I can't see the videos (crap work computers again!) but tbh I'm a big fan of the Australian A-League and would compare the MLS to that. Yeah it's not comparable to European football but it's certainly more honest. Saw a couple of the pre-season games involving Sp*rs and Man City and thought the standard was pretty good for the most part. I'd welcome seeing a bit more of it. Unfortunately some people are just idiots when it comes to slagging things off without giving it a chance. Us UK/European fans can sympathise when we explain we're NFL fans! The last time the English underestimated the American game we ended up (escaping) with a draw....
U-fu**ing believable! Too much player power in the game. They don't want managers they want babysitters.
Agreed. God forbid the manager put Neymar in his place. I am not a fan of players who think they're bigger than the team. As much as I love his play, Neymar is quickly fitting that mold.. I am pleasantly surprised equally when I see a Briton watch/cheer/root for MLS as much as I am when you watch/cheer/root for NFL. Really awesome stuff. Of course it hurts when someone takes the piss about something you love, obviously, but that happens everywhere. Not losing any sleep over it. Good to hear you're one of the better ones baboo
Liverpool avoid disaster at home to Sunderland... anyone else see that first Liverpool goal? wowsers...
you want to bore yourself to death? ask a sunderland fan why bent didn't get a call-up to the world cup too soon?
What a beautiful goal by Pirlo today! YouTube - AC Milan vs Parma 0-1 - HD Andrea Pirlo Long Range Crazy Goal 1-0 - 02/10/2010
I gotta watch more soccer, mostly European leagues. Been a long time that I followed the Premiership.
Lost to bloody Chelski again. We dominated the majority of the game but possession doesn't win games. We were undone by two bits of brilliance but should have been 2 up by then. Nice to see the gunners use their bodies today and matched Chelski muscle for muscle for the most part. Arsharvin is really beginning to pi55 me off now too. Gave so many bloody balls away.
Liverpool now in the bottom three.. you have to laugh because frankly they deserve to be there. No speed, too narrow, Torres out again... Will Hodgson last the season?
i'm torn about the scousers; i hate liverpool, but i'm a hodgson fan.... so this is bittersweet for me. the season is young though. don't be suprised to see them find a groove at some point and finish just outside the top 4 by year-end. And Drogba is a machine.
This Tuesday (Oct 5th) is the US Open Cup Final at Qwest Field (7 p.m, PST, 4 pm EST). The match is on Fox Soccer Channel. The Open Cup is a contest between all soccer clubs in the US, and this is the championship/final. This time the Seattle Sounders are hosting the Columbus Crew - two MLS heavyweights. If you guys are bored Tuesday night I urge you to watch this. It is the final and the winner gets entrance into the Champions League for our hemisphere. Further, it's at Qwest so you get a feel of how MLS Soccer is in the US. We have something like 30k tickets sold to this event, so I'm expecting great atmosphere. Winner goes home with silverware, and that's almost always exciting!
hope somebody was watching, that was 90 minutes of great footy by two US teams. Set attendance record for Open Cup at ~32k and the entire crowd was singing & chanting the entire time. Holy crap what a match! VICTORIOUS!!!! With that win we earn a berth into the CONCACAF Champion's League, so yeah, kind of a big deal I'm ecstatic this morning!
I didn't see your heads up message as kind of avoiding the site and it's negativity this week...anyhoo...wrong place. Congrats for you bro, any links for highlights?
Haha, no worries, I've been doing the same thing Here's the highlights: http://thecup.us/2010-us-open-cup-f...b-to-repeat-as-open-cup-champions-since-1983/ It was pretty crazy, the announcers had to shout to talk over the crowd after the goals were scored. awesome b/c i was there - you can see me in the video at 1:29 tifo from before the match by our supporter group - nearly took up the entire endzone: and if you're really interested in absurdity, here's a quick clip from the semifinal where our supporter group fogged the field with flares [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JrTkB7TgO1w&feature=player_embedded"]YouTube - Sounders FC: ECS Epic smoke and fire USOC semi-final[/ame] So back to international soccer.... at least Messi is still tearing it up, lol. Meaningless friendlies getting irritating to everyone?
I know the feeling! currently watching 11 Englishmen not give a sh!t! Quality! looks like a Euro game with the flares and atmosphere
speaking of euro games, serbia italy was suspended because of traveling serb ultras [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tO2aA0HtKsE"]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tO2aA0HtKsE[/ame] allegedly they got on the serbian bus before the game and shot a flare at one of the players who sucked last game vs estonia anyway two solid wins for portugal gets them back on track a little. Sounded like England could have used some wilshere. No idea why the games were on fsc plus and not just fsc. Also sounds like Sagna picked something up and is out 3 weeks bummer. Eboue/djourou to fill in.
I hate international weeek, theres always an injury to an Arsenal player! Never really understood the need for riots at football matches?! smh
Champions League back tonight and Eduardo returns to the Emirates. Hope he scores but we win 6-1! He's promised not to celebrate if he does score. It's a shame it didn't pan out for him at Arsenal but that injury affected him more mentally than physically and he couldn't get over that mental hump unfortunately and had to move away from the English game.
Ferguson says Wayne Rooney wants out of United. Will be interesting to see who can actually afford him.
Great result for Arsenal and glad to see Eduardo score. Fantastic response by the Arsenal fans when he scored.
sheeeeet! that wasn't far off! if I'd have gone on paddypower and done that you can guarantee it'll been 0-0! lol
The thing is it will only get worse anywhere else he goes. His problem is he doesn't want to be seen as the guy to carry a team. The only way you can do that if you're Wayne Rooney is to go to a team where there is enough other world-class talent that some pressure comes off your shoulders. I don't think Barca is looking for help, but I could be wrong. Anywhere else he goes he'll have the same problems, if not far worse. I think, anyway.
Realistically, you are looking at 3 or 4 teams that could afford him; Man City (no way would United sell to Rooney to them), Barcelona (were struggling a bit financially during the summer and I dont think would be able to afford him, even if they did want him), Real Madrid (probably the most likley destination for me), AC Milan (dont think they could afford him). Another problem will be that Rooney is currently a shell of his former self since he got injured at the end of last season. One would imagine that will not help Uniteds chances of un-loading for what they want for him. I found his reasoning for leaving very interesting though, which he outlined in his statement yesterday. I think United have big problems.
