Point is still there that a high powered offense needs a better defense and the ability to control the clock.

A lesson they did not learn when the Giants beat them in the SB.

If anything, their defense and running game performance has degraded from the 07 team.

No, the point being made was that a lot of passes either get you injured or it gets you a losing record. That is simply not true any more. There are more outcomes than those 2 possibilities.

    That wasn't me..:D

To me, an offense HAS to be able to pass well enough to threaten the field consistently, but it does not have to be stocked with All Pros at the skill positions to win.

A high powered offense does win games in the regular season, however I can recall the Colts traveling to Foxboro in the snow and being crushed, I can recall the Jets crushing the Chargers High powered offense in the playoff just last season.

When a great offense meets a defense that can slow it down, the team that relies on that offense to win games is in deep trouble as the rest of the team is not up to the task of winning when everything does not go as planned.

That is a part of the reason why I bang the Returner and Special Teams drum so loudly, if the O isn't moving you have to generate yards and field position someway.

"and the more i hear out of dolphins camp that nobody is comfortable right now" ya that's talking about Henne. Way to be Mr.Vague Mort. What the hell does that even mean.

Why don't you take a chance and make a statement that means something Mort. Who the hell is going to complain when their young qb started his second year 2-0. He got the wins, got his D a lead to work with and won both games on the road.

Who in our FO would not be pleased with that? When the Fins trail and Henne needs to throw, then we can make some more realistic conclusions about his ability to put up points, but he hasn't even tried yet. Problem is we haven't trailed yet. So why risk it.

You know who all the Pundits think are incredible right now? The one team in the first two weeks who haven't thrown a TD through the Air. The Steelers. They don't even know who their qb is week to week. And their fine. But our D has been as good as the steelers so far and their qb situation is way worse but guys like mort can't decipher one NFL season to the next. The steelers can win without a qb any given week because of their D but the fins D, who has been lights out, can't win because Henne doesn't throw enough TD's.

It's complete garbage. If Henne keeps winning Parcell's on down will all think the same thing, you are what your record says you are and Henne's 2-0 so far.

Bring on Sanchez, who everyone thinks is magically cured right now, I for one am thrilled we get him after a good week he had against the pats. the only thing Sanchez has proven so far is his incredible inconsistency. He's going to get blown up on Sunday night. Part from our D, Nolan's schemes, our players aggressiveness and a large part because he just can't play well 2 weeks in a row. Meanwhile our guy Henne will be 3-0. And teams who start the year 2-0 make the playoffs 75% of the time. I like where Henne and the phins are sitting right now.

I agree. My only point is we're never winning a SB with Dan Henning as the OC. So let's all enjoy the playoffs this year and hope for this fossil to get canned so our offense can compliment our defense and take us over the hump. Let's all hope he's canned before he ruins Chad Henne's development. Playing not to lose is a loser's mentality and doesn't win meaningful ball games. Playing for FG's is a losers mentality and doesn't win meaningful ball games. How great would it of been to have signed Mike Martz in the offseason? A competent OC who isn't afraid to use his QB's big arm, and is more concerned with scoring points, which wins game btw, than a ball control offense which doesn't win Superbowls in the modern era.

mike martz? for this team? we wouldve been in a three year rebuilding mode all over again. henne would be horrible in a martz offense. we are not a passing team and we will never be a passing team so long as sparano and ireland are running the show. we have built our team to be a running team. you obviously want us to be a colts or texans type of offense. its never gonna happen.

I want us to be a competent offense. Impossible with Henning calling plays as ground and pound/ball control offenses don't win championships.

Defense wins championships. The Giants could run the ball, but they could throw the ball also. They weren't afraid to throw the ball downfield like Henning is. You need to be able to throw the ball.

Well, one is convinced of that, there is no changing your mind I'm sure.

For me, a team has to be able to competently pass the ball, we do not need the greatest show on Turff II, imho we have to get better at what we are already doing.

People to easily forget how dreadful the Dolphins were before Sparano arrived, and how good of a team we are in 2010, anything else is just :words:

You don't need to be the greatest show on turf, but you need to be able to stretch the defense. Dan Henning's dink and dunk offense won't get the job done.

Thanks for raising my curiosity. This is their superbowl years:

    2004 Patriots - 485 passes 524 rushes
    2003 Patriots - 537 passes 473 rushes
    2001 Patriots - 482 passes 473 rushes

    2009 Saints - 544 passes 468 rushes

    2006 Colts - 557 passes 439 rushes

As per usual, Manning is the anamoly.

Brees pass attempts in 2009 were down from 636 and 652 the two prior non-playoff years.

Here is the rest of Brady's recent years:
    2009 - 592 pass attempts
    2008 - Injured
    2007 - 586 passes 451 rushes
    2006 - 527 pass attempts 499 rushes
    2005 - 564 pass attempts 439 rushes

The funny thing about these statistics is that they are all spread teams. We are not a spread team. But if these statistics prove one thing to me it is that you want the spread team to throw the ball. The more they throw, the less success they will have........no matter how much the NFL changes rules in their favor.

Because Dan Henning is an incompetent boob trying to turn a gun slinger into a game manager. He's basically admitted as such with some of him comments recently. He wants to limit interceptions and only take what the defense gives them. Losers mentality. Competent OC's force the defense to adjust to them. Competent OC's step on the opposing teams throats until they've built up a big lead. Not Henning. He's trying to run the clock out with a 7 point lead in the 3rd quarter... 27 rushes against the best run defense in the NFL and only 17 passes against a banged up, weak secondary. Thank god for our defense because we lose this game handily last year.

I agree that it can work with a great defense. But you need to be able to throw the ball and pick up chunk yardage. The Bucs had the #1 defense in the NFL when they won the SB in 2002, but Brad Johnson threw 22 TD's and only 6 picks. The Ravens had the #1 defense when they won in 2000, and they were the last true ball control offense to win a SB. The passing game was bad to say the least. The Giants had the #8 defense, a great run offense, but had the ability to throw the ball also.

I'm not sure we'll be able to throw the ball when we need to. Henning's too conservative. He'll devise an excellent gameplan 4-5 times a year, but other than that, the defense is going to need to carry us.

And someone who can make plays in the passing game when you have to have them.

Every Giants team had one go to guy, whether Mark Bavarro or Mark Ingram.

Besides, why all the crying when we all saw Henne throw for 300+ yds without Beast?

Sometimes I think Dolphins fans just prefer to ***** about what they perceive is going wrong and just ignore what is going right.

Think about, there are almost 4 months to go in the season why ledge climb now?

Feel free to tell me what was incorrect about that post. To say Henning doesn't play for FG's is being a homer. As is saying he doesn't try to step on the throats of the other team. Against the Bills great secondary and swirling winds, he throws the ball 34 times, runs it 36 times against a banged up, weak front 7. That's the game where the gameplan should be ground and pound. Not against the best run defense in the league, with a banged up, weak secondary, in a dome. Laughable gameplans, both of them. And of course, Henning has no idea what momentum or rhythm is. He sure does love to ruin drives with Wildcat, end arounds to Bess, screens to Fasano, HB passes from Ricky Williams etc. He sure does love to hand the ball off to Ricky Williams when he's been terrible, and Brown has been excellent. The game has clearly passed Henning by, and he's a huge liablity at this point. Here's hoping the defense doesn't fizzle thanks to being on the field all game with Henning's shoddy playcalling.

I'm sure it has. Except when you look at the Superbowl winners and see that only 1 team the last decade has won without being able to throw the ball, and that was the Ravens in 2000 with one of the best defenses of all time.

That is a ridiculous statement. It is one of the most ridiculous statements I have ever read.

I do agree that end-around to Bess is a horrible call, however what about all the times that the wildcat has worked or that one time when Miami scored on a screen to Fasano?

The only problem with Miami is lack of execution.

The Giants proved it a few years back. This year will prove it again. The passing teams Packers, Colts, Saints, Patriots vs The running teams Steelers, Dolphins, Ravens, Titans, 49ers vs the dual threat teams Cowboys, Texans, Falcons, Chargers, Bengals. We'll see who wins it all

I'm talking specifically about the Wildcat play in the Vikings game to begin the 3rd quarter. We're running the ball down the Vikings throat in the conventional offense. Get in their territory, he comes the wildcat, drive dies. I don't recall a Fasano screen for a TE. Oh, here's another one. 2nd quarter (IIRC) of the Vikings game, Henne gets sacked, puts us out of FG range. We run the ball on 2nd and 3rd down and punt.

As for the playing for FG comment, very obvious when you watch the games. Henning cares more about settling for 3 points than trying for 7. Fairly obvious with all the runs, and dink and dunk passes in front of the 1st down marker on 3rd downs when we're in FG range.

i agree. we have marshall so he's our bailout need a 3rd down receiver. we have decent complimentary targets to go with him so we have the pieces in place. when teams sell out to stop the run we will have to go up top and we will when we need to. its only week 2. our aces are still up our sleeves. the patriots and jets will see a couple of those aces drop. henning can air it out if he feels its necessary. i think their thinking is it isnt necessary yet and our record would seem to validate that thinking so far

Dan Henning will give us 4-5 great gameplans a year. Let's hope it comes vs. the Jets and Pats like it did last year where he was able to create excellent gameplans in the 1st Jets game and 2nd Patriots game.

I think you need to re-watch Eli Manning in the playoffs, and especially in that last drive of SB42.

The Saints already won it all; the Steelers are a passing team and have won two Super Bowls in this decade with the pass; the Titans haven’t done anything; the 49ers aren’t going anywhere; the Texans won’t win a thing until their pass defense improves; the Bengals are just inept in all phases of their offensive game.

The correct way to put it is the exact opposite.

If a team is a passing oriented team, in almost every single year, they must be able to run the ball to win the SB.

The last decade? The Steelers twice, Tampa Bay once, Baltimore once and even the Patriots (their 3rd SB win) were running based teams.

Since the Ravens won the SB in 2000 only two SB winners since then have passed for more yards than the Dan Henning/Chad Pennington led, 2008 Miami Dolphins. The Saints and the Colts...

    So is it Henning?

seriously what is your argument. a team with sumo wrestlers for receivers cant win. i agree. the giants were a run first team that used play action primarily. if your argument is you need to be able to throw occasionally i dont think anyone disagrees with that but you need to run occasionally too. your argument seems to be that if you suck you cant win. i think you'll find very few people who disagree

I remember the screen to Fasano going for a touchdown. It was a great play.

So by your logic, when the offense scores a touchdown, then they did it by accident.

What about the times when Miami is running the ball down the throat of the other team, and then they get stuffed in a conventional run or the times when they wildcat works in that situation? Both happen.

Dink and dunk passes in front of the 1st down is poor execution. Poor route running + poor decision making or not enough time to run. No coach calls a 4 yard route when you need 6 yards.
