that just hasn't done anything to warrant a discussion of a benching, IMO.

Oh I agree...I wanted to jump through the TV and choke Ricky on that play.

But I would also trust the 10 year veteran RB to hang onto the ball more than the guy starting his 15th game at QB going against that pass rush.

To be fair he is right. This offense is better suited for Pennington as he has the tools for this offense. Obviously Henne has a bigger arm but its useless if we don't use it. By no means am I saying Henne is bad I'm just pointing out the obvious.

said this before & no one agreed:
game four will be the crucible for Henne, if he fails to step up Pennington will replace him in game five.
    having said that
Henne appears to be, however slowly, stepping up. lets see how the offense develops over the next two games.
very possible that he is already in full stride against the jests... so far, so good

my money is on Henne catching fire this Sunday against the Jets  but we still have Pennington
if things don't work out by game five & its a good position to be in as the season progresses
my only concern is that we will contend in 2010

Actually, you seem to be one of the more level headed ones

Your right about the benching though. He doesn't deserve that.

For me personally, I just want him to keep improving and not stall or go stale, you know. I dont think that CP could've played any better or worse the past few games and I am hoping to see Henne become a better option, not just a younger one.

Because a QB that was a decent game manager (with limitations) but won us a TON of games with a great defense was Jay Fiedler. I would like to find someone that is more than that. I hope that Henne is the man, but if not, then I am not going to cry over moving on instead of staying still like we did when we had Fiedler.

Yep, Henning is playing so conservatively, that Henne's strengths are not being used, so then why not play the Qb whose strengths this offense would highlight?

    -Accurate
    -Avoids Turnovers
    -Doesn't miss opportunities

Sparano's goal is to make the playoffs, he believes and has said one way to do that is to not turn the ball over.

    Thanks! :hi5:

Fiedler was also suspect to that game crippling INT. He would have me convinced for 2 games, the make me crazy for 2.

Henne, as far as I remember, really only had 2 bad games...in Buffalo last year and Tennessee. He had that boneheaded INT in the TB game, but also bounced back and led a fine drive into FG range.

I think it's just the growing pains of a young QB. A lot of us don't want to see them, but it's gonna happen. And as long as there is a veteran with the resume of Penny on the bench, it will always make those growing pains seem that much worse.

Then why wouldn't you also then trust a 12 yr veteran Qb over a first yr starter?

Not saying I agree with it, but I am offering up what is probably behind Lombardi saying such a thing.

Penny can just as easily check down to the Rb or throw a 5 yd pass to Beast as Henne can, only there is less risk of a interception.

Below is a sample of Henne's and Pennington's game numbers, can you tell which ones belong to Henne and which to Penny?

    16 of 22, 174 yards, 0 TD 0 INT, 95.6 rating
    13 of 23, 166 yards, 0 TD 0 INT, 79.3 rating
    23 of 29, 181 yards, 1 TD 0 INT, 104.2 rating
    12 of 19, 156 yards, 2 TD 0 INT, 124.0 rating
    22 of 30, 200 yards, 2 TD 0 INT, 113.2 rating
    21 of 34, 182 yards, 0 TD 0 INT, 75.9 rating
    9 of 15, 114 yards, 1 TD 0 INT, 106.0 rating

The first five are Pennington during wins in the 2008 season, the last two are Henne during the two wins so far in 2010 season. I think the numbers are strikingly similar, and Henne is doing exactly what the coaches want him to do.

The problem there is we've seen that before. When that QB, who is limited by his arm, faces one of those great defenses that field gets compressed. The Ravens did it to us, twice in '08.

Don't get me wrong, I love Penny, but part of being a great coach is adjusting to your talent, right?

The key is making the playoffs in the first place.

And we did not have Beast or Nolan or Wake or Hartline.

And wouldn't adjusting to your talent mean using the Qb who best fits what you do on offense?

Lombardi is usually good but that is kneejerk. A week ago, half the pundits were saying Sanchez was awful, they were questioning his season last year and Henne was a better QB.

He's just an idiot in this column. Period. Sure, Henne hasn't played great but the offense is playing it tight to the vest right now. And, Henne is still learning. He has the arm - he needs to continue to have confidence. Unless he goes on a 1/3 TD/INT ratio tear the next few games and we go 0-4 - I don't think Pennington will become the starter anytime soon.

This "sky is falling" every week after a bad performance - by any player on any team - is just getting tired.

I'm not saying Henne has been great by any means and I do think there are problems - but I also think he still has potential. The O just has to keep at it and come together. I would like to see them get into a better rhythm of play calling and execution (yeah, some say there's no such thing as "rhythm" but there is - just watch the 88 or 89 49ers - when offenses get on a roll, they build confidence, get to the line in a hurry and even the play calling can get hot - there's a lot more to "feel for the game" in playcalling and execution than people think).

C'mon man. You saw Penny's arm this preseason. It is not close to what it was in '08. All he was doing was throwing WR screens and 1 jump ball to the Beast.

I love having him as my backup, but the QB has to be more of a threat than Penny is, and I really believe that they have just been going ultra conservative because they are on the road and didn't want risk anything by give Henne risky situations.

Well Pennington looked like Pennington to me TBH, efficient, got his teammates excited, nice touch on the ball and good timing, he looked 100% to me tbh about it.

Here is what bothers me, and I think bothers the Staff, the last two weeks they had plays meant to take advantage of Henne's rocket arm, on one he did not see Hartline wide open on a post route, and on two or three others, he held the ball and took a sack.

That meant the offense constricted inwards so in essence we have Henne playing a role that Pennington is perfect for, which if that is what it is, why not just have Pennington fill that role?

Imho in a dink and dunk/get the ball out quickly to the open receiver contest, there is no contest, Pennington over Henne 9.5 times out of 10.
